** Saul using Tom Hagen and ''The Godfather'' as an analogy during his business proposal to Walt. He also scornfully agrees with Walt that the latter ''ain't'' Vito Corleone. Right now, he's Fredo and that's an accurate assessment of Walt's still-fledgling criminal career and experience at this point in the series. The thing to remember, however, is that Fredo's incompetence, resentment, and greed ended up doing catastrophic damage to the Family and their operations during the ''Godfather'' Trilogy -- and it ultimately got him killed. Saul is unknowingly foreshadowing how the series will end.
** After Walt and Jesse are both officially represented by Saul, he asks them if a "prison shanking" is completely off-limits...which it would be, [[Recap/BreakingBadS5E8GlidingOverAll for now.]]

* CallBack: To the previous episode, when one of Walt's students was unsuccessfully trying to plead with him for a passing grade, arguing "58, I was close". At the end of this episode, we see Walt giving another student's paper a grade of 40, with the comment "NOT EVEN CLOSE".

** Saul enthusiastically going into business with Walt initially seems like it's him trying to get himself a bigger payday than what he normally gets. ''Better Call Saul'' reveals that there ends up being much more to it than that, specifically when it comes to how Walt's behaviors matches up with a certain someone from Saul's personal life.
