** The Death System in ''Runescape 3'' has become this as of the Death Costs Rework in 2023. Death costs for high-tier items used to put players millions of GP in the hole and made learning high-level PVM a prospect too intimidating for many players. However, Jagex eventually decided these costs were too extreme of a MoneySink and reduced the amount of gold one has to pay Death by an average of about 89%, creating a Grand Exchange tax as an alternative MoneySink.

** The Toolbelt provides you with pretty much every basic tool you'll need to do any skilling or quest task in the game, unless it is a very specific item needed for a quest. This saves players long treks or teleports back to the bank for a chisel. Even better, it holds everything without taking up an additional inventory space, which is a huge bonus in a game with only 28 spaces for non-equipment.

Plus, any item you need in a quest that is given to you can be destroyed and reobtained, usually at no cost. For instance, if you're given the only existing copy of an important diary, you can destroy it somewhere in the middle of nowhere or on an entirely separate plane of reality. When you go back to the person who gave you the item, they claim to have either had another copy all along, or even more improbably, claim that somebody else saw you drop it (In a deserted alternate universe?) and returned it to them. Perhaps this is just because they are {{Clingy MacGuffin}}s.

** ''Old School'' has a few of these, and justifiably so. Many of the quests prior to the 2007 backup would be continued at a later date, but this led to some quests that end with cliffhangers (such as "A Forgettable Tale", "Devious Minds", and "Fairytale II") or open questions ("Another Slice of HAM" and "The Eyes of Glouphrie") that have yet to be resolved, partly (largely) due to Old School having a much smaller team with much more on their plates than to develop quests that ended a decade ago. Not to mention that many involve skills or features that aren't in ''Old School''. That said, in 2022 Old School's developers showed interest in backporting RS2 quests that were released after the 2007 backup, starting with "Land of the Goblins."
