Jon was on a way for a picnic when a police officer stop him for speeding in an 8 MPH (miles per hour) zone. Jon says it's ridiculous as he didn't see the sign. But the police leads him to a small sign that no one could see it and proceed to pay the ticket. Refuse, Jon stated it's ridiculous so the police officer ask him to follow him to the court. Just as they arrive, Garfield and Odie realize that the judge and and the police officer ( and the attorney who Jon says he'll defend him) are the same person and is trying to con Jon. Jon doesn't see the con and plead to the judge to let him go in which the judge sentence him to 100 dollars fine.

Garfield and Odie drags Jon away and they left while the police officer gives them a chase. Jon, who still doesn't realize the police officer is a phony, wants to surrender but suddenly his car hood was chipped off due to an oncoming truck and Jon was thrown out of the car for not wearing seat belt. Jon tries to chase him but he was caught by the police officer. Garfield and Odie manages to read the manual and stop the car just in time only for the real police officers who were on patrol waiting for speeders halt them. Just as they were going to throw them in the pound, Odie gives the fake ticket to one of the officer and they recognize the name "Officer Weevil", a crook who impersonate a cop, while Garfield shows them the way. Jon begs to let him out to save his pets but Weevil refuse to listen; charging Jon extra for his 'crimes' until the real officers catches him red handed. Jon was relieve that he was not guilty and thank Garfield for saving him. Jon then ask him how he can repay him as Garfield ask him to buy them an umbrella. When the cable goes out, Garfield is forced to turn to books for entertainment. But like Orson, it turns out that Garfield's imagination gets away from him when he imagines himself as Robinson Crusoe while reading the very same book. Eventually, Garfield becomes so engrossed in the story that he starts acting out the novel, incorporating Odie, Jon, and the cable guy who came to fix the cable.
