* TakeThatKiss: Making what would be a scene of defeat [[spoiler: (Eddie loses his job)]] a hilarious act of triumph and revenge, instead [[spoiler: (Highly doubtful MacAteer would ''want'' Eddie slobbering on him)]].
* TalkativeLoon: A mysterious, [[http://oi68.tinypic.com/14tvpkx.jpg sweet but very mentally-ill old woman]] called "Nana"....due to being elderly (like a 'nana') and going "NA! NA! NA! NA!..." all the time. [[spoiler: Turns out that she's actually a Latvian refugee who had been stranded in Scotland for years.]]
* ThoseTwoGuys: A couple of fellow patients, a burly couch potato and a bespectacled nerdy-looking guy with possibly a slight, motor-based physical disability. Campbell & Eddie and Campbell & Fergus give off this vibe as well.

* ToneShift: The first three episodes are mostly lighthearted with a few dramatic moments. The last three is a lot darker and tragic (but with a few funny moments courtesy of Campbell)....starting with [[spoiler: Fergus' being denied work and committing suicide]].

* AnnoyingLaugh: Fergus has a weird, goony laugh that's sort-of akin to a cross between [[DisneyAnimatedCanon Goofy]] and a [[ChickTracts Chick Tract villain]]. It is not commented on or anything but it just ''is''.

Nana is released from St. Jude's....only for Eddie to find out that she was released to the streets, has no family and no home and is now a drunken bag lady in a bad neighborhood. Nana was perhaps better off mistaken for a gibberish-speaking headcase with a home at St. Judes.]]

* NoodleIncident: Francine is doing deejay duties as Campbell makes a loud DynamicEntry into the studio (excited about his audition for the big national radio station). Francine assumes Campbell pulled another [[https://youtu.be/HxyOTd_0UwE?t=4m58s unspecified, mess-making prank]] (Campbell is implied to be a prankster who gets into all sorts of hijinks at St. Judes, though we never really see this ourselves).

* ImpossiblyTackyClothes: The patients have a fundraiser to raise money for the mixing desk (complete with a SpikeMilligan cameo)....emceed by the incomparable Campbell Bain in what could be described as a look worthy [[http://oi64.tinypic.com/s4cuae.jpg of ''Pee Wee's Playhouse'']]. One might expect him to suddenly bust out with a rockabilly [[TheWiggles version of "Fruit Salad"]] while accompanied by a man in a [[BeakmansWorld rat costume]]. His brief "Doctor" disguise early-on foreshadows this.

* BitchInSheepsClothing: Fergus' psychiatrist and the seemily sweet, matronly Administrator.

* HighHopesZeroTalent: Seems to be the case to some extent with Eddie. He has potential, has [=DJed=] before and knows some general ins and out (even getting Campbell started on the path to success)....but when he actually DJ's alongside Campbell, he's overshadowed by the latter and comes across as *meh*. In a nutshell: He's competent but bland and is probably better off droning the news on NPR (or the British equivalent) then "laying down stacks o' wax". Perhaps if he focused on News/Talk Radio, he might succeed.

Victory for the Asylum Head Honchos. Back to 24/7 'Telly Time' for Patients. Bummer! SpikeMilligan would be displeased! Campbell's pure "WIN!", though.]]

He tells Eddie that he learned how to play guitar and sing "to get a woman" and he makes a pass at the Radio Scotland receptionist.

* TrueCompanions: Eddie & Campbell and Campbell & Fergus (platonic). Eddie & Francine (romantic).

* ThoseTwoGuys: A couple of fellow patients, a burly couch potato and a bespectacled nerdy-looking guy with a slight, motor-based physical disability ({{TRIVIA}}: both likely played by actual patients) who are often comedic foils for each other. Campbell & Eddie and Campbell & Fergus give off this vibe as well.

** In fact; Fergus (adventurous acts of hang-gliding, disguise-wearing and stealth sneak-outs aside) was probably the most calm, rational, "normal" and emotionally "together" of all the "Loonies". We see Campbell being [[LooneyTunes The Tasmanian Devil]]. We see Rosalie obsessively cleaning everything. We see Francine self-harming and freaking out....Then we see Fergus being a very calm, soft-spoken, rational guy (excluding moments where he's just silently in the background with that brooding stare....though it's mainly in the beginning) troubleshooting the issues with the mixer and attempting to fix it....which makes his fate all the more jarring.

* {{Blackmail}}: In the radiothon near the conclusion of the miniseries [[spoiler: (just before the station is shut down for good)]], Campbell realizes how desperate things are and suggests a [[BestialityIsDepraved weird idea]] involving a rich uncle.

* ViolentGlaswegian: Averted, except in the case of asylum "nurse" Stuart.

* WrongGenreSavvy: Campbell's schemes are often rather nice but they don't work out like they would in the movies. His last scheme is a last-ditch effort to raise money with a radio-thon to save the radio station. [[spoiler: It fails. First off; Society is weirded-out by "loonies". Second; The station has a very limited audience. Third; It was all very short notice. Fourth; The powers that be were jerks who hated or didn't understand "loonies" and wanted to close the darn thing anyway, even if there was funding (and they figured that the radio station made the patients too 'excitable' and they preferred them to be bored, sedate and quiet).]]

** The Sweet: [[spoiler: Campbell achieves his dream of being a D.J. (whom being a D.J. is genuinely therapeutic for who and delightfully laughs of some hate-mail from a "loony"-hating listener on-air). Rosalie finally gets her life in order and is released. Francine snaps out of her despair-coma and is last seen on a park-bench with Eddie and they appear to become a couple....perhaps what Eddie ''really'' needed in life was some''one'', not some''thing''. Finally; Eddie was miserable at his job and was working for jerks and getting fired may be a blessing in disguise. Perhaps he and Francine will prop each other up and soldier on, somehow....]]
