* HardWorkMontage: A pretty neat one in Episode 3 [[https://youtu.be/ex0NBDU_yMg?t=5s involving the Gang planing and preparing]] for the Opening Day fundraiser to the sounds of "For Once In My Life" by StevieWonder (or rather, a soundalike singing it) which is humorously interspersed with Eddie's crappy work day (which at this moment, involves a birthday party full of old people).

* FlatWhat: After describing the "Looney Pool" [[note]]A contest to have the public guess who is or isn't a mentally-ill person among a group of people, thus underscoring the message that 'loonies' are like everyone else.[[/note]] scoring system, which is a long, complex bunch of gobbeldygook that's nigh-impossible to follow, Hector (the nerdy-looking half of ThoseTwoGuys, below) says the trope verbatim to which Campbell answers, "Uh...It's simply a 'Spot The Loony'".

** At one point; A [[https://ibb.co/eLTeya rather depressed Fergus]] can be seen reading TheGreatEscape, which matches his story arc, perfectly. [[note]]In it. A bunch of Allied POWs in a Nazi prison camp have this awesome escape attempt....yet most end up re-captured and executed, making their true "Great Escape" being death. Likewise [[spoiler: Fergus regularly did some crazy escapes, almost successfully escaped with a new job....only to be prevented by Dr. Hollis. So he escapes by killing himself.]] Campbell often pulls a Godwin when describing Evelyn the Assistant Administrator.[[/note]]

* LargeHam: In the ColdOpen of one episode, [[https://youtu.be/d0aOyBeAemc there is a rather hilarious, over-the-top motivational speaker]] at Eddie's workplace; A guy with a bushy mustache who looks and sounds like a more upbeat [[LooneyTunes Yosemite Sam]]. Needless to say; Eddie and the one secretary who also works there think he's ridiculous and Eddie has to make up an imaginary "meeting" with a "customer" for a "successful sale" to [[ScrewThisImOutOfHere get the heck out of there.]]

** Fergus returns the next morning from one of his escape excursions with Campbell's new headphones. He's soaking wet and has wire-cutters in his back pocket.
** In a similar vein; After they [[spoiler: successfully raise money for the new mixer at the end of Episode 3]], Fergus returns with a muddy shovel and muddy lower legs. His explanation to Nurse Isabel: He was getting the morning papers (with the articles about Spike Milligan and the fundraiser). Why this required digging with a shovel is never explained. Fergus must have some interesting adventures during his escapes.

* PluckyComicRelief: There's a few characters; Two that really come to mind [[https://ibb.co/eA1k4F is the silly]] Yosemite Sam-esque motivational speaker at Eddie's workplace and those [[ThoseTwoGuys two fellow]] [[https://ibb.co/euh04F Patients]], a [[{{Gonk}} lumpy grump]] and his [[{{Nerd}} geeky-looking sidekick]] named Hector.

* ThoseTwoGuys: A couple of fellow patients, [[https://ibb.co/dfwXJa a burly couch potato and his goofy sidekick]] he [[VitriolicBestBuds sort-of tolerated]], a bespectacled nerdy-looking guy with possibly a slight, motor-based physical disability. Campbell & Eddie and Campbell & Fergus give off this vibe as well.

* FantasyForbiddingFather: Campbell's clueless, grumpy dad, who wants Campbell to "Grow Up" and just doesn't "get" the kid and thinks his D.J. dreams are stupid. However; Old Mr. Bain takes it even further and threatens to have Campbell "Sectioned" (Permanently, involuntarily and indefinitely committed, perhaps for life) and regards his own son as TheBlackSheep due to the young man's condition.

** At one point; Fergus can be seen reading TheGreatEscape, which matches his story arc, perfectly. [[note]]In it. ** A secondary one can be, "If you really want to succeed in life, sometimes you need to bend and break the rules." [[note]]Eddie was all about "Playing it safe" and "Don't break the rules" and let folks walk all over him. Campbell flaunted the rules, lied, schemed, dreamed, "thought big", "Thought outside the box" and stood up to "The Man". [[spoilers: Eddie ends the series without a job while Campbell goes on to a big career as a professional deejay.]][[/note]]

* TheStoner: Eddie implies Campbell to be this although it was possibly out of anger rather than played straight (Campbell, Fergus and Rosalie were on the street doing their busking stunt and didn't bother to inform Eddie that they would be late for deejay duties).

** The Sweet: [[spoiler: Campbell achieves his dream of being a D.J. (whom being a D.J. is genuinely therapeutic for who and delightfully laughs of some hate-mail from a "loony"-hating listener on-air). Rosalie finally gets her life in order and is released. Francine snaps out of her despair-coma and is last seen on a bench with Eddie and they become a couple....perhaps what Eddie ''really'' needed in life was some''one'', not some''thing''. Finally; Eddie was miserable at his job and was working for jerks and getting fired may be a blessing in disguise. Perhaps he and Francine will prop each other up and soldier on, somehow....]]

* ToneShift: The first three episodes pretty much consist of a mostly quirky and upbeat comedy with a few dramatic moments (the only real bummer being 'Nana', a minor character who's only in the first episode ending up on the street, again). The last three, however, is a lot darker and tragic (but with a few funny moments courtesy of Campbell)....starting with [[spoiler: Fergus' being denied work and committing suicide]].

* AnAesop: "This is what the mentally ill go through and we need to love, understand and help them. We need to change ourselves and wipe away the mental illness stigma. These folks can't fight the corrupt Establishment alone and win so we must pitch in and help. Every social movement needs allies." Also, "You win some and lose some and sometime. Sometimes you can't always get what you want (a DJ career)....but often you get what you need (someone you can relate with and love)".
** Also; The most obvious one from the ''very stated premise''....Sometimes, the "Sane" people a loopier and more crazy than the "Loonies".

* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Eddie has a [[EurekaMoment breakthrough]] concerning "Nana", the old lady who seemed to be [[TalkativeLoon talking in gibberish]]. It turns out [[spoiler: she was a refugee from Latvia who was stranded in Scotland after her daughter, her only known family member and only linguistic link to the U.K., died. Nana is released from St. Jude's....only for Eddie to find out that she was released to the streets, has no family and no home and is now a drunken bag lady in a bad neighborhood. Nana was perhaps better off mistaken for a gibberish-speaking headcase with a home at St. Judes.]]
** Fergus may have sealed his own fate with his big [=CMoA=] paragliding caper. [[spoiler: Dr. Hollis was arriving when it happened, saw Fergus and saw a potential new "guinea pig" to write about. This led to her stifling Fergus' employment prospects and leading him to suicide.]]

* HighHopesZeroTalent: Seems to be the case to some extent with Eddie. He's actually pretty decent and has potential, has [=DJed=] before and knows some general ins and out (even getting Campbell started on the path to success)....but when he actually DJ's alongside Campbell, he's overshadowed by the latter and comes across as *meh*. In a nutshell: He's competent but bland and is probably better off droning the news on NPR (or the British equivalent) then "laying down stacks o' wax". Perhaps if he focused on News/Talk Radio, he might succeed.

* TheGhost: Campbell very briefly alludes to his his "all of" his "pals" whom he plans on "boozing up" with. Also; Mad John, two female Catatonics and a brief mention of the [[ReasonableAuthorityFigure Chief Hospital Administrator]], Dr. Winters (who actually cared about therapy for the Patients and had the station re-opened in the beginning of the Series), by Evelyn to Eddie. Fergus also swiped a lab coat and glasses from a certain "Dr. Brady".

* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: The [[TheGhost unseen]], once-mentioned Chief Administrator is implied to be this.
