* {{Irony}}: The most moral characters are actually the avowed homosexuals such as Batchi, Althea, Jade, and Paul, most notably in a scene where Oscar and his father are lamenting that the prevalence of gay and lesbian women coming out added to the increase of immoral people in the world. This coming from the people who would have their child beaten up for the sake of honour, leaving them to suffer in poverty for disobedience and other actions that others would only rather fantasise about and it even leaves them unsettled and loads more horrific if one were to imagine it done to their own family and people they know.

* PositiveDiscrimination: The most moral characters are actually the avowed homosexuals such as Batchi, Althea, Jade, and Paul in spite of the antagonists's claim that they are evil. Most of their struggles stem from self-righteous contempt from bigots and the prejudiced social milieu.

* KarmaHoudini: Tommy's acts [[spoiler: certainly warrant multiple counts of arrest and court cases and if put to trial can ultimately spend the remaining years of his old age in prison but is never punished for his actions. He's still wealthy, lives in comfort, and is fully capable of committing the same atrocities to any hapless woman he'll get in a relationship with.]]

** Althea dodged airport security and ran through the terminal while still healing from her injuries to thwart Oscar's attempt to Jade being sent to China for good. The episode is aptly named [[IdiosyncraticEpisodeNaming #TRMDRescue]].

* BiTheWay: Wila is a homoromantic bisexual.

* PerfectlyArrangedMarriage: Subverted. At first, it appears that Jade's grandmother was fine with marrying her husband but it was not until Jade learned that she is not actually in love with him and that she regrets not being married for it although Jade reminds her that she's already married to John Tanchingco, her grandfather. Granted that her grandmother is already afflicted with Alzheimer's, it doesn't make her words less true when she said that their duty to the family is stronger and more important than to be with the person they truly love.
** [[spoiler: Double Subverted with Cecilia Tanchingco. She realised that she grew to love her husband after he died. She visited her FirstLove and realised that she no longer has feelings for him.]]

** When David hears the full extent on just how much Jade is deeply in love with Althea. After listening to her impassioned confession which barely scratches the surface of the full extent of her love, David understands that he can never achieve even a fraction of what Althea makes her feel. Jade emphasised that what Althea does is borne out of genuine love, caring, understanding, and for appreciating Jade for who she is and not as a scion of an upper class family.

** Marinelle has Batchi and Abby as her parents with the former taking on the father figure for their child. [[spoiler: Subverted. After being overwhelmed and unable to bear the discrimination that she has a lesbian parent, Marinelle welcomed her father's attempts to reconnect with her and Abby. They chose to go back to him which breaks Batchi's heart but still she is unwavering in her support for the child.]]

** Like [[spoiler: her father, Althea is a loving parent to Miggy.]]

** Marinelle has Batchi and Abby as her parents with the former taking on the father figure for their child. [[Subverted. After being overwhelmed and unable to bear the discrimination that she has a lesbian parent, Marinelle welcomed her father's attempts to reconnect with her and Abby. They chose to go back to him which breaks Batchi's heart but still she is unwavering in her support for the child.]]

** Possibly Gabriel, since he declared that he will accept his children even if they are gay for his only concern is for them to be happy.

* BuryYourGays: [[spoiler: Paul chose to end his life rather than to live a life of being married to a person whom he doesn't love and overcome with guilt for not reciprocating her affections. He also used this to serve as a cautionary tale for Jade to live her life away from her family and also to his parents on what is ought to happen when they discriminate their gay children.]]

* BirdsOfAFeather: Jade and Althea may come from different backgrounds that while Althea works to earn a living and Jade practically never has to learn a skill to earn her own money since her family is among the wealthiest, they both have mutual admiration for each other. Althea is actually quite envious of Jade's luxury and doesn't resent her for it, while Jade admires Althea's independence and self-assurance. They practically have the same perspective on the concept of soulmates and LoveAtFirstSight.

* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: David [[spoiler: filed for annulment so that Jade can pursue Althea without any impediments.]]

* ManlyTears: Happens multiple times in the show.

** When David hears the full extent on just how much Jade is deeply in love with Althea.
