Unshou and Kei Gai reveal that their letters from Rin Setsua asked them to swindle Tan Hi of her crossguard. Setsumusho affirms this with the letter he stole from Rin's teacher, Renki. Cán Yún is shaken up by this turn of events, but still follows the other three as they leave Sho and Tan Hi in their cells. Setsuamusho returns to the Tower, though, seeking Rin's head as promised. Meanwhile, Rin and Betsutengai are having a discussion about the Tiān Xíng Jiàn. Setsuamusho interrupts this discussion, though, and before going after Rin, challenges Betsutengai to a duel. Betsutengai slays Setsuamusho, and explains his swordsmanship to Rin. While this happens, Sho breaks out of his cell.
