For Take a Third Option, I took out the reference to the Prime Directive which doesn't apply to the Klingons. The Klingons are a fully developed warp travel faring race, the Klingon Civil War is an internal political struggle and the Federation per it's own policies can't take sides in an internal conflict. By treaty, the Federation can only intervene (and are obligated to, actually) if the Romulans directly attack Klingon territory and/or are proven to have supported one Klingon faction over another (which is the reason for the Starfleet blockade).
