* This episode is one giant TakeThat to American Politics: nothing can get done because everyone is arguing about whether things should go in the left or right direction.

* There's a ShoutOut to ''Film/TheEmpireStrikesBack'' when Baljeet has to hide in the corpse of a fly to keep himself warm.

* After Phineas talks about girls liking sugar, spice and everything nice. Baljeet protests that is what they are made out of and he doesn't want to build one, which is a clear ''WesternAnimation/ThePowerpuffGirls'' shout out.

* When trying to decide on a present for Jeremy, Stacy recalls that he likes camping and outdoors activities. She then mimes using a bow and arrow and invokes the story about William Tell, declaring, "Take That, apple on kid's head!"

* The title brings to mind ''Film/IndianaJonesAndTheTempleOfDoom''.

* It's possible that "the Ferbalistic Groovatron 9000" is a ShoutOut to the Future trilogy of ''VideoGame/RatchetAndClank'', which features a recurring device/weapon called the Groovitron. Coincidentally, the "Otherdimensionator" comes close to sharing a name with ''[[VideoGame/RatchetAndClankFutureToolsOfDestruction Tools of Destruction's]]'' Dimensionator.

* Phineas invokes the "Friends, Romans, Countrymen" to the group assembled in his yard: "Friends, Bullies, [[MyFriendsAndZoidberg Irving]]".

* Unsure if this one is intentional or not, Buford's reaction to a holographic Phineas showing up is 'What trickery is this!?". ''WesternAnimation/SamuraiJack'' said the exact same line before he was flung into the future.

In the preview Buford even calls his costume a ''daff''odil, despite looking nothing like one. Could be coincidence.
