This is EarlyInstalmentWeirdness because Tarrant was originally intended to be a more treacherous character, a FakeDefector who joined the crew because he was planning to seize the Liberator.

** Avon makes a snide comment that Orac is worth every penny that Servalan almost paid for it ("Deliverance").

* DuelsDecideEverything: Blood feuds and dueling are part of the culture of Vandor and Teal, hence the CombatByChampion as a substitute for war. Del uses this to challenge Vinni, declaring a blood feud for the death of his brother.

** Servalan used an android posing as a human in "Project Avalon".
** Restoring order after a conflict the Federation secretly started sounds a lot like the Lindor Strategy in "Bounty".
* HitmanWithAHeart: Deeta only kills in self defense, won't shoot a man InTheBack, and isn't happy about the idea that his younger brother might be inspired to follow in his footsteps.
* HonorBeforeReason: Neither Tarrant brother is willing to shoot Vinni [[InTheBack from behind]].

* MundaneUtility: Orac gripes about being used to relay [[WeWillUseWikiWordsInTheFuture viscasts]] of the duel (they also use him as a drinks tray). Later they find a more effective use for Orac hacking into the battle computer to find out where Tarrant is going to be dueling ahead of time.

* ADayInTheLimelight: Steven Pacey wanted more lines, so an episode was written where he could [[ActingForTwo play both himself and the guest star]]!

** On encountering Steven Pacey in a wig instead of his Del Tarrant perm, Karla says he looks different somehow.
