[=DeKnight=] has said that a large part of the drama focuses on the ethical contrast of Matt Murdock, someone who has sworn to uphold the law and yet routinely breaks it by dressing up as a superhero and beating bad guys to a bloody pulp. Along those lines, he's also said the writers have taken great pains to make it so that the Kingpin often sounds sensible and rational, as well as AffablyEvil at times. The stated intention is to have viewers root for both characters depending on the episode.

* DarkerAndEdgier: Apparently, they're not afraid to go even darker than [[Film/{{Daredevil}} the movie]] did. WordOfGod is that thanks to Netflix's laxer broadcast standards, the show will be able to get away with violence and mature content the likes of which would be unheard of in the MCU movies or ''Series/AgentsOfSHIELD''.
