* IBrokeANail: When a small team of different Supergirl incarnations break Superman out of the Source Wall in ''ComicBook/SupermanBatman #25'', Comicbook/PowerGirl mutters this, then quickly adds she was kidding.

* IHaveNoSon: Invoked in story arc ''Comicbook/NewKrypton''. When Superman and his aunt Alura are on the brink of fighting, Supergirl tries to calm her mother down... but Alura threatens to disown her daughter if Kara doesn't stand with her.

** ''ComicBook/ElseworldsFinestSupergirlAndBatgirl'': ''Comicbook/LexLuthor'' kissed Barbara Gordon's hand during a ceremony. As soon as he turned around, Barbara wiped her hand, disgusted.

* ImpactSilhouette: In ''Comicbook/ActionComics'' issue #308, Supergirl takes care of a little girl who has gained powers for a short while. At a point, the child -Candy- trips over a toy and plunges through the wall of the house, leaving a Candy-shaped hole.

* ImTakingHerHomeWithMe: Kara does this in ''Comicbook/ActionComics'' issue #308 when she finds a missing little girl and decides to take her home with her until she finds her parents.

** Post-Crisis Kara also used her SuperSpeed to change clothes instantly. In ''Comicbook/{{Batgirl 2009}}'' she comes to visit her friend Stephanie Brown -alias Comicbook/{{Batgirl}} III- and does this to avoid to be caught by Steph's mother.

** Superman and his cousin Comicbook/{{Supergirl}} had some of this in the Silver Age. According several long-time Superman and Supergirl fans, "There is a LOT of subtext to the olde SG stories if you know where to look".

In context, he wants Kara to put on her civilian clothes because he is going to give her a costume-compressing device and he needs to show her how it works. Taken out of context... well...

** In ''Comicbook/{{Superboy}}'' #80, Kara travels to the past to meet Superboy, and Clark looks a tad smitten of his cousin. ** In ''Many Happy Returns'', Kara and Comicbook/{{Superboy}} -Superman's clone- meet and are eyeing each other right away. Kara is blatantly smitten with him.

** In the ''Comicbook/RedDaughterOfKrypton'' story arc, [[Franchise/GreenLantern Red Lanterns]] Rankorr -an human- and Bleez -a winged, blue-skinned alien-.

* ItsNotYouItsMyEnemies: Non-romantic variant. When Superman first met Kara back in the Silver Age, she wanted to live with him, but he sent her to an orphanage because he was afraid that his enemies would target her if they found out about his cousin (he was proved right in the Post-Crisis universe: as soon as Kara arrived on Earth, people began attacking her and Comicbook/{{Darkseid}} kidnapped her).

** In the ''Comicbook/NewKrypton'' storyline, post-Crisis Supergirl has a feud with Reactron after he kills her father. It doesn't end well, and he eventually blows up her mother and almost every surviving member of her race. She also takes her enmity with Doomsday this way, knowing that he once killed her cousin.

** Among the first Supergirl's boyfriends were a human, a green-skinned Coluan, an Atlantean merboy, and, er, her horse Comet. Well, he wasn't ''really'' a horse and he was in human form at the time, admittedly, but there was still a kind-of relationship between them after he was turned back; it probably helped that he retained most of his intelligence.

* JustBeforeTheEnd: When Argo City's population was getting killed by Kryptonite radiation, Zor-El and Allura [[ComicBook/TheSupergirlFromKrypton managed to build a single-passenger rocket]] and send their daughter to Earth, and then they set up a disaster headquarters -as seen in ''ComicBook/TheUntoldStoryOfArgoCity''-. Unfortunately, there was no way to cure the Kryptonite poisoning or escape the space city, so all they could do was to monitor the plague, knowing Argo and its citizens have weeks left, at best.

* IBrokeANail: When a small team of different Supergirl incarnations break Superman out of the Source Wall in ''Comicbook/SupermanBatman #25'', Comicbook/PowerGirl mutters this, then quickly adds she was kidding.

** In a Creator/PeterDavid's issue, the demon Comicbook/{{Etrigan}} broke off a brawl with Linda, dropped to his knees, popped the question and kissed her hand. Jason Blood probably summed the situation up best, when he said: "This is wrong on so many levels, I don't even know where to start."

** In ''ComicBook/TheSupergirlFromKrypton'', Superman and Wonder Woman argue because Clark wants to take his cousin back home whereas Diana argues that she must remain in Themyscira. Kara breaks in to remind them that she is standing there.

** Being a shapeshifter, the Post-Crisis Matrix version of Supergirl could transform from regular clothes into her Supergirl uniform by altering her clothes telekinetically.

She isn't stronger than Superman, faster than Flash, smarter than Batman, better fighter than Wonder Woman and she has not as many powers as Martian Manhunter... but she ''is'' one of the strongest, fastest and toughest heroes, she ''has'' been trained by Batman and Wonder Woman and is intelligente and resorceful, besides having several useful complementary powers such as flight and super-senses. Her combination of raw power, training, cleverness, determination and hot-bloodness makes her one of the most powerful heroes of the planet.

* IdenticalStranger: Supergirl's first nemesis, Lesla-Lar was identical to Kara; to the point Lesla posed as Supergirl for several days and neither Superman nor Supergirl's adoptive parents suspected anything. Later Lesla became -more- unhinged and convinced herself that she and Supergirl were twins. In ''SupermanFamily'' #206 Supergirl replied it was impossible they were sisters and their similarity was due to some kind of "cosmic coincidence".

* IJustWantToBeNormal: Pre-Crisis Supergirl often expressed this desire during the Bronze Age. Unlike her cousin, Kara remembers having a normal life back on Argo City, when she was a normal teenager. After growing into adulthood, she was torn between her desire to have the life of a normal woman and the responsibilities that come with her powers. * ILLKILLYOU: In ''Adventure Comics'' #420, Supergirl sees an alien world's protector getting killed and his lands being ravaged by an invading army. Already angry and upset, Kara is hit by an emotion-altering mental attack and utterly loses it:

** In ''Superman vol 1 #149'', Supergirl breaks into the Luthor's lair while he and other criminals are celebrating her cousin's death. ** In ''ComicBook/AdventureComics'' #418, Supergirl is taking down a criminal gang when the leader -and old Batman's enemy- sics a green, flame-spewing dragon on her.
** Similarly, in ''ComicBook/SupermanFamily'' #174 the baddie-of-the-issue summons a sea dragon to keep Kara busy as he carries his plans forward. The purple dragon comes out of nowhere, and after a brief but awesome tussle, it retreats and is never seen again.

* JailBait:
** Pre-Crisis Supergirl was around fifteen when she crash-landed on Earth. She eventually grew up, but a quite infamous issue -which was promptly swept under the rug- has her adult [[Franchise/{{Superman}} cousin]] regretting that marrying his teen cousin isn't legal.
** Post-Crisis Kara. During [[DorkAge an infamous early run]], several older boys constantly hit on her, even though she is fifteen.
** In the post-Flashpoint universe, an older super-villain hits on Supergirl. In reaction she hits him, shouting "I'm sixteen, you creep!"

* IWasBeatenByAGirl: In ''Comicbook/{{Superboy}}'' #80, Supergirl time-travels to the past to meet her teen cousin. Superboy is happy to have someone to play with, but when his cousin wins their first game he's surprised that "a mere girl" can best him. Kara states he'll have to get used to the idea that a Supergirl can be a match for him.

** Kara also did this in ''Adventure Comics'' issue #424.

* TheJailBaitWait: After ''Comicbook/InfiniteCrisis'', teenage Kara started a short-lived, flirtatious relationship with twenty-something AntiVillain Captain Boomerang, with no [[InvokedTrope invocation]] in sight. Then suddenly enforced with a vengeance when, after a JourneyToTheCenterOfTheMind storyline had kept her away for a few months, Boomer, Beast Boy and every other Y-chromosome who so much as glanced at her suddenly went out of their way to confirm that [[FalseReassurance they had no intention of acting upon their attraction to this stunningly hot super-babe]]. Must have been a few letters. That or her cousin let everyone know [[MySisterIsOffLimits she was off limits]], and nobody argues with the Man Of Steel.

* JumpingOnAGrenade: In ''ComicBook/GothamCityGarage'', Kara Gordon saves Jason Todd's life by throwing herself on top of a bomb. Her body bore the brunt of the blast, but since it was a ''solar-powered'' bomb she came out unscathed (not that a normal bomb would damage her either, but she didn't know about her invulnerability in the time).

** When DC brought Kara Zor-El back after her death in the Crisis, it was rumoured that she was more powerful than Superman. Then Superman proved that his cousin was not more powerful. She ''seemed'' more powerful because she hadn't learned yet how to hold back, unlike him, who is always holding back.

* IHatePastMe:
** In the Post-Crisis universe, Karen and Kara don't get along well because Kara was being written like a jerk in the first issues of her book. Kara apologized to Karen after getting her head together, but Karen turned her down.
** In ''Supergirl Vol 6 #20'', Power Girl gets mad with the eponymous heroine because Kara called her "old". Supergirl apologizes, explaining she didn't meant anything by it, but she is prone to say stupid things when she gets upset. Power Girl admits that she used to be like that, too.

** In ''Comicbook/TheSupergirlFromKrypton'', {{Flight}} is the first super-power she tests once she arrives on Earth.
