It's a snowy morning, and the Princess is building a snowman and a snowcat. However, she needs a carrot for the snowman's nose. The Princess has a sledge, but it's so rustic that the narrator initially doesn't know what it even is. She explains, then the Chef shows up and hands her a carrot. He then goes sledging on a very fancy sledge, which impresses the Princess. She drops the carrot and goes off to ask the King for a new sledge, while Puss uses a bow (as in the weapon) to catapult the carrot onto the snowman.
The King points out that the Princess already has a sledge, but she thinks it's too old. He tells her that it's only one year old, but she says that it's too slow and too small. He says that it's fast and big enough, and she can't have everything she wants. She begs, but he's insistent.
The Princess then sits on her sledge, looking grumpy. The narrator asks why, and she explains that she's jealous of the Chef's sledge and the King won't buy her one. She then takes the carrot off the snowman and begins eating it, then gets an idea upon seeing the coin she used as the snowman's eye.
Her idea is buying a new sledge with her own money, but the coin isn't enough money. The King points out that the old sledge goes fast, but the Princess claims that a new one would go ''faster'' and steer better. The King decides that there's always room for improvement, and he makes the skis on the old sledge pointier and adds a bell. They take it for a ride, but then the King sees the Chef's sledge and agrees to buy her a new one.
The Princess gets her new sledge, but has trouble getting onto it. She uses her crown as a step-stool, then asks Scruff to give it back, but he doesn't. However, he brings a stick, which she uses to pick up the crown. She has fun at first, but then has a bad landing to avoid landing in the pond. The narrator wonders if the Princess is too young for the sledge, but she angrily says that it's the pond that's in the wrong place. She tries again, but goes through the compost heap, so she tries a third time, but crashes into the snowman.
The Princess has now given up, and she tells the King about how she keeps falling out of her new sledge. They both decide that she's just too young and should keep using the old one for now. Then, everyone goes sledging, including the pets.
