The show continues to push how Patience honestly sees herself as the wronged party in the entire affair, instead of the monster who caused so much pain to others.]]

* ASharedSuffering: Kai and Manfried get this in [[spoiler: "Patience is a Virtue" when they both realized Patience didn't love either of them and using them both.]]

* VirginPower: Fiji is wanted by the archdemon Colconnar due to the fact virgin witches are powerful sacrifices. [[spoiler: Fiji and Bobo settle this in the obvious way, making her an impure sacrifice.]]
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: After complaining about Bobo [[ItMakesSenseInContext being turned into a dog]] at the end of an episode, Mr. Snuggles disappears for the rest of the season. * WhatMeasureIsANonHuman: Discussed in "Blinded by the Light" where the Midnighters basically state they don't see any reason to treat a human serial killer any different from the numerous monsters they'd already slain, especially since a number of them are nonhuman themselves. This came at a somewhat odd time in the show given they'd just massacred a group of white supremacist [[AllBikersAreHellsAngels bikers]] for kidnapping Fiji the previous episode.

* AbusiveParents: Bobo's father [[spoiler: turns out to have been a white supremacist criminal mastermind.]]

* AffablyEvil: Olivia and Lemuel may or may not qualify as evil but they're cheerful right up until the point they murder you.

* AssholeVictim: Pretty much a major theme of the show, actually. The Midnighters may be a collection of monsters and weirdos but they run on DarkIsNotEvil and PayEvilUntoEvil. Whenever they do kill people, which is frequently, they only do those who are much-much worse than themselves.

** Lemuel regrets his past as a blood-drinking vampire. Somewhat of a zig-zagged trope as he doesn't so much feel the need to make amends as simply stop doing evil. He also has no objections to Olivia's profession.
** Reverend Sheehan is another example as he doesn't wish to harm anyone as a weretiger and locks himself up during full moons to protect the locals. In season 2, it's revealed [[spoiler: he had killed the real Sheehan during a full moon a decade ago and took on his identity to atone for his past.]]
** At the end of season 2, [[spoiler:Joe becomes this for killing an innocent, even though he was BrainwashedAndCrazy at the time]].
* BackForTheDead: In season 2's "No More Mister Nice Kai," [[spoiler:Creek]] returns only to show up as a ghost at the end of the episode.

* ConvenientlyPreciseTranslation: When Manfred translates the writing [[spoiler: on Theophilus' head]], he appears to be simply looking at each foreign letter and then checking a reference book for the English equivalent, giving the impression that the writing is just English written in a (''dead'') foreign alphabet ''and'' that the dead foreign alphabet has identical phonemes to English,[[CriticalResearchFailure both of which are wrong on many, many levels]]. For reference, when written in [[UsefulNotes/JapaneseWritingSystem hiragana]], the word ''sake'' has only two letters: ''sa'' and ''ke''. Even foreign languages that ''use'' the English alphabet have multiple phonemic differences.

** The premise for the series is the various monsters of Midnight, Texas are decent people who just want to be left alone. [[spoiler: Theyr'e also the soldiers for the side of good against the rising demon horde.]]
** Subverted regarding magic and dark witches, though Fiji begins exploring how true that is in season 2.

* DemonLordsAndArchdevils: Colcanarr is apparently one as he's not at all like the other demons in the show and commands an army of the damned. [[spoiler: Manfred manages to defeat him with his SuperpoweredEvilSide.]]
* DidntSeeThatComing: The reactions of the gang in "Blinded By the Light" when Joe finally reveals his angel wings to them and takes off.

* EmotionEater : Lemuel was granted the ability to feed off of psychic energy by Manfred's Grandma. This allows him to feed without killing people. His scenes with Olivia suggests that he is able to feed off of negative emotions like anger or shame. This ability also gives him the ability to kill vampires with a touch. Though Lemuel has not killed a human in this way on screen, victims do take on a deathly pallor when he feeds and it leaves them physically drained. Lemuel is however, perfectly capable of feeding on human blood and seems to enjoy it. He does save his thirst for AssholeVictims however so he still does fit as FriendlyNeighborhoodVampire.

** The final scene of "Resting Witch Face" as Manfried and Kai talk it out and realize [[spoiler: they've both been played for suckers as Patience is the true evil trying to bring back the dark witch Theophilus. Kai then notes that Manfried is wearing a pendant Patience said would protect him but Kai says it's meant to bond Theophilus' head to a body . . . "And she put it on you . . ."]]

* EvilVersusEvil: Manfred's plan to defeat Colcannar depends on this. He basically gets a bunch of demons to join together within him and directs them at the much more powerful one with the promise of freeing them.

* FauxReigner: It turns out [[spoiler: Patience is this. She speaks for all the second season in a SouthernBelle voice. When she reveals she's really the BigBad, she drops it to speak in a dark British accent. Manfried openly cites how the whole "Southern Charm thing" was just part of her act.]]

He also seems to accept that Patience is evil very quickly after he and Kai actually sit down and compare notes on her many lies, even though "Fiji did an intention spell on Patience. Her intentions are pure" was practically his CatchPhrase before Creek's death. (As it happens, Patience created the spell so naturally could hide from it).]]

* HeroicSacrifice: A few attempts, the oddest being [[spoiler: Mr. Snuggles]], who offered [[spoiler: him]]self as the [[SomeoneHasToDie sacrifice needed]] in the Season 1 finale. Might also count as WhoWantsToLiveForever, although we don't know if this character is immortal or not.
* HopeSpot: Manfred and Creek's relationship take a hit in season 2, and suffers even more when Creek finds out that he shacked up with Patience while she was gone. When it seems like Creek has left town without saying goodbye, [[NeverGotToSayGoodbye Manfred]] leaves her a message on her phone, expressing his concern, regrets, and stating his love. Then he hears her voice outside, and an excited Manfred runs outside to see Creek[[spoiler:'s ghost. She says that she loves him, but moves on to the afterlife before revealing who killed her.]]

* LaserGuidedKarma: In the season 2 finale, [[spoiler: Patience ends up being banished into the same mystical painting she trapped Delilah in for 800 years. Even better, the painting is then hung in the bar so Patience will be forced to watch the happy townspeople for who knows how long.]]

* NoGoodDeedGoesUnpunished: A driving theme of Season 2. Virtually all of the bad things that happen are direct results of someone making a personal sacrifice ([[spoiler: Manfred]]) or people doing what they ''think'' is a good thing at the time ([[spoiler:Kai and Fiji]]}. Manfred even cites the trope as the reason [[spoiler: Fiji]] is EasilyForgiven in the finale.

[[spoiler:Although Kai does say that Patience told him she and Theophilus were good witches and that Delilah was the evil witch that cursed Theophilus]].

[[spoiler: Subverted in that he's still clearly dealing with Creek's departure (badly, by his own admission) and backs off immediately after she rebuffs his first attempt to kiss her; ''she'' then turns around and comes to ''him'', and later episodes indicate that ''all'' of her interactions with Manfred were manipulations to get him to lower his guard until she was ready to use him as a ritual sacrifice. He also seems to accept that Patience is evil very quickly after he and Kai actually sit down and compare notes on her many lies, even though "Fiji did an intention spell on Patience. Her intentions are pure" was practically his CatchPhrase before Creek's death.]]
