Countless eons ago, the self-proclaimed god-king of demons, '''Umbra''', came to Syrunn with one objective in mind: to destroy it. Six powerful mages, unrivaled in their knowledge and skill in the magical arts and known only as '''the Six''', anticipated his arrival and bound him to Oblivion before he even reached their planet. However, they knew it would not bind Umbra forever and had the foresight to realize that they would not be around to see the day he broke free. They summoned the great celestial dragon '''Rythos''' to guard and protect their planet. He lied dormant, waiting for the day Umbra broke free.
Ages passed and Umbra's rage at his imprisonment grew, increasing his power. It had multiplied tenfold before the Six's seal was broken and '''nine arch-demons''' were born from this rage. With them, he gathered to him legions of demonic creatures. Rythos awoke then, prepared to fight. Unfortunately, since he had been bound to the realm of mortals, he had aged and his power had diminished. Knowing he could not face Umbra and his army alone, he decided upon gathering his own army. He took flight and sought out the strongest of warriors and magi, drawing them to him. Among their number was '''Ahm''', a direct descendant of the Six and the greatest mage Syrunn had yet seen.
Led by Rythos and Ahm, Syrunn's army came to stand against Umbra and his own. It was inarguably the largest battle Syrunn had ever seen. Races, civilizations, and millions of innocent lives were lost to the war, great kingdoms were fractured, and one continent was even permanently blighted. In this crippling war, Syrunn lost nearly all of its finest warriors and magi. But all was not lost. In the end, Rythos and Ahm were able to combine their magic and banish Umbra and his remaining eight arch-demons to Oblivion once more. This cataclysmic event was known as '''Umbra's First Coming''' and it happened 8,900 years ago.
Though the world seemed broken, Syrunn's residents began to build upon the rubble of their lands. Determined to recreate what was lost, Syrunn repopulated, advanced in technology and science, and eventually flourished into what became known as the '''Age of Learning'''. Only peace was known to this era of wonders; there was no war. But all things golden must come to an end...
Umbra's wrath had again empowered him until the seal was finally weak enough so that he could slip through. However, only one of his arch-demons, '''Yenboken''', was able to follow before the seal closed again, keeping the other seven locked in Oblivion. Also, the seal held a gravitational pull on Umbra, though it was weak enough that he made no notice and turned to Syrunn, prepared to finish his mission. Rythos, for the last time, rose to face him.
Unfortunately, Rythos had now aged incredibly. He was old, withered, and weak; only a pathetic shadow of his former self. Ahm was thought long dead and Syrunn had been experiencing a golden age that had known nothing but peace for centuries, so there were no powerful warriors or magi to call upon. Thus, Rythos stood alone.
Umbra turned his back on Rythos and sent Yenboken to face the ancient dragon in his stead. Though Rythos fought fiercely and valiantly, it ended with Yenboken driving the dragon's own horn into his heart. All hope was seemingly lost with the fallen dragon.
That was when a tiefling by the name of '''Vahn Draven''' stepped forth to fight. He was a warrior of the sort that had never been known in Syrunn, or any of the other worlds Umbra had destroyed, for that matter. He faced the annihilation that threatened Syrunn alone, in a great battle that shook the whole world. The permanently blighted country was shattered forever. Vahn Draven succeeded in slaying Yenboken, but even this hero of heroes could not kill the god-king of demons. He did, however, weaken Umbra enough so that he could no longer defy the pull of Ahm and Rythos' seal. He was sucked back to his prison in Oblivion and Syrunn was free again. After '''Umbra's Second Coming''', Vahn Draven went on to herald the return of warriors and magi, for better or worse, but his name has since been lost to the 2,000 years that have passed. There are scarce legends that remain of Umbra and the chaos he unleashed on Syrunn and that is all they are believed to be... simply stories. Very few have ever heard of these occurrences and Umbra, Rythos, Ahm, and Vahn Draven have been almost entirely forgotten.
But Umbra's name will not remain forgotten forever. He is not at all happy at being defeated yet again and it is only a matter of time until Syrunn will again find themselves defending not only their lives, but the existence of their entire planet.
