** It gets even more heart-rending when Natsuki actually ''does'' end her abusive relationship. Not one of those Hollywood ones where they freak out and scream, but a ''real'' panic attack with her reduced to BrokenTears, pleading with Yuri to help her and feeling the urge to commit self-harm. Yet again, it's a realistic portrayal of a very, very real problem. While this does take a [[SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoments heartwarming]] turn when Yuri helps to keep Natsuki grounded, it's still a painful scene to watch, ''especially'' for those who have a history of panic attacks or abuse.

** Natsuki's father being abusive can be somewhat mitigated when noting that this is largely present in the rewritten Act 2 and not in the original scripting. If anything, the worst thing about her father is that he is evidently a stern and somewhat absent figure who isn't helping her insecurity complex. Natsuki is worried about him finding out about her "childish" manga habit and is uncomfortable about not being seen to eat plenty when he cooks.

His reaction of a near literal HeroicBSOD coupled with the progressively glitched and then immediately depressive song that plays definitely doesn't do anything to lighten the mood, either. She talks to Yuri about how her friends treat her rather badly, and yet despite that, she has a lot of history with them and can't bring herself to end the relationship she has with them. The anxiety and pain she feels and discusses with Yuri is one of the best examples of how the game frequently shows incredibly accurate portrayals of delicate situations, especially with how Natsuki tends to blame herself for the way the abuse carries on.

** The increasing hostility in Natsuki and Yuri's relationship is even more painful to watch after playing through the Side Stories in Plus, which dedicates a significant amount of time to the two girls getting past their initial poor first impressions of each other and growing to a mutual understanding and budding friendship. The player gets to watch the two of them gradually bond, look forward to each other's company, and spend time together reading during their lunch breaks. And all the while, you know full well that in the base game, the two of them will just continue to tear each other down more and more aggressively, until Yuri finally kills herself in a fit of madness.

* The VisualNovel/DokiDokiRainclouds mod re-tells the game's first act... from Sayori's point of view. It's about as soul-crushing as it seems. It really puts some perspective on her depression and suicidal ideation, and how hurt she was [[InnocentlyInsensitive by the main character's actions]]. It ends [[ForegoneConclusion the way it does in canon]].
* A minor meta-example, but [[https://www.youtube.com/user/EricVanWilderman Eric van Wilderman's]] horrified, yet rather [[LargeHam hammy]], BigNo when [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5DK0nWEJKE&t=1302 Yuri stabs herself.]]
* Lesser know Youtuber LetsPlay/BryanCroiDragon's reaction to Yuri's suicide is far more subdued but no less of a tearjerker. He doesn't scream, he just stares in shock and when all is over all he can say with a sad tone is Yuri's name.
* Despite starting with [[HopeSpot interrupting Sayori's suicide and saving Natsuki from her awful home life]], the ''Doki Doki Exit Music'' mod ends on an arguably even worse ending than the original game. Natsuki begins living with MC and [[LivingEmotionalCrutch becomes emotionally dependent on him]], Sayori distances herself [[GreenEyedMonster out of jealously of the two]], Monika frantically tries to [[TheAtoner make amends after lashing out at the club for missing the festival]], and Yuri becomes an even bigger psychopathic Yandere after being spurred on my Monika's comments. It all culminates with Yuri [[MoralEventHorizon convincing Natsuki that MC is cheating on her]], ultimately leading to [[DrivenToSuicide Natsuki hanging herself after her abusive father finds her out]]. Yuri [[FaceHeelTurn officially turns on the remaining members]] with her fate left unknown, MC [[DrivenToSuicide drowns himself out of grief over Natsuki]] with Monika only able to watch helplessly, and Sayori having to live with the knowledge that her jealously prevented her from potentially stopping the death of two of her best friends. [[DownerEnding DAMN.]]
** Another thing to point out is how ''bleak'' the mod is: Aside from the loving moments between MC and Natsuki, any time MC is with other characters, the tone changes to hell and back. Sayori becomes crass and incredibly rude (to the point where she even ''tells MC to break up with Natsuki because [[ItsAllAboutMe she loved him first]]'', Yuri goes full blown stalker and even ''attempts to push herself onto him'' and while Monika does turn back around after getting an understanding of Natsuki and MC's relationship, she ''barely'' helps until it's too late.
** One thing to note as well is that unlike Sayori who has to live with the guilt of causing MC and Natsuki's deaths, Yuri [[KarmaHoudini doesn't get ANY karma what so ever]], with the exception of being slapped hard by Monika when she '''[[MoralEventHorizon still feels the need to take advantage of MC's broken mental state]]'''. Even then, Yuri ''gets away'' with leading Natsuki to her suicide, since if it hadn't been for her lying to Natsuki, it wouldn't have led to her suicide. ''Double DAMN.''

The subject of depression is one you'd hardly expect to come up in a perfectly normal romance game at all, much less in a realistic and frank discussion.
