* DropTheHammer: Elm Ederne uses a hammer-based weapon that's strikingly similar to Magnhild.

* ArmorPiercingQuestion: Before Teams RWBY and JNR leave for their mission, Ruby hands a sombre Oscar the Relic of Knowledge to look after while they're gone in her usual cheerful fashion. However, when Oscar promptly asks ''"Ruby, hiding things from Ironwood; doesn't that feel like what Ozpin did to us?"'', Ruby is visibly distraught.

** Clover winks at Qrow and tells him ''"Lucky you"''; in the Volume 4 episode "[[Recap/RWBYV4E4Family Family]]", a Higanbana waitress did the same thing. In both cases, it's not because Qrow is lucky.

* PreMortemOneLiner: Upon encountering a waiting Tyrian at the end of the episode, a frightened Forest asks who he is. Tyrian says ''"I'm someone just like you! Someone who wants to mix things up around here!"'' before he [[KilledOffscreen kills Forest off-screen]].

Out in the snowy tundra, the Ace Ops show teams RWBY and JNR the ropes.

* ImprobableWeaponUser: Clover's weapon is designed to look and function exactly like a fishing pool. With a hook on the end, he can cast the line out to snag whatever his target is and then he reels the line back in.

* SoLastSeason: Before embarking on their first mission of Volume 7, Teams RWBY and JNR obtain weapon upgrades, new outfits, and even new haircuts, completely changing the way they look and what their weapons can do compared to previous volumes. Also doubles as an ArtEvolution, as certain elements of the CGI up to this point, like the undetailed sausage fingers, are officially retired with the outfit changes.

* SoLastSeason: Before embarking on their first mission of Volume 7, Teams RWBY and JNR obtain weapon upgrades, new outfits and even new haircuts, completely changing the way they look and what their weapons can do compared to previous volumes.

* {{Foil}}: Clover and Qrow are paired up together for the mission to the abandoned mine. Clover surrounds himself with symbols of good luck, such as a rabbit's foot, clover pin, and a horseshoe that he carries. Qrow's personal symbols are ones of bad luck, such as being named after a bird associated with misfortune. Their conversation quickly establishes that Clover is very at ease with working in teams whereas Qrow hasn't done so for a long time and is very uneasy about doing so again. It's also revealed that they share luck-based Semblances: however, Qrow has a misfortune Semblance that he often cannot control whereas Clover has a good fortune Semblance that he appears to have no problem controlling.

* BothSidesHaveAPoint: The heroes are unsettled by Ruby lying to Ironwood in the previous episode. Yang, who had the biggest issues with Ozpin's lying, isn't initially convinced they should have lied and wants to reassure that they're really doing is right; meanwhile, Oscar directly [[ArmorPiercingQuestion asks Ruby]] if it's the same as what Ozpin did to them. Blake and Weiss, however, are more open-minded and feel it's wiser to hold back until they have a better understanding of whether or not they can trust Ironwood.

* SkewedPriorities: Vine warns everyone to be cautious around the Dust deposits because if they go off, not only will it will ruin the launch site of the Amity Communications Tower but everyone would be vaporised as well. Marrow then demands to know why that's always a secondary priority for Vine.

* BadassCrew: When Team RWBY hesitates to fight a Petra Gigas that has merged with volatile Dust, the Ace Ops immediately demonstrate how capable they are in terms of skill and teamwork. Since they have more experience compared to the heroes, the Ace Ops quickly defeat the Grimm without triggering any dust.

%%* AnchoredAttackStance: Elm's Semblance sheathes her feet in energy that literally roots her in place somewhat like a tree. She can use this to stop herself from sliding down an icy slope and to anchor herself while attacking a Petra Gigas.

* ShipTease: When Blake catches Yang staring at her, an abashed Yang comments that she's still getting used to Blake's hair. Blake blushes and asks if she doesn't like the hairstyle causing Yang to become even more flustered about trying to explain that she doesn't think it's bad.

* AnchoredAttackStance: Elm's Semblance sheathes her feet in energy that literally roots her in place somewhat like a tree. She can use this to stop herself from sliding down an icy slope and to anchor herself while attacking a Petra Gigas.

* RubberMan: Vine Zeki can create Aura-based projection of his arms and hands which can elongate like animated vines. He can use these to swing about areas and close the distance between himself and his opponents.

* ShipTease:
** When Blake catches Yang staring at her, an abashed Yang comments that she's still getting used to Blake's hair. Blake blushes and asks if she doesn't like the hairstyle causing Yang to become even more flustered about trying to explain that she doesn't think it's bad.
** Slightly more open to interpretation, but it does seem like Clover flirts with Qrow on a few occasions.

* ShipTease: When Blake catches Yang staring at her, an abashed Yang comments that she's still getting used to Blake's hair. Blake blushes and asks if she doesn't like the hairstyle causing Yang to become even more flustered about trying to explain that she doesn't think it's bad.

* WindsOfDestinyChange: When Dust tumbles from the side of a tunnel, Qrow spots it and yells out a warning to Clover. However, the Dust falls and explodes seemingly before Clover can react. When the smoke clears, it's revealed that the Dust miraculously missed Clover, causing a massive sinkhole in the ground in front of him but leaving him completely unharmed. When Qrow sourly tells Clover that his often uncontrollable Semblance causes misfortune, Clover calmly tells him that his Semblance causes good fortune. The implication is that Qrow's Semblance caused the Dust to fall and explode while Clover's Semblance prevented anyone from being hurt.

* PreMortemOneLiner: Upon encountering Tyrian at the end of the episode, a frightened Forest who he is. Tyrian says ''"I'm someone just like you! Someone who wants to mix things up around here!"'' before he [[KilledOffscreen kills Forest off-screen]].

* SpeedBlitz: Harriet's speed-based Semblance allows her out-race everyone else. During the fight with the Petra Gigas, she uses short bursts of great speed to dodge and distract the Grimm while her colleagues attack from other angles.

** When Forest is dropped off in Mantle by the Atlas Military, he quickly sees a heavily shadowed Tyrian and backs up into the side of a dumpster in shock.

* PreMortemOneLiner: When a frightened Forest asks Tyrian who he is at the end of the episode, he responds ''"I'm someone just like you! Someone who wants to mix things up around here!"'' Then, he uses his scorpion tail to [[KilledOffscreen kill Forest off-screen]].
