In orbit, imposter, and there are no life signs on the planets except the away team themselves. Rice reveals that he is just a hologram created by a floating sentry drone, which fires a stasis field around Riker. Picard and Crusher beam down to the planet, but get trapped in a pit as increasingly deadly drones continue to attack the remaining away team.

Meanwhile,

Geordi fends off attempts by the Chief Engineer to assume command as he struggles to decide whether to risk the whole ship to save the away team or abandon them and flee to safety. Geordi eventually separates the saucer section so that the majority of the ship's crew can stay safe while the rest engage in a risky maneuver to defeat their attacker. The ploy works.

On the planet, the away team realizes that the next drone attack will probably be their last. In the pit, Picard discovers the computer that operates the sales hologram and learns that the attacks on
his moment being ship and crew are all part of a sales demonstration. He agrees to buy the weapons system, and the demonstration ends. The reunited away team beams back aboard the ''Enterprise'', and Picard allows Geordi to stay in command.

Reality Ensues is about characters expecting reality to behave like fiction.

* RealityEnsues:
** When Logan tries to pull rank in assuming command, Geordi reminds him that since Captain Picard himself put him in command, only Picard or another commanding officer (another Captain or Admiral) can remove him from that post.
** Also, how Picard is able to overcome the weapon system on the planet which is about to be "demonstrated" to them by a particularly pushy automated salesman: agree to buy it. It immediately shuts down.

Removed the reference to Picard not having basic first aid knowledge. It was never stated that he didn't have first aid knowledge. While he did rely on some specialist medical knowledge from Crusher around the medicinal properties of certain plants, he appeared to be trying to keep her conscious when he was getting her to answer questions about her treatment not just standing around hopelessly like he had no understanding of first aid.

* MildlyMilitary: What is a naval officer like Picard doing without ''some'' basic training in first aid? It's supposed to be an indication that Starfleet so relies on its medical technology that most of its officers are helpless without it, but comes across as rather far-fetched.
