José Urbano, a violent drug dealer, is shot and killed at a church fair. It soon becomes clear that the local community, and the church's priest Roberto Torres, are all covering for someone. The investigation leads to Alicia Rivers whose sister Lucy was violently attacked and raped. The detectives believe that Urbano raped Lucy, so her boyfriend Nicky Guzmán shot him, with Alicia and Torres as accomplices. Evidence shows that the murder weapon belongs to Alicia's grandmother, so Alicia is arrested. Robinette convinces Alicia's grandmother to co-operate; she confirms Nicky killed Urbano for raping Lucy. Nicky is charged with murder, while a judge dismisses the charges against Alicia.

* CommonNonsenseJury: Nicky deliberately and willfully premeditates the murder of Urbano: by consulting with his priest, stealing his aunt's gun, stalking the man, and shooting him in the crotch multiple times. However, he invokes the fact that Urbano had raped Lucy and asserts that he was protecting Lucy's honor, even though the prosecution finds evidence that this wasn't the case. After the jury acquits the boy, this exchange results:

Chet Burton, a
lawyer and a hostile community when he tries to prosecute a young who specialises in cases like Nicky's, agrees to defend him pro bono. Burton's argument is accused that since Nicky is from Puerto Rico, violent revenge is justified in his culture. When Burton fails to convince the judge to exclude an overheard conversation with Torres as evidence, he instead frames his questioning of murdering Torres for the jury to believe that there's reasonable doubt. The judge won't allow Stone to call a witness who would testify that Nicky is a drug dealer who raped had worked for Urbano; and the jury acquits. They clearly knew Nicky to be guilty, but acquitted out of personal sympathy for him. Stone and Robinette are concerned that this paves the way for others to get away with murder.
