Von Paljas' windmill flies through space, and Alfred asks if it's going to be much longer. Von Paljas tells him they're almost there ane brings up an image of a planet or moon to the monitor screen, telling Alfred it's K-27. Alfred asks why they're visiting it and Von Paljas tells him there's something he wants to see.

In K-27's atmosphere Alfred looks out of the window and comments on how bleak it is, and Von Paljas says it makes them realize how beautiful their own planet is. Von Paljas opens the propeller and turns the ship to landing position, lowering it into a ravine. They walk out in spacesuits and Alfred has trouble with the low gravity, stumbling and ending up bouncing upside down. He tells Von Paljas the suit is making walking more difficult, but he assures him he's going to get used to it quickly.

They walk on and Von Paljas explains that some extraterrestrials from another planet had been using K-27 as a landfill, and he wants to know what has been happening there. Alfred asks about a scrap pile ahead of them, and Von Paljas tells him he'll see soon. The pile seems to consist entirely of different robots, some looking humanoid and some resembling dinosaurs, all in disrespair. Alfred and Von Paljas stand in front of the giant pile, Alfred noting that they're all war machines and Von Paljas explaining that they weren't needed anymore after peace was declared. He says that while peace is a good thing, this looks very sad. Alfred tells him he's sorry for these robots and Von Paljas says they used to move freely in there, and Alfred asks if they're immobilized now. Von Paljas says he thinks so, but is suddendly startled and adjusts his suit's audio receiver. Alfred asks if something's wrong and Von Paljas asks if he can hear something, and Alfred also adjusts his receiver. He then says he hear it too, and a quacking noise becomes audible. Alfred asks what it is and Von Paljas points out the direction it's coming from, the scrap pile. The quacking noise becomes louder and Alfred goes forward to look, but Von Paljas yells at him to stop and says they need to be careful, since they're on an unknown planet. Alfred turns and ssys he knows, but wants to get closer. He then runs off, with Von Paljas following him after standing for a moment.

Alfred and Von Paljas pokecout at the top of the pile and look around, spotting a tyrannosaur-like treaded robot that's the source of the quacking. It moves past, but notices them when they scream. They duck into the pile and Alfred says there ''is'' one there that's still alive, but Von Paljas says it's not correct to say that it's "alive", and it's just still working. Alfred asks if it's dangerous and Von Paljas says he doesn't know, while the robot is still standing in place and staring at them. Von Paljas says that the model was designed to be friendly to people, but when the robot starts wading through the scrap towards them Alfred says it looks threatening, and Von Paljas tells him they need to stay in hiding for a while. As the robot continues wandering, Von Paljas suggests that it must have it's own power generator. Alfred notes that it's badly wounded, missing an arm, but Von Paljas tells him thst the robot is ''damaged'' and not "wounded". The robot then spots them again and they run away, Alfred asking what happens if it catches them and Von Paljas says he has no idea and they need to get as far as possible, saying that those robots are pretty fast.

The robot starts going after them when they're out of the pile but Von Paljas falls over, and Alfred stops to ask if he's alright. Von Paljas says he is and gets up quickly, and Alfred tells him they need to split up; Alfred will try to draw the robot's attention to himself, so that Von Paljas can get back to the windmill and ready for liftoff. Von Paljas nods and runs, while Alfred remains in place. The robot then suddendly jumps up from behind him and he runs steep uphill, with the robot chasing after him. Climbing starts getting difficult for him, but the robot's treads are perfect for the terrain. Alfred looks behind his shoulder and almost runs off a high cliff, getting trapped between the ledge and the approaching robot. The robot strikes the ground with it's claw hand, sending Alfred falling off and breaking the cliff from under the robot. Alfred has ended up on a small ledge not far away from the clifftop, while the robot is swept up by the rockslide and falls all the way down. Alfred opens his eyes and sees the robot laying unmoving on the ground, but it then turns it's head towards Alfred, causing him to scream and try to climb up. The robot somehow gets into upright position and follows, but has trouble getting up the steep hill.

Alfred runs to the windmill and climbs up the ladder, yelling at Von Paljas to get going and saying the robot is approaching. Von Paljas is still fiddling with the machinery and Alfred asks what's the matter now. Von Paljas starts saying something but Alfred speaks over him in shock, asking if something's broken. The robot gets to the windmill, almost it's height, and looks in through the window. Alfred notices it and yelps in shock, mumbling to Von Paljas who doesn't notice and says that they can go now. The propeller starts and the robot bangs on the windmill's wall, causing tremors. Alfred tells Von Paljas to hurry up, and he says they're lifting off right now. However, the robot grabs one of the windmill's bottom fins and the windmill is left hovering in place with the robot's weighting them down, it's treads only meters above the ground. Alfred screams for Von Paljas to do something and he activates the rocket engine, shooting fire at the robot. Eventually it loses it's grip and falls over, allowing the windmill to escape. It looks up sadly and reaches out, and Alfred looks through the window pityingly. In space the propeller is pulled in, and as they leave K-27 behind Von Paljas asks Alfred what's the matter. He asks if he's feeling unwell and Alfred, sad, asks if he things the robot was really going to attack them, and Von Paljas says it '''did''' attack them. Alfred suggests that maybe it was just following them and Von Paljas asks what is he getting at. Alfred tells him he's feeling sorry for it, but Von Paljas tells him it's just a robot. Alfred says that the robot is living in that planet all alone, and must be very lonely. Von Paljas tells him not to worry and says robots don't have emotions, but Alfred questions how can he know that and says that they could have developed emotions after years of living with people.

The windmill lands at Von Paljas' backyard with a crash, bouncing for a while before settling down and causing Alfred and Von Paljas to scream. Once it's over, they've both fallen off their seats to the bottom of the ladder, and Alfred asks him to please be more careful. Von Paljas says sorry and explains that landing hasn't been so easy lately, and Alfred says that the windmill isn't in good shape. Von Paljas djectedly admits he's right and puts his hat back.

At evening in Alfred's house, he's drinking coffee with Winnie and Henk. Henk asks if he really isn't going to go to the space for a while, and Alfred says that there are no plans but Von Paljas is unpredictable and might suddendly want to go again. Winnie says she's sorry but Alfred says it's okay, he likes going into space and he isn't scared. Winnie asks if he really isn't, saying that she was thinking of the robot he mentioned. Alfred, looking angry, says he doesn't know who abandoned the robot but it was a mean thing to do and it upsets him. Winnie tells him that just the thought of being abandoned alone on a strange planet creeps her out. Alfred looks into his coffee and says he heard that there are a lot of robots and things they don't even know about, so he wants to go out a bit more and make friends with as many of them as he can. Henk says that's good to hear, but they should also learn about what's happening on ''this'' planet.

He walks over to turn the television on, and it opens to a news channel. The newscaster says that mount Lawson [maybe?] on Sinatra islands started it's volcanic activity five days ago, and is causing much concern. It was believed to be extinct, and it's activities mystify the world's scientists. Furthermore, the volcano is throwing up big flames and there's no lava or smoke coming out of it. Since there's no damage or danger anticipated on the island, thousands of tourists are crowding into the area for the spectacular nightly view of the volcano, causing all the island's hotels to be booked full already. The television shows footage of an "eruption", which resembles a constant stream of fireworks, and a large crowd watching it. While the newscaster explains that, in fact, the size of the crowd is beginning to create serious problems for the island, Alfred's phone rings. Alfred goes to answer and Henk turns down the volume, and Von Paljas asks if Alfred saw the news. Alfred says he's watching right now and Von Paljas asks if he wants to come there, and Alfred says he'd love to. After finishing the call, Alfred explains to Henk and Winnie that Von Paljas is going to do some research on the volcano.

At Von Paljas' backyard, the windmill takes off, Alfred looking out of the window and Winnie and Henk waving at him. However after passing the house's height, the rotor suddendly starts sputtering out, worrying Winnie and Henk. They then screamnand run as the windmill crashes to the ground in an almost-freefall. It bounces off the ground similiarly to earlier, and Alfred and Von Paljas are on the bottom floor again. When the shaking stops they start getting up, and Alfred asks what was it about. Von Paljas says the devices must be malfunctioning. Alfred says that the same thing happened when they returned from space, and angrily asks if Von Paljas has skipped maintenance, and he says he's been pretty busy. Alfred glares at him.

Later on, it's evening and they're traveling on a large ship. They look over the railing and, and Von Paljas says that it's nice to travel by ship. Alfred agrees, after all there isn't any big hurry because no damage has been done to Sinatra. Von Paljas is happy that he'll be able to see for himself how an extinct volcano becomes active again. Alfred asks if he has any idea about why it rectivated and when Von Paljas says no, asks if this sort of thing has happened before. Von Paljas explains that an extinct volcano is kind of dead, and Alfred worriedly asks what if the volcano wasn't actually dead but just dormant. Von Paljas says that's Sinatra's volcano was completely extinct, but Alfred points out that it's erupting now. Von Paljas says that's the mystery, and the reason for his investigation.

Some days later during the day, Von Paljas runs down the ship's corridor calling Alfred's name. He runs into Alfred's cabin to tell him that they've got a visual on Sinatra, and both run to the deck. Alfred says he can't see any fire, but Von Paljas says that they can't be seen during daytime. Additionally, there's no smoke rising from the crater so eruptions are hard to see before evening. They watch Sinatra as the ship approaches it, full of trees and the volcano right in the middle. Captain Stoppel walks over, asking Von Paljas if he can come to see the crater too. Von Paljas tells him he can but that there's not much to see, and Stoppel explains that he's curious. Von Paljas says that he's welcome if he can walk.

On the island, a monkey is waiting as the ship stops and two sailors take Alfred, Von Paljas, and Stoppel to the pier in a motorboat. They toss a rope to a dog who ties it to a fence, and they then climb up the hill. Stoppel fans himself with his hat and Alfred complains about how hot it is and Stoppel says they're wearing too much clothes. The moneky walks over and introduces himself as Alem Palem, the island's governor. Von Paljas thanks him for coming to receive them and asks if they could be taken to the volcano right away. Palem says he'd be glad to do that, but suggests they take a rest first.

At a hotel, they sit on a balcony with drinks and Alfred calls the island lovely. Von Paljas agrees, and asks Palem why he says they can't get closer to the mountain without permission from Nikiloko Poen. Palem explains that mount Lawson is located within the area personally owned by Nikiloko, in fact he owns almost one-third of Sinatra and he's virtually the lord of the island. Palem tells Von Paljas they will get nothing unless he pays him, and Alfred says he sounds like a bad man. Palem suggests that they stay at the hotel tonight, and start early in the morning. Von Paljas agrees, and Palem rises from his seat and asks Von Paljas to come to negotiate with Nikiloko.

In the evening, Alfred and Stoppel watch with the tourist crowd as the volcano erupts in the same fireworks-like display that was seen in the news. Alfred calls it wonder and Stoppel says it looks like a fireworks display, which Alfred agrees with. Von Paljas arrives, calling Nikiloko a shark and saying he chraged them a lot of money. Alfred worriedly asks how much, but Von Paljas tells him not to worry about it. The volcano erupts loudly and Von Paljas turns to look, calling the view nice. He wonders aloud how can an extinct volcano become so active, saying that he must find out.

In the morning Von Paljas and Stoppel travel through the jungle, carried in a small wood seat on an anthro elephant's back. Stoppel comments on how comfortable the ride is and says they're really traveling in style. He looks over the edge and tells Alfred to come have a ride too. Alfred is walking with Palem and declines, saying he's alright and that Dtoppel needs to save his energy for some mountain climbing. Stoppel laughs and asks what is Alfred talking about, he's still young.

At the foot of the mountain they leave the elephant who waves them goodbye, and begin the climb. Stoppel is quickly exhausted and gets left behind, but nobody notices and he keeps going, telling himself he's still young. He then collapses into sitting position, mumbling that he's finished. Alfred rushes over to ask if he's alright and he chokes out that he's a seaman, not used to mountains. Alfred tells Von Paljas they need to take a rest and Von Paljas agrees, saying he's also a bit tired. Palem tells him there's some level ground a bit further ahead, and Von Paljas asks Stoppel if he can carry on. Stoppel gets up slowly and says he's all right, and Alfred walks with him.

At the resting spot, Von Paljas hands a water bottle to Stoppel sitting next to him. Stoppel thanks him, saying that he should have stayed below. Von Paljas says that it's his curiosity that got the better of him, and Stoppel says that since he's come this far, he'll certainly go to the top. He starts drinking while Alfred and Palem stand around, Alfred staring at the mountain with his brows furrowed. Palem asks what's the problem and Alfred says that it's puzzling, since volcanic activity usually brings earthquakes and tremors. However, there's just nothing happening there on Sinatra. Palem tells him that though there are no earthquakes, they do hear rumblings. Alfred says he hears nothing, and Palem explains you need to be quite close to the mountain and the rumblings don't come often. Alfred asks what Palem is going to do if the volcanic activity still carries on, and Palem says he has no plans. No damage has been done to their people or their property, however it seems like Nikiloko is planning to turn the volcano into another tourist spot by building a railway and path up the slope, right to the top. Alfred scowls in anger, saying that then he'll charge well for admission. Palem says that it's obvious. Suddendly there's a loud noise from the volcano, scaring Palem, Alfred, Stoppel, and Von Paljas. Palem tells Alfred it's the rumbling he talked about, and Alfred says it really sounds like somebody's growling. It suddendly stops and just when Alfred's noting that, there's the usual fireworks eruption accompanied by loud noises. The expedition party and Palem's local equipment carriers are terrified.

Later at the top, Stoppel approaches the crater's edge and Alfred tells him to be careful. Stoppel walks right to the edge and sees the crater filled with mist, commenting on how deep it is. He takes another step and says he can't see much, when suddendly the cliff breaks from under his foot. He screams and falls, and is left hanging from the edge by his fingers. Alfred screams his name and rushes over, somehow managing to pull Stoppel out despite being much smaller. The others sigh in relief and Stoppel says he was so frightened, while Alfred angrily tells him it was a close shave and he had just warned him to be careful! Stoppel apologises when the rumbling suddendly starts again. Alfred screams for everybody to run and they take shelter behind nearby rocks as the fire shoots out. Except for Von Paljas, who's standing right next to the pillar of fire and calling the eruption wonderful.

Alfred peers out from behind the rock and runs over to Von Paljas, who's lying on the ground examining a rock and calling the volcano with no lava amazing. After the eruption ends he licks the rock as Alfred looks on and the rest of the climbers approach. Alfred asks if he has found anything at all, and he admits he hasn't yet. He gets up and walks to the edge, asking Alfred to bring him the rope. The rope is right at the crater's edge and when rushing to get it, Alfred trips on it and falls screaming into the crater. Von Paljas and Stoppel call after him as he dissappears into the mist, and Palem and the climbers gather around. However, there's no response. Palem tells one of his monkeys (Kasim) to get another rope quickly, and he rushes to it. Von Paljas and Stoppel continue calling Alfred's name, but still get no response.

Alfred comes to,surrounded by mist and laying on something red. He opens his eyes slowly and wonders aloud what happened to him, then springing up as he remembers hefell into the crater. He notices he's not hurt at all and pats the surface he's lying on, confused when he notices it's not rock. He's startled by a small roar and sees something in the fog, and screams when it turns, roaring, and he realizes it's a dragon. It breathes fire right at Alfred, sending him flying off it's back and running in terror. However Alfred suddendly notices the "fire" has no heat at all, and the dragon starts breathing fire in another direction. Alfred, now standing on the ground next to it, watches the dragon breathe fire in different directions. He tells it he doesn't understand what it's saying, but asks if there's anything he can do. The dragon breathes fire upwards, and Alfred notices there's a large boulder that's pinning down it's tail. The dragon slumps against the wall pitifully and Alfred tries to push the boulder, but it's too large and heavy and he gives up. Alfred promises it he'll get help and he'll be right back, before starting to climb the crater's wall.

Von Paljas says that it's his curiosity that got the better of him, and Stoppel says that since he's come this far, he'll certainly go
to the top. He starts drinking while Alfred and Palem stand around, Alfred staring at island to study the mountain with his brows furrowed.

Alfred promises it he'll get help and he'll be right back, before starting to climb the crater's wall.

arrives, calling Nikiloko a shark and saying he chraged them a lot of money.

He walks over to turn the television on, and it opens to a news channel. The newscaster says that mount [i can't make it out. Maybe Lawson?] on Sinatra islands started it's volcanic activity five days ago, and is causing much concern.

Later on, it's evening and they're traveling on a cargo large ship. They look over the railing and, and Von Paljas says that

that it's nice to travel by ship.

Von Paljas arrives

Von Paljas' windmill flues through space, and Alfred asks if it's going to be much longer.

The newscaster says that mount [i can't make it out.

Later on, it's evening and they're traveling on a cargo ship. They look over the railing and, and Von Paljas says that
