!!Insidious: The Red Door
* While it gets better, the revelation that the past ten years have not ''not'' been good for Josh nor Dalton. The once-happy family has disintegrated, leaving Josh feeling so isolated that he's nearly in tears after a fight with his son, desperate to connect and utterly unable to do so.
* While it was nominally a good idea at the time, the revelation that the memory-wipe at the end of the second movie has only caused problems for the Lambert family. Renai was deeply strained by the trauma of her (possessed at the time) husband attacking her family and the isolation of keeping it a secret. Josh is having memory issues due to the hypnotism, and has grown distant and isolated from his loved ones, just as his father did. Dalton can't remember a full year of his life, and is haunted by the faintest hints of a deeply traumatic past. It's a surprisingly realistic outcome for a horror series, which only makes it more upsetting to watch.

** Ditto with Josh. Halfway through the film, he's a SupernaturalProofFather, but when he sees Dalton's drawings about "flying" (which is actually his powers), Josh breaks down, and tells Renai he'll go along with Elise's plan. Never once has [[DeconstructedTrope deconstructing the trope]] worked so well.
