In her bedroom, while listening to music, Dani does homework. The music is suddenly joined by a distant call of her name. From the mirror, Gina's disembodied reflection calls for help. Dani calls back. A concerned Kirk enters. Kirk appeals to their mother, who urges Dani not to blame herself for Gina's disappearance. That night, Dani watches a home video of herself, Kirk and Gina larking about in the snow. Suddenly, Gina’s recorded image turns to the screen. Gina's image claims to be trapped at Bigfoot Ridge. To Kirk, Dani announces her departure. Outside, she mounts the snowmobile, and drives off.

On the edge of the woods, Dani stops the snowmobile, and dismounts. Across the whistling wind calls Gina’s voice. Dani reaches a wooden lodge. A hand taps her shoulder - it’s Kirk. They enter the lodge, and cautiously explore the dim, derelict interior. Propped against a wall, swathed in cobwebs, is a Ski Patrol jacket - whose wearer has long been reduced to a skeleton. From another room calls Gina. As she approaches through the gloom, her eyes glow yellow. She calmly backs Dani and Kirk into a wall. Suddenly drained of energy, they slump to the floor. With a clap of thunder, lightning flares through the cabin. In its glow, Dani and Kirk’s faces briefly appear aged. When it fades, Gina has vanished.

From across the lodge calls a weary, older-sounding voice. In a hallway-sized room, from a sofa before a lit fireplace, the older-sounding voice identifies as Gina. The grey-haired face of their teenage sister is lined with age. Her youth has been drained by the Umbra, a shape-shifting spectral entity. Out snowboarding, she followed off the backside what she thought to be someone from Ski Patrol.

Dani and Kirk help Gina to her feet. They pass a mirror. In shock, Gina beholds her prematurely aged reflection. Behind her reflected face, she sees what appears to be her younger self. The yellow-eyed, Gina-shaped Umbra serenely approaches. The siblings run back into the hall. While Kirk supports Gina, Dami starts a fire - the Umbra fears.

As daylight fades and the wind howls - they're stuck here for the night. As Dani searches for firewood, the Umbra saunters towards her, eyes aglow. Kirk hurries over, and shines his flashlight directly into the Umbra’s face. With a hiss, it grimaces, and vanishes. They need to stay in the light - but Kirk's flashlight is running low. He finds the nearby light switch. It has no power. He then finds a door marked "GENERATOR ROOM". Inside, while Dani stands guard with the flashlight, Kirk manages to start the generator, but darkness remains - the fuse box must be outside.

Onto the fire, Kirk throws the last of the fuel. The working fuse box, he supposes, must be outside. He steps out into the howling wind. Stooped against the wind, he staggers toward a wall which holds a mounted metal box.

With the fire out, the Umbra, eyes aglow, slowly advances upon Dani. As she backs into a wall and collapses, it beams an insidious grin - and instantaneously transforms itself to resemble Dani.

With his flashlight, Kirk prises open the locked fuse box.

The Umbra laughs...

Kirk flicks a switch.

The lodge is flooded with soft light. The Umbra’s laugh gives way to a gasp of shock. As it convulses, its clothes and features fade to inky blackness. The living silhouette writhes, and compacts into a spreading, formless shadow, which convulses and vanishes. Kirk hurries in, and crouches by Dani. Overwhelmed with relief, Kirk and Dani hug. On the sofa, they find Gina, restored to her natural youth.

While Megan fusses over the dusty sofa, Tucker arrives late. astride a racing bike. In training for a race, he has a tale of extreme sports - whose participants have something other to fear than injury. Submitted for the approval of the Midnight Society, he calls this story “The Tale of Bigfoot Ridge”.

On a broad, snowy slope, snowboarders glide and leap. Brother and sister Kirk and Dani stop for a rest.

-->'''Dani:''' Now we go off the backside, right?
-->'''Kirk:''' Wrong, I’m done.
-->'''Dani:''' You said if we -
-->'''Kirk:''' Dani - let it go, alright?
-->'''Dani:''' How can you just give up? We’ve got to keep searching!
-->'''Kirk:''' … I’m sorry.

He sadly carries away his snowboard.

Dani gazes at the distant scene of whizzing snowboarders. By the trees she sees what appears to be her missing sister.

-->'''Dani:''' Gina?\

Incredulous, she hurries past the sliding snowboarders, one of whom glides in front of Gina. With they pass, Gina has vanished.

As Dani puts away her snowboard, Kirk approaches.

-->'''Kirk:''' Hey… Look, uh, I’m sorry I told you I’d go off the backside, but it was the only way I could get you to have some fun. Dani… there’s nothing more we can do! Don’t you think I miss her too?
-->'''Dani:''' It’s not about missing her. It’s about finding her.

… In her bedroom, while listening to music, Dani does homework.

The electric guitar and drumming are suddenly joined by a soft, distant call of her name.

Dani switches off the music:

-->'''Gina:''' Dani, help me.\

Dani looks around, happens to look down - and sees, in her mirror, a disembodied reflection of her sister.

Alarmed, Dani calls for her sister, and looks around.

A concerned Kirk enters.

-->'''Dani:''' I just saw her!
-->'''Kirk:''' Who?
-->'''Dani:''' Gina!
-->'''Kirk:''' Where?
-->'''Dani:''' In the mirror! She asked me for help…

Kirk peers at her in grave concern.

Their mother arrives.

-->'''Kirk:''' Mom, you gotta talk to her…!
-->'''Marie:''' It’s okay. Go see what’s on the tube.

He leaves them to talk.

-->'''Dani:''' I think I’m going crazy.
-->'''Marie:''' You’re just upset.
-->'''Dani:''' I play it over and over in my head! I don’t know why Gina just took off the backside like that.
-->'''Marie:''' She made a mistake. It’s that simple.
-->'''Dani:''' I should have gone with her.
-->'''Marie:''' Dani, you have to let go of this guilt.
-->'''Dani:''' But I should have gone with her! If I went with her…
-->'''Marie:''' Then you’d both be lost. You did the right thing.

That night, Dani watches a home video of herself, Kirk and Gina larking about in the snow. Suddenly, Gina’s recorded image turns to the screen.

-->'''Gina:''' Dani… I need help.
-->'''Dani:''' Where are you?
-->'''Gina:''' I’m on Bigfoot Ridge.

In the kitchen, as Kirk returns from a drive through the snow, Dani announces she’s going boarding.

Kirk looks at her map.

-->'''Kirk:''' Bigfoot Ridge. You can’t board there… Why there?
-->'''Dani:''' Because Gina might be there.
-->'''Kirk:''' No way. That’s thirty miles from where she left you. It’s freezing! And there’s a storm coming!
-->'''Dani:''' Then I better hurry.

Outside, she mounts the snowmobile, and drives off.

On the edge of the woods, Dani stops the snowmobile, and dismounts. Across the whistling wind calls Gina’s voice. Having alerted to Dani her position down a small slope, Gina mounts her snowboard, and slides off.

On her own snowboard, Dani follows her into the woods, and reaches a wooden lodge.

A hand taps her shoulder - it’s Kirk. He followed Dani, but didn’t see the tracks of Gina’s snowboard.

They enter the lodge, and cautiously explore the dim, derelict interior.

Propped against a wall, swathed in cobwebs, is a worn Ski Patrol jacket - whose wearer has long been reduced to a skeleton.

A weary, older-sounding voice calls from across the lodge.

In a hallway-sized room, from a sofa before a lit fireplace, the older-sounding voice identifies as Gina.

-->'''Dani:''' Gina…? What’s wrong with you? What did you do to us?
-->'''Gina:''' It wasn’t me. It was the Umbra.

Danni and Kirk approach the front of the sofa. Gina covers her face.

-->'''Gina:''' Don’t look at me!\

Dani pulls the gloved hands away from Gina’s face.

The grey-haired face of their teenage sister is lined with age.

-->'''Kirk:''' What’s this Umbra?
-->'''Gina:''' It makes you see things that aren’t real. When I boarded off the backside, I thought I was following a guy from the Ski Patrol, but it was the Umbra. It lures people here, and then it…
-->'''Kirk:''' The skeleton from the other room - it was dressed in a Pki Patrol uniform…
-->'''Gina:''' There are bodies all over the lodge. And I’m the next.
-->'''Dani:''' No, you’re not! We’re getting out!

The two help Gina to her feet.

They pass a mirror. In shock, Gina beholds her prematurely aged reflection. Behind her reflected face, she sees what appears to be her younger self.

-->'''Gina:''' '''''RUN'''''!\

The yellow-eyed, Gina-shaped Umbra serenely approaches.

-->'''Gina:''' ''Don’t look in its eyes''!\

They hurry back to the hall.

-->'''Gina:''' Fire… get going! It stays away from the light.\

While Kirk supports Gina, Dani hurries to a weekly flickering fireplace, and adds some firewood…

As daylight fades and the wind howls, Dani inspects a shelf.

-->'''Kirk:''' The storm’s out full force. We’re stuck here ‘til morning.\

He throws wood onto the fire, and faces the sofa, where sits Gina.

-->'''Kirk:''' Why does it look like you?
-->'''Gina:''' Because it’s stolen everything I am. When it finds another victim, it’ll look like them.
-->'''Kirk:''' What is it, a ghost?
-->'''Gina:''' I don’t know, but it’s ancient. It stays alive by luring victims and feeding off them.
-->'''Dani:''' So that wasn’t you I saw at home?
-->'''Gina:''' No. It was an illusion to get you to come. I’m sorry, you guys. Now you’re stuck here, too.
-->'''Kirk:''' We’re all getting out of here.
-->'''Gina:''' I’ll find more stuff to burn.

Kirk sinks onto the sofa.

-->'''Gina:''' Don’t look at me.
-->'''Kirk:''' Are you kidding me? I am so happy to see you.

… Through the shadows, the Gina-shaped Umbra approaches.

As Dani searches, the Umbra saunters towards her, eyes aglow.

-->'''Dani:''' Kirk…?\

Kirk hurries over, and shines his flashlight directly into the Umbra’s face. With a hiss, it grimaces, and vanishes.

They return to the sofa.

-->'''Gina:''' Don’t get out of the light! It’s always out there, waiting!
-->'''Kirk:''' Well, I got bad news. We’re always out of stuff to burn. This fire isn’t gonna last us all night. ''{taps flashlight}'' This battery’s almost dead.

On a rafter above the fireplace, Dani sees several electric bulbs.

Kirk finds the nearby light switch. It has no power.

Flashlight in hand, he leads Dani into the kitchen. On the floor is another skeleton.

Kirk shines the flashlight across the room, where it lands on a large door marked “GENERATOR ROOM”.

Inside, while Dani stands guard with the flashlight, Kirk examines the generator. The flashlight starts to fail. In desperation, she taps it.

Before her, through the darkened kitchen saunters the Umbra. Dani manages to reactivate the light, in whose glare the Umbra vanishes.

Kirk continues to attend the generator.

-->'''Dani:''' Will it work?
-->'''Kirk:''' It should, if there’s gas.
-->'''Dani:''' It’s out there. It’s waiting for this light to die.

Kirk turns a crank. With a heavy rattle, the generator ignites.

-->'''Dani:''' Why aren’t the lights on?
-->'''Kirk:''' There must be a fuse box.

… By the fire, Gina shrinks into the sofa. Towards her, through the darkness, stalks the Umbra.

In the kitchen, Kirk finds the fuse box intact, but ancient.

-->'''Kirk:''' There must be a newer main breaker somewhere else.\

From the sofa, they hear Gina scream.

The Umbra is almost upon Gina. Followed by Kirk, Dani throws the flashlight's beam into the Umbra’s face, temporarily banishing it.

Onto the fire, Kirk throws the last of the fuel. The working fuse box, he supposes, must be outside. After all this time, Dani is unable to leave Gina.

-->'''Kirk:''' … I’m gonna have to take the flashlight or I’ll never find it. It was, uh… it was pretty cool, you know, the way that you didn’t give up on Gina. Don’t give up on me either, okay?

He steps out the howling wind.

Dani gives Gina some bottled water. Just then, the fire starts to die. Dani desperately pokes it.

On the sofa, Gina reaches for Dani’s tinted snow visor. The hand of the Umbra dweeps down to snatch them…

… Outside, stooped against the wind, Kirk staggers toward a wall which holds a mounted metal box. He desperately struggles towards it…

-->'''Kirk:''' Wrong, I’m done.
-->'''Dani:''' You said if we -
-->'''Kirk:''' Dani - let it go, alright?
-->'''Dani:''' How can you just give up? We’ve got to keep searching!
-->'''Kirk:''' … I’m sorry.

He sadly carries away his snowboard.

Dani gazes at the distant scene of whizzing snowboarders. By the trees she sees what appears to be her missing sister.

-->'''Dani:''' Gina?\

-->'''Gina:''' Dani, help me.\

Dani looks around, happens to look down - and sees, in her mirror, a disembodied reflection of her sister.

Alarmed, Dani calls for her sister, and looks around.

A concerned Kirk enters.

-->'''Dani:''' I just saw her!
-->'''Kirk:''' Who?
-->'''Dani:''' Gina!
-->'''Kirk:''' Where?
-->'''Dani:''' In the mirror! She asked me for help…

Kirk peers at her in grave concern.

Their mother arrives.

-->'''Kirk:''' Mom, you gotta talk to her…!
-->'''Marie:''' It’s okay. Go see what’s on the tube.

He leaves them to talk.

-->'''Dani:''' I think I’m going crazy.
-->'''Marie:''' You’re just upset.

-->'''Gina:''' Dani… I need help.
-->'''Dani:''' Where are you?
-->'''Gina:''' I’m on Bigfoot Ridge.

-->'''Dani:''' Then I better hurry.

-->'''Gina:''' Don’t look at me!\

Dani pulls the gloved hands away from Gina’s face.

The grey-haired face of their teenage sister is lined with age.

-->'''Kirk:''' What’s this Umbra?
-->'''Gina:''' It makes you see things that aren’t real. When I boarded off the backside, I thought I was following a guy from the SkI Patrol, but it was the Umbra. It lures people here, and then it…
-->'''Kirk:''' The skeleton from the other room - it was dressed in a ski patrol uniform…
-->'''Gina:''' There are bodies all over the lodge. And I’m the next.
-->'''Dani:''' No, you’re not! We’re getting out!

The two help Gina to her feet.

They pass a mirror. In shock, Gina beholds her prematurely aged reflection. Behind her reflected face, she sees what appears to be her younger self.

-->'''Gina:''' ''''RUN''''!\

The yellow-eyed, Gina-shaped Umbra serenely approaches.

-->'''Gina:''' ''Don’t look in its eyes''!\

-->'''Gina:''' Don’t look at me.
-->'''Kirk:''' Are you kidding me? I am so happy to see you.

… Through the shadows, the Gina-shaped Umbra approaches.

As Dani searches, the Umbra saunters towards her, eyes aglow.

-->'''Dani:''' Kirk…?\

-->'''Dani:''' Will it work?

With the fire out, the Umbra, eyes aglow, slowly advances upon Dani. As she backs into a wall and collapses, it beams an insidious grin - and instantaneously transforms itself to resemble Dani.

… With his flashlight, Kirk prises open the locked fuse box.

The Umbra yells an ethereally distant laugh.

… In the fuse box, Kirk flicks a switch.

The lodge is flooded with soft light. The Umbra’s laugh gives way to a gasp of shock. As it convulses, its clothes and features fade to inky blackness. The living silhouette writhes, and compacts into a spreading, formless shadow. Kirk hurries in, and crouches by Dani.

The shadow breaks into small fragments. From their centre bursts a ring of blue lightning. Another erupts, sucks in the shadow pieces, and vanishes.

-->'''Kirk:''' I guess it worked.\

Overwhelmed with relief, they hug.

On the sofa, they find Gina, restored to her natural youth.

-->'''Kirk:''' You’re back!
-->'''Gina:''' Really…? I feel like I’m a million years old… and I’m starving!

… The three siblings step outside into the sunlit snow.

By the campfire, Quinn looks admiringly at Tucker’s new bike - and decides to borrow it for a ride home.

-->'''Tucker:''' … Put out the fire. ‘’{gives chase}’’ Don’t blame me if you... !
-->'''Quinn:''' OW!
-->'''Tucker:''' … Dump!
