The Princess is in her room, throwing toys out the window. As it turns out, she's practising because they're going to the fair. The Queen calls her downstairs and she runs down, but unfortunately, she trips on Nessie and hurts her foot so badly that the doctor ends up being called.

The doctor bandages the Princess's foot and rather bluntly says, "No fair for you!". The adults consider staying at home, but the Queen decides that only she will. She promises a lot of fun, but the Princess is feeling pessimistic and contrary.

The Queen pushes the still-sulky Princess in a little red wagon, deciding to make a makeshift fair, beginning with a rubber-duck-catching game, but the Princess finds the idea boring. The Queen makes a pineapple shy (similar to a coconut shy) but the Princess finds that idea boring too.

The Queen says that if the Princess won't play the games, then it's bedtime, and takes her to... the King and Queen's bed. It turns out that the Queen wanted the Princess to bounce on her and the King's bed. The Princess doesn't want to bounce, so the Queen decides to ''show'' her and starts bouncing on the bed. Initially, the Princess isn't keen on the idea, but grows to find it fun. The pets join in too.

The Queen ends up falling off the bed, but this fall results in no out-of-commission limbs. Meanwhile, the other adults have fun with the bouncy house and bumper car.

The Queen gives the Princess a ride in the wheelbarrow and then both the Queen and Princess and the others do a hoop game. The General wins a toffee apple, the King a goldfish, while the Princess gets the Queen covered in hoops. The Admiral does a duck-catching game and wins a toy octopus, then the Queen and Princess also do so and win a goldfish.

When the other adults, and their goldfish, come back, it's already bedtime and the Queen falls asleep in the middle of the story. The others go into the Princess's room, where she shows them her fish and tells them about the makeshift fair. She suggests giving the other goldfish to the Queen, and she and the Princess go to bed.
