Michael is last seen on Earth having become human and ready to go through all the life and Afterlife trials of mortality. Janet, too remains. Jason is the first to go through the Door, then Chidi, and finally Eleanor.

* WinWinEnding: As the Judge notes in this episode, the new afterlife system is really, truly perfect, where ''everyone'' in the universe is satisfied. All humans become their best selves and eventually make it into the Good Place, and are allowed to peacefully end their existence once they're fulfilled. After thousands of Bearimies under it, even the Bad Place demons, including ''Shawn'', seem to be pleased with the system, with them enjoying creating tests for humans.

* CentralTheme: What Will You Do With Eternity? After seeing the CreativeSterility of The Good Place and creating the option of willingly choosing your own CessationOfExistence, everyone comes to their own conclusion on what they want to do and when they are ready to end things. Jason indulged in all his favorite hobbies and mastered them, and after choosing to leave his only concern was hoping Janet remembers him. Chidi met with all his favorite intellectuals from history, read all the books he ever wanted to and visited any place on Earth he desired to see, only being ready to leave when Eleanor agrees to let him go. Tahani goes through a long checklist of skills and experiences she ever wanted, only to desire to work as an architect as the only thing she hadn't mastered. Eleanor decides to convince Mindy to leave the Medium Place and Michael to live as a human. Michael gets to start from the beginning, reveling in the joys of the human condition.

** Eleanor has come a long way from her roots as an Arizona trashbag, as it does not take long for her to realize that forcing Chidi to stay with her in the afterlife is selfish and lets him leave.

** Eleanor has come a long way from her roots as an Arizona trashbag, as it does not take long for her to realize that forcing Chidi to stay with her in the afterlife is selfish and lets him leave. Her last actions before walking through the door was to help both Mindy and Michael out of their unique static existence, creating one last good impact on the universe.

Added DiffLines:

* TheHedonist: Despite being in the Good Place, people mentioned that Doug Forcet was an oddly intense partier due to his human life being so restrained and submissive.

Added DiffLines:

* ToughActToFollow: After creating the new afterlife system Michael realized he could never do any better and ended up retiring entirely, though shows immense pride seeing Tahani seek this path.

* ForegoneConclusion: Because it's a DistantFinale, presumably everyone that the main cast knows is currently dead (sans Michael in the epilogue), since almost every supporting character is in the Good Place by the time the episode rolls around.
** Because of just how Distant a Finale it is, this trope even extends to real-life figures currently living, including philosophers Todd May and Pamela Hieronymi, and Nick Offerman, all of whom appear [[AsHimself As Themselves]].
* TheFunInFuneral: Of a sort; Jason's going away party is just that - a party. It's filled with DJ music, his sixty person dance crew, strobe lights, and everything else Jason loved in his life and afterlife. Jason is there for the whole thing, and remarks that it's a night he'll never forget (well, until he walks through the Door and dissolves into the universe, but you know what he means). Chidi and Tahani's going-away gatherings are much more tame in comparison.

* TimeyWimeyBall: The "Jeremy Bearimy" timeline the afterlife exists in comes seriously into play here -- the characters have experienced a TimeAbyss that can't be measured in human units (only in Bearimies) that has given them enough time to become sated with the afterlife's delights, achieve as much maturity as they're capable of under their current identity, and choose to AscendToAHigherPlaneOfExistence. Along the way ''everyone they knew on Earth'' has died and gone through the Bad Place's purgatory. (This also includes real people who are currently alive in RealLife, such as the show's philosophy consultants Drs. Todd May and Pamela Hieronymi.) And yet when Michael returns to Earth to begin his life as a human, it's Earth in the recognizable present day -- indeed, the show's ending implies that in the present day of the real world, Michael is still alive and well in Arizona. We also get to see what an afterlife calendar looks like, and some of the days are shown as irregular, non-rectangular shapes that don't fit into a regular grid. The clock is also a twisted and strange contraption with multiple hands and gears twirling around.

** Those who walk through the door leading out of the Good Place meet an ending something like this -- no one, not Janet, knows what they experience, only that it's an end to their conscious identity as themselves. The ending sequence implies they scatter as particles throughout the universe to merge with other souls and make them just a tiny bit better.

* DenouementEpisode: This episode is unique as all external conflict is gone. The Soul Squad have perfected the afterlife system, and it remains perfect for all the Bearimies they stay there. But, in Chidi's words "None of this is bad"; they had all done everything they had ever wanted to do, and were allowed to end their time in the universe peacefully.

Added DiffLines:

* PanUpToTheSkyEnding: Downplayed. After Eleanor walks through the door, she disintegrates into particles, and the camera pans upward to show Eleanor and the other humans' particles in the trees. While this shot isn't the final shot of the episode, it is the final shot regarding this episode's ''story''. The bit with Michael at the end is basically just an epilogue.
