* The Asteromorphs are an advanced extraterrestrial species with truly bizarre characteristics; an enlarged brain, elongated limbs with multiple finger-like appendages, and a specialized sphincter designed for locomotion in zero gravity. To the many planet-based posthumans, they were seen as incomprehensible forces of nature...and yet they too are descendants of the human-derived Star People, specifically the ones that escaped the wrath of the Qu who so thoroughly subjugated and/or exterminated most of future humanity. Hiding within hollowed out asteroids found in the distant corners of the galaxy, they evolved into the Spacers, then finally the Asteromorphs. Due to living in a Zero-G environment, they were content living in the cosmos, developing technology and philosophy far superior to their planet-based posthuman relatives, who viewed them as incomprehensible forces of nature. This technology was put to great use when the Gravital, a metallic group of posthumans, wiped out the Second Empire of Man before attempting to wage war on the Asteromorphs. [[CurbStompBattle It didn't end well for the Gravitals]]. From there, the Asteromorphs took a more direct role in the cosmos, watching over the former Subjects and New Machines with help from their planet-based relatives, the Terrestrials. They made contact with other alien civilizations, such as the Amphicephali, defeated the Qu and even rediscovered the planet where all humans came from... Earth.
* By a billion years, mankind went extinct. But how did something as powerful as the Asteromorph civilization vanish? A final, unimaginable war of annihilation, one that transcended the very meaning of "conflict"? A gradual break-up of the united galaxies, and every race facing their private end slowly afterwards? Or perhaps, the wildest theories suggest, a mass migration to another plane of existence. A journey into somewhere, sometime, something else... Which is what happened to the Asteromorphs. After a time, the empire began to wane, and a select number of colonies ventured through a wormhole, hoping to find a new home in the universe. Their journey led them to a mysterious planet, much larger than Earth, inhabited by a plethora of people and creatures far beyond the imagination. These Asteromorphs realized that most of the creatures were humans, their ancestors from eons long past... but the people of the Pantheon were initially hesitant of the new arrivals. Before a full-scale war was ushered, the colonies were visited by an angelic being in white and gold. Her name was Cosmos, and she came to speak peacefully with the newcomers, offering them a place in the Pantheon. The Asteromorphs, mature enough to meet without quarrelling, spoke on equal terms with Cosmos. They were given a place among the asteroid belt orbiting the Pantheon's outer limits, where they could continue living in peace. In return, they offered to aid the GUAG against any threats to their new home.
* The Asteromorphs are a powerful and somewhat aloof, not getting too involved in the lesser races. Following the Gravital's genocide they've become more pro-active, deciding to help out "lesser races" if they feel needed. They're consciously trying to not be condescending about it when they felt the presence of a single Xeelee ship near one of their colonies, it alone being more advanced than anything in their already formidable civilization. The Xeelee told stories of a version of humanity called the Interim Coalition of Governance, which to put it lightly was one of the most horrific, misanthropic dystopias ever conceived, which is why, out of perhaps pity, they reached out for an alliance. The Asteromorphs are very much the junior members, but took this in stride as a way to check their ego. Many of their Terrestrial agents fell to hubris and started playing petty gods amongst the primitive races. Despite the trauma that post-humanity faced under an alien race, these space men aren't xenophobes and were happy to ally with multi-alien species alliances like the New Alliance Of Free Stars, or the Green Lantern Corps. With the latter, a superhuman law enforcement appeals to them, though they'll well aware their track record isn't spotless (eg: [[Pantheon/LegacyAndInfluence Sinestro]], [[StrawVulcan the original Guardians of the Universe]]). The Asteromorphs have been intrigued by Group 1 as they are from a distant (by most human standards, [[TimeAbyss not theirs]]) future where humans developed psychic powers, potentially making them a missing link.
* Because the Asteromorphs are designed to live in space, they can't enter the embassies of the GUAG without mechanical support. This need for support isn't too different from the Slylandro, a friendly race of [[LivingGasbag balloon-esque aliens]] who float in gas giants and were happy to see a race like the Asteromorphs ascend. They are an extremely intelligent species, potentially on par with the Coluans that Brainiac belongs to. They're nicer than most Coluans, so naturally they look at Brainiac with disdain. The man has a 12th level-intellect, a brilliance [[YouCouldHaveUsedYourPowersForGood that could've enlightened the cosmos]], but he chooses to be a ControlFreak at least as bad as the Qu who tries to put the universe in a bottle. [[TheSociopath Much as he's capable of it]], Brainiac does muse the Asteromorphs are surprisingly intelligent for descendants of a race [[PunyEarthlings he dismisses as weak and undeveloped]]. Their time visiting the GUAG involved discussing ways to combat hostile aliens such as the Anti-Spiral and the Combine, the former of which seems concerned by a being with potential Spiral Power in their possession. They felt that was hypocritical given they themselves are an even more advanced, self-modified race. Personally the Asteromorphs are somewhat fond of Team Dai-Gurren for their demonstration of human determination while learning the right lesson from the hypothesis of the Spiral Nemesis.
* "Indomitable" is a word that the Doctor has ascribed to ''homo sapiens'', and it is a major aspect as to why he (sometimes she) believes HumansAreSpecial. [[HumansAreFlawed He's not above deriding their failings, especially in his darker moments]], but in general he is impressed by them. The story of ''Literature/AllTomorrows'' was a compelling one and he holds a healthy amount of respect for the Asteromorphs, though he also hopes they do not fall into a lot of the decadence and hypocrisy that his own race, the Time Lords, have often fallen to. Said Time Lords noted the Astermorphs are almost a "missing link" between advanced humans and a race that could be comparable to themselves. Rassilon and Omega are aware their race is still significantly more advanced than the Asteromorphs, but see potential...something they worry about. The Asteromorphs fear them to a degree because for all their power they have yet to master time travel, and scant few races in the multiverse are as good at time travel as the residents of Gallifrey. Also worth noting is that like the Asteromorphs, Time Lords are also a result of long-term genetic engineering. The former believes they could at least develop something akin to regeneration in order to prolong their race; [[MultipleChoicePast one of the explanations given is bound to be repeatable]].
* The most prominent feature on their body is [[MyBrainIsBig their gigantic brain]]. By the time they defeated the Gravitals their brains developed the ability to act as a wing-like shape, allowing them to fly with their own gray matter and no longer need their propulsion. Given the rest of their bodies have become almost redundant, some believe they may become a BrainMonster in the future. If so they would certainly be more benevolent than [[WesternAnimation/{{Futurama}} a certain other species of flying brains]], who feel compelled to know everything [[AbsoluteXenophobe but hate every other race]] with equal at minimum intensity as the Qu. The super-intelligence of the Asteromorphs causes regular Brainspawn to reel from pain whenever their Dyson Spheres are in sight, so to stupify Asteromorph colonies they have to [[ZergRush assault en masse]] with a Colossal Brain as commander. Stupefaction is particularly devastating to the Asteromorphs, as their empire require superhuman intellect to function at all. The Nibblonians sent out Nibbler to meet the Asteromorphs, dryly musing that for a species who's claim to fame was the invention of the pizza bagel, their descendants have done remarkably well for themselves. His kind has been fighting beings like the Brainspawn, and to a lesser extent the Qu since the Big Bang itself, so he wanted to ally with them in the name of Eternium. The post-humans agreed without a fuss.
* Modern day humans are quite welcome to study and try to understand the way of the Asteromorph, a fact their lesser Terrestrial sub-species can get quite haughty about. The USS Enterprise and Deep Space 9 crew regularly open up communication, though many of the things the Asteromorph talks about is incomprehensible. Though not seeing them nearly as advanced enough to be proper allies, they respect their spirit of discovery and co-operation. They also like the Blorg Commonality, or at least like their friendliness and open-mindedness for other races. Personally they find them kind of annoying and haven't proven themselves to be great friends of theirs, but a nice and approachable alien is good as far as they're concerned. Occasionally they will have friendly chats with the Moon God and Dr Manhattan, noting they are individuals who have ascended to a god-like status as they as a race have...except they're above even them. The former mentions he has created life like they have, though it didn't work out as well.
* Interactions between the Asteromorphs and Imperium is...interesting, to say the least. The former aren't impressed by [[AbsoluteXenophobe the rampant xenophobia]], musing that humanity had a comparably bad time with xenos in their universe but they did not become as aggressive. Of course, humanity and its descendants in their universe have been around ''significantly'' longer, and Chaos is not a thing they have ever had to worry about, so they feel it's unfair to bring up the FreudianExcuseIsNoExcuse argument to condemn them. They seem more reasonable than the Gravitals for what it's worth. The Imperium of Mankind was shocked to learn something as alien as the Asteromorphs, and the variety of posthumans were, in fact, evolved humans. The mindset of the human genome being sacred makes it a heated debate on whether they should tolerate and understand their evolutionary cousins, or consider them dangerous. Under most circumstances they'd probably default to the latter, but relatively cooler heads prevailed; the Emperor doesn't exactly trust the Asteromorphs, but recognizes them as one of the most reliable not quite humans. For now they will be allies rather than rivals, and the Asteromorphs intend to keep it that way as they believe the Imperium could become a lot more effective by focusing on the bigger picture.
* The Asteromorphs are generally seen as BenevolentPrecursors, not to the extent of the Chozo but the spirit of a big ancient race protecting the newcomers and survivors of the Gravital genocide, and helping post-humanity flourish is certainly something they look favorably one. However an argument could be made that they have a sinister guide, having practiced slavery and ultimately committing genocide against the Gravitals...in fairness, they were far worse in that aspect but they did make their descendants servants for a time and didn't do much to dissuade prejudice towards the New Machines for the Gravitals' sins. Some critics even argue [[NotSoDifferentRemark they are an optimistic path the Imperium could evolve into]]. Their more amoral and somewhat detached behavior is why they're considered True Neutral instead of, say Neutral Good. Ganthet can see some of the Old Guardians of the Universe he belonged to, before they really started to fall, noting even back when they were benevolent they had a lot of skeletons in the closet. He still works with them, in part because of some {{Realpolitik}} between the Green Lantern Corps and the Asteromorphs, and in part he can still see much of what he still valued in his kind.
* Celebrations among their kind were cut short when they learned the ''Qu'' had managed to escape to the Trope Pantheon, defying the subjugation that was imposed on them for their millions of years of crimes against humanity and other sentient races. Though the Asteromorphs and Gravitals were in a brutal war, the latter being reduced to a ServantRace, the "New Machines" were eventually given equal rites (though they were still seen with scorn because of their ancestors' crimes). The Qu, however? [[UncertainDoom Subjugated, possibly exterminated]]. What kind of justice was brought about to those xenos isn't clear, but seeing the Qu double down and join up with other likeminded aliens convinced the Asteromorphs what happened the Qu wasn't enough. Some alien ''individuals'' proved worthy of contempt. For example, Black Doom and Lavos; the former [[ToServeMan sees Earthlings as food]], the latter initially seemed like a NonMaliciousMonster at first but proved to have a comprehensible, spiteful intellect that manipulated evolution on a planet as part of its "[[PlanetaryParasite lifecycle]]".
* Though clearly victorious in their war with the Gravitals it has left them to take a watchful eye on those that remind them of the Gravitals. Despite all the horrible things they did the Gravitals were, at their core, still human. They had jobs, families, hobbies, and yet the vast majority of them were simply incapable of seeing other post-human life as valid. Now imagine if they had all their power or even more, but with the virtues of ancestral humanity stomped out. This is perhaps what they see in the Daleks and Cybermen. Both are descendants of a human-looking race who's quest to survive led to physical alterations and elimination of supposed weaknesses. For Cybermen, this was emotion period and they are obsessed with converting other humanoids into themselves. For the Daleks, this was all positive emotion, but hatred and racial supremacy was ''focused'' thanks in large part to "a man who was king of his own little world". The Cybermen want the Asteromorph's brains, [[AbsoluteXenophobe the Daleks simply want their corpses]]. Unfortunately for the Asteromorphs, unless they're in dire straits like recovering from a near-extinction those hostile xenos have the upper hand[[note]]time travel's a broken ability against those who don't have it[[/note]]. The Borg are similar to the Cybermen in that they believe rather than eliminate them, the Asteromorphs should be assimilated. Able to think in ideas and concepts incomprehensible to rest of post-humanity, the threat a single converted Asteromorph alone is formidable.
* SHODAN's boasts of her own superiority over humanity, [[AGodAmI seeing herself as a god]] is a laughable delusion to the Asteromorphs. They have seen [[MechanicalAbomination the Gravitals]] and their rampage, and after dealing with them they aren't impressed by the grandstanding of the AI. With her view that HumansAreInsects, something the existence the Asteromorphs massively contradict, they have a decisive viewpoint on her; an insecure narcissist [[AGodAmI who proclaims herself a kami]] to run from the truth that it was those very "insignificant humans" that gave her life. The Vex are an AI they hold with more concern, as they are beings who wish to redefine the very nature of the universe itself to better suit themselves. And they do it with zealotry not too dissimilar to the Qu...not something these space people like. In terms of individual AI, they have more of an issue with AM. Not necessarily that he is more of a threat, but because [[FateWorseThanDeath what he does to human survivors]] reminds them of those who suffered the worst under the Qu. They hold some pity for the Five Survivors, and the Chimeras for good measure.
* Not all that fond of jokes confusing the Qu for the Q. For the most part, Q is considered tolerable by them even if they are wary of his power individually exceeding their empires; the Asteromorphs seem god-like to most races, but RealityWarper they are not. Rather, given the grave injustices the Qu caused, they find these jokes poor taste. They have more of a sense of humor with the time traveler mentioning if they have ever dealt with a Morlock-Eloi like dynamic in their past. Having traveled across the future, he has seen what humanity could evolve into but never saw humanity's descendants go as far into deep time as the Asteromorphs, who exist at least 560 million years into the future[[note]]for comparison, the Time Traveler is closer in time to the Cambrian Explosion[[/note]]. Their designs have interested Princess Bubblegum, as she has created her own form of life via the Candy People. Despite the crimes of the Qu the Asteromorphs have no reprehension over the activities of the Hall of Pantheon/GeneticEngineering, and are personally interested in those claiming to be the ultimate life-form. Shadow and Mewtwo are intriguing takes on this concept. Additionally, the Decepticons, particularly Shockwave, find their technology interesting.
* Consider [[Pantheon/CyberneticsAndEnhancements Dr Gero]] to be a waste of a brain. He managed to create Cell, a PersonOfMassDestruction intended as the perfect being and with the genetics to back that up. However he is concerned with petty vendettas [[CutLexLuthorACheck when he could have helped uplifted mankind]]. Cell is an unstable psychopath, which they find as unfortunate since if Gero had focused on less sadistic means of powering him up and avoided letting unsavory personality traits from his donors become dominant, [[YouCouldHaveUsedYourPowersForGood he could've become helpful]]. The Bio-Android finds this wishfulness comical and feels like flexing his power on them by blowing up one of their star systems, [[{{Hypocrite}} as he finds their haughtiness annoying]]. He also thinks it's ridiculous they claim to be so advanced yet if they were on a planet with gravity they'd flop as bad as a jellyfish on land. The Asteromorphs just chose not to fall for the bait. In addition, they are intrigued by Doomsday as a being who can survive any environment and adapts to whatever previously killed him. Its violent origins have made the beast [[OmnicidalManiac hostile to all other life]] so any intrigue was met with roars...again, seen as an unfortunate waste by these human-descended beings.
* Their disappointment towards Dr Gero is something the latter couldn't care about, nor did they expect him. However they do note [[Anime/DragonBallSuperSuperHero his grandson Dr Hedo]] is a marked improvement, being a lot more level-headed and wise in his decisions. Nowadays he works with Bulma, though he is still somewhat amoral. Bulma was fascinated by the Asteromorphs and they were impressed, albeit modestly, by the intelligence and skill a regular human has demonstrated. Predictably Zamasu is disgusted by Asteromorphs for playing God and being powerful mortals, and equally as predictably they condemn his actions as one of a psychopathic hypocrite [[PsychologicalProjection who projects what he refuses to admit about himself]] onto everyone else. On a lighter note, another scientist they seem to appreciate is Azmuth, due to his creation of the Omnitrix. The Galvans are somewhat similar to the Asteromorphs in being arguably the smartest species around with a large (albeit not as extreme) brain, and the Asteromorphs see great potential in it and Ben Tennyson's wielding of the Omnitrix. The ability to "live a mile in another's shoes" and preserve the genetics of millions of species is a definite plus.

* Jenny Wakeman finds herself fighting off many of the Mantis’ kind quite often after an incident involving a band of thieves being bold enough to conduct raids on the House of Pantheon/{{Technology}}. It’s sort of reminiscent of her battles with the Cluster, an alien race of bug-like robots that have frequently tried to invade and conquer Earth and have fought against their ruler, Queen Vexus, many different times. When Jenny finally found herself on their homeworld, Cluster Prime, she ended up kickstarting a revolution that overthrew Vexus and her cronies. One has to wonder if there’s something similar happening with the Mantis behind the scenes while the rest of the galaxy is preoccupied with the Rebels and the ensuing chaos. Even if they’re not mechanical, they're persistent enough of a threat to remain that way.
