* HopeSpot: Servalan has the Liberator outnumbered and outmanouvred, but Tarrant is able to outsmart her. Jarvik comes up with a cunning plan and is given three of the most advanced cruisers to carry it out -- the Liberator is able to destroy all three. Our heroes board the freighter only to be ambushed, but then Avon appears and guns down their ambushers. Success! Nope -- everything up to now was just a distraction for the guards hidden in the cargo.

Added DiffLines:

** Jarvik is hauled before the President of the Federation after he's heard bad-mouthing her tactics. His response it to announce, "Woman, you're beautiful" and give Servalan a ForcefulKiss. When Servalan orders him sent to the punishment cells, he bangs her guards' heads together, picks up a weapon and points it at Servalan...and then casually puts it aside, saying he's not here to brawl with her minions.

* AllPlanetsAreEarthlike:
** Subverted; Avon sets a condition that Servalan must beam them down to a planet with earth-like conditions. Servalan sends them down to Kairos.
** The planet Avon retrieves his rock from requires breathing masks.
* AlternateCharacterInterpretation: Does Servalan submit to Jarvik because WomenPreferStrongMen, or is she just enjoying the novelty of being dominated by another boy-toy that she'll discard as soon as his Alpha Male posturing ceases to amuse her? Did she go along with his plan in the first place because she just wanted a scapegoat if Tarrant escaped again?

* HoYay: The unintended result of an episode full of Alpha Male posturing and contempt for women that ends up with Tarrant and Jarvik rolling around in the grass on top of each other.
* IdiotPlot
** Servalan hears a construction worker is badmouthing her. Instead of dispatching the secret police to rearrange his brainwaves, she invites him to the control room to smirk at his opinion.
** Servalan sends Jarvik down to fight Tarrant. Ostensibly it's to recover the teleport bracelets, but they're shown to have plenty of spares, and they're useless once the Liberator leave orbit. Why didn't he go down to retrieve Orac's key, which Avon is stated to still have in his possession? This would also mean that Avon was never searched in the first place, despite the need to check him for weapons or computer equipment he could have used to escape captivity.
* IRejectYourReality: Jarvik pleads with Servalan to believe her own eyes rather than what Zen is telling her. When Zen offers a possible explanation (the lander is just a holographic projection designed to hide the spacecraft's true nature) she decides to run.
* IrrevocableOrder: Avon uses this to enforce a provision to their surrender.
* ILoveYouBecauseICantControlYou
* InsultToRocks: Avon thinks even the rock is smarter than his colleagues.
* ItAmusedMe: Why Servalan sends down Jarvik to fight Tarrant and retrieve the teleport bracelets as a BattleTrophy (she can prevent Zen beaming them up by moving Liberator out of orbit, and there's no shortage of spare bracelets on the ship). However Avon quickly realises that Jarvik's presence means that the Liberator will blast them as soon as he beams up (Servalan can just target where he's been with a couple of plasma bolts).
* Narm: Three words. Brian the Spider. Oh, you wanted a little more detail? The episode called for a terrible alien life-form that makes Kairos uninhabitable for most of the year. The special-effects department delivered a giant orange snail with legs, which wobbled oh-so-slowly towards our heroes as the otherwise scarily competent Dayna forgot how to use her own legs. (For this and other reasons, this episode is often seen as SoBadItsGood by fans.)
* NiceJobFixingItVillain: Servalan could have just taken the Liberator and her man-toy and left, she'd have won as the lander could only get them off the planet.
** The guard kills Jarvik while trying to shoot Dayna. "Kill me and who operates the teleport?"
* ARareSentence: Avon smugly listens to Orac admit the Sophron is (by a 'marginal' degree) more rational that it is.
* RatedMForManly

** Our heroes bluff Servalan into fleeing. While Avon and Villa are equally motivated to self-preservation as Servalan, they have nothing to lose so are willing to risk everything for victory.
