* Mr. Champloo's OnTheNext segment places Mao as the lead character of a cooking anime similar to ''Manga/ChuukaIchiban''. As an added bonus, the main character of ''Manga/ChuukaIchiban'' is also named [[NamesTheSame Mao]].

* King Misdor's "King Cannon" attack is a parody of Gilgamesh's "Gate of Babylon" from ''VisualNovel/FateStayNight''.

* The Mecha Girl's "Neck Beam" has her fire the [[Anime/CodeGeass the geass sigil]] as a BeamWeapon.

* Kurtis's design is clearly based on Cyborg 002 from ''Manga/{{Cyborg 009}}'', as is the item "Accelerator," a set of teeth that makes you move faster (009's ability to shift into BulletTime was activated by a switch in his mouth).

* Accelerator: ("Why teeth?") is a reference to ''Manga/{{Cyborg 009}}''--the title cyborg entered "Acceleration Mode" by pressing a button on one of his back teeth.

* One of the random names for females is [[Franchise/{{HarryPotter}} Hermoine]]. Another randomized female name that pops up in the [[UpdatedRerelease PSP remake]] is [[Franchise/CodeGeass Euphemia]]. There is also [[Franchise/LyricalNanoha Nanoha]].

* The consumable Pizza item is a double reference: Eaten by [[TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles turtle]] and [[Anime/SamuraiPizzaCats cat]] martial artists alike.

* Many of the random names are references to other media. [[Music/KanyeWest Kanaya West]], [[VideoGame/HyperdimensionNeptunia Niptoonia]], [[Creator/NicolasCage Nicolas Gage]], [[Manga/{{Astroboy}} Astrogirl]], [[Creator/CharlieSheen Tigerblood]], [[Franchise/{{Pokemon}} Churrozard]]... and that's not even counting names that might be considered common enough to not be direct references, like [[Franchise/MetalGear Snake]], [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyVII Tifa]] and [[Franchise/TheLegendOfZelda Epona]].

That being said, they have completely different personalities; Magnus the Red is a GeniusBruiser and a WarriorPoet, while Red Magnus is a musclehead through and through.

* The Sledgehammer's description claims that it is found in [[Film/{{Sledgehammer}} cheesy action movies]].
