* TheGroup: Known as "The House" in this show. "The Pit Boss", "The Dealer", and "The Player" act as the representatives of a worldwide cabal of rich and powerful people, attempting to stop crime as the financial backers gamble on the possible outcomes for extraordinary sums of money. The people involved wield so much power that keeping law enforcement from interfering in the game is as simple as a call over the police radio.

* WhamEpisode: "Pilot" reveals that Cassandra knows Ginny from way back before she worked for Mr. Johnson.

** "The House" can be considered as one to "The Cabal" from The Blacklist and to "The Patriots" from the Metal Gear series. Both organizations have members who come from influential and powerful circles worldwide.

* PoliceAreUseless: Justified. The House has enough leeway to make them back off so that "The Player" can do his job.

* AmicableExes: Alex and Ginny continue to get along even after their divorce, to the point where Alex helps out around her house like a husband would (they also occasionally sleep together). They even decide to get back together just before she's killed.

* DarkAndTroubledPast: Alex used to be an FBI agent until he went rogue and started hunting and killing terrorists instead of apprehending them. He says that he'd have gone over the edge if he hadn't met Ginny.

* FriendOnTheForce: Cal is Alex's friend and contact in the Las Vegas Police Department. Their relationship becomes strained after Ginny's death and Cal discovering Alex's past.

* AncientConspiracy: According to Cassandra, the mega-rich gamblers had tapped into human communications since long-distance communications started that they were able to get into law enforcement/intelligence database to get intelligence over the years. The creation of ''the Game'' was deemed necessary as a way for them to relieve their boredom and blow off steam, otherwise they would indulge (more) in diversions such as assassinating world leaders or starting wars.

* ComicallyMissingThePoint: After Alex stops an attempt on his life, Mr. Ragiv is more concerned with the fact that Alex used a ''very'' expensive bottle of wine as a melee weapon and spilled its contents in the process.
