On a stormy evening, a van swerves around, into a cemetery, and hits a tombstone marked "Tightly". A mist rises from the grave, throws a guard named Mike off a chest, and enters it. The driver of the van, however, refuses to believe that this is a ghost.

Meanwhile, Winston is reading a book about a crazy millionaire named Jonathan Tightly, while Slimer is waiting for a prize from the lottery ticket Ray gave him. The phone rings, but it's a wrong number, then a visitor shows up, but he's a vacuum cleaner salesman. The Ghostbusters then go out on a job, and then the van workers from the night before show up. They declare Slimer a winner and give him a million dollars.

When the Ghostbusters come back, they see news crews surrounding the firehouse, and Slimer gives Peter some of the money, which, unbeknown to everyone, glows ominously. The guys play a board game with Slimer's money, and he buys pizza for everyone, a stereo system for Janine, a dress suit for Peter, and a second Ecto-1. However, the pizza has gross toppings, the stereo explodes, Peter's suit falls apart, and the car breaks down. After going on a bunch of cases, Egon tests Slimer's money and determines it's haunted. Since burning money is illegal, and they can't cleanse it, they must get rid of it, and Egon suggests returning it to the source of the curse.

The Ghostbusters and Slimer trace the curse to the cemetery, when Ray discovers the ghost of Jonathan Tightly. They try to trap him, but he sets Peter's pack to explode, so they give up and instead give Tightly the money. Janine wonders about the money Slimer already spent, but Egon says the curse is probably lifted, and Slimer goes to buy more (normal) pizza.
