* Two young girls were kidnapped by their father, who killed their mother and his associates after losing his money and job in a stock market crash. He takes them to a cabin in the woods, intent on killing his little girls before offing himself. This would not come to pass; the father was suddenly attacked and killed by a mysterious entity that took notice of the two girls and decided to raise and protect them herself. The girls, Victoria and Lily Desange, are found five years later and are in the process of being taken under by their uncle and aunt, Lucas and Annabel who intend to rehabilitate and improve the mental state of the girls after seeing their isolation [[WildChild left them feral and reclusive]]. Unfortunately, this information wasn't taken well by the entity, whom Victoria and Lily call "Mama", who would stalk and take the time to take her girls back as well as brutally kill anyone who got in her way.
** As Annabel would later find out, "Mama" was once Edith Brennan, a 19th-century patient from St. Gertrude's Asylum who had her baby taken away from her. In rage and anguish, she sought to take her child back, killing a nun in the process, causing her to be chased to a cliff by a mob. In desperation, Edith jumped off the cliff but was caught in midair by a tree branch, snagging and killing her baby and leaving Edith to fall and drown in a lake. Returning as a ghost, she searched for her baby's body to no avail, causing her fractured sanity to dwindle further into feral madness and rage. Furthermore, Victoria coming to see Annabel and Lucas as her new parental guardians caused Edith to fly into jealousy and unease, causing her to attack the two in her attempt to take back who she saw as her daughters. After a grueling chase leading back to the cliff where she died, Edith would be reunited with the corpse of her biological child, seemingly accepting its death before Lily's call drove her back to wanting her new child and injuring their aunt and uncle when they tried to interfere. In the end, Edith was able to take Lily with her while Victoria opted to remain with Lucas and Annabel. The mother and daughter took a second plunge with both hitting the branch and dissolving into a flock of moths, with Edith finally accepting her fate while Lily seemed to reincarnate as a blue moth watching over her older sister.
* With her tale in the mortal realms coming to an end, Edith would eventually find another life, it just so happened that it would be far more different from the world she inhabited. Unfortunately for her, she still retained her ghostly form and shape as well as her feral and vicious nature. That said, she wasn't alone, for Lily had joined alongside the ghastly mother in becoming a resident of the Pantheon, with Lily being her "mama's" herald and Edith herself being content with at least having one of her children to look after. Befitting of their tale and background, the duo chose to dwell in an undisclosed forest in the divine realms as their personal herald, with Edith doing anything she could to provide for her surrogate daughter. Still, she would develop her own reputation in the Pantheon for inspiring a couple of ghost stories about someone lurking in the forests during evening and nighttime with an occasional gurgle and even sobbing.
* Edith is one of the more elusive, yet polarizing ghosts in the Pantheon. On one hand, those who were unlucky enough to encounter her have noted that she was an absolutely terrifying specter who would kill her victims in an excessively brutal fashion, namely by either hugging them tight or by breaking their necks quickly or slowly depending on her anger, not to mention her abnormal limbs and her ability to contort them unnaturally as well as fly makes her even more creepy. On the other hand, she's not evil, but mainly a recluse who is only concerned with just looking after Lily, and her only real desire is to just be a decent mother, it just so happens that in addition to being a ghost, she was a mental asylum patient whose grip on reality was stunted and she's left emotional and scarred, in addition to possessing unnatural body anatomy akin to that of Marfan Syndrome, though her viciously territorial nature means that side of her is rather not often referenced by most. That said, Edith, being a mainly neutral, if still a very dangerous being, meant that she's mainly on her own in the Pantheon aside from Lily, though background details do interest a number of figures who would like to know more about her.
* Naturally, Edith's supernatural physiology meant that she was going to attract attention from those like her, especially the Hall of Pantheon/{{Ghosts}}. Though strangely enough, her isolated nature means she's closer to being in, say, the House of Pantheon/{{Nature}} than that of Pantheon/UndeadAndPhasmata, and few ghosts actually get to encounter Edith, though that may be fortunate as she doesn't take visitors kindly at all. This wouldn't stop some ghosts from at least feeling bad about her, such as Caspar, a very friendly being who would want to get along with whoever he meets. Fortunately, being intangible to physical contact means he can get away from Edith, but it doesn't stop him from being terrified at how vicious she was when he tried to approach Lily. Menma was similarly frightened by Edith, but otherwise felt bad and even shed tears when she learned of her story. She reckoned that she and Lily would make good friends, but based on her conversation with Caspar, she's too scared to even go near the woods where Edith and Lily lived. Aside from that, the desire to reunite with someone is a feeling Menma knows all too well, given her goal of wanting to reunite with her friends, the Super Peace Busters, back after her death caused a fracture between the friends, she doesn't have any animosity towards Edith and she hopes that the ghost does find peace in some way.
* Her horrifying appearance would lead others to mistake her as an evil spirit when the truth is that she's simply really territorial about her and her adopted daughter and that her appearance might have been the result of a physical health condition during her mortal life, as attested by some witnesses and those who took the time to learn about Edith. Still, it didn't stop the tortured soul from getting some comparisons to someone like King Boo, a truly malicious and vile ghost with plans for world domination. Initially, King Boo was planning on having Edith as a potential ally, but when that failed, he thought of kidnapping Lily in an attempt to forcibly coerce an alliance. The result was Edith letting out an ungodly shriek and attacking King Boo with such ferocity that the bigger ghost was taken aback and was forced to hastily retreat out of annoyance. To date, King Boo still sees this particular incident as his most embarrassing one and seeks to get back at Edith one day. On Edith's end, she does remember King Boo pretty well, but her main priority is Lily's well-being and this doesn't concern her with the evil ghost's presence that much. Dark Danny, a future incarnation of Danny Phantom is another evil ghost who lashes out at the past due to his anguish over losing his loved ones. This was surprisingly less antagonist as Dark Danny felt a little pitiful for Edith's situation and decided she wasn't worth being enemies with, though he still keeps himself off her territory as Edith's anger is one of the few things that does unnerve him to an extent.
* She's not the only ghost that is motivated by an earthly desire and the reason why she remained in the mortal realm for so long, but this did play a role in further damaging her mental state of mind, which was already fractured, to begin with. It's something she has in common with two other ghosts named Kayako Saeki and Sadako Yamamura whose reasons for being tethered to Earth even after their deaths are somewhat related; familial tragedy that ended with them emotionally crushed and dying without any personal resolution. The main difference came in motivation; Kayako and Sadako were motivated by vengeance and retribution as they were mistreated, disrespected, and then killed off whereas Edith was driven to find her child, unaware that they were latched onto the branch that hit them and would later be recovered by authorities. While the three have barely encountered each other, the comparisons between the three are frequently commented on and Kayako could at least express a small form of respect for a fellow mother who just wants to love and nurture her child, even if they would fight against each other over territorial disputes. Like Edith, Hisako is another ghost driven by love, in her case being her village and its people and while vengeful, she only targets those who directly disrespected her grave and village. Fortunately, she and Edith don't come into contact due to both of them focusing on their own matters and Hisako understanding and sympathizing with Edith's desire to just be alone with her daughter.
* Of course, being a ghost meant that some people would take interest in her tale and her status as an urban myth according to those who have ventured into the forests she claims as her territory. A good number of accounts regarding the sightings of Edith were archived by the Bedtime Stories Crew which have made a documentary about the ghost and circumstances that led her to become a feral and despondent ghoul. Of course, they are a bit hesitant to give the forests a visit, but even so, they feel that it would be for the best to just leave Edith alone. Ghost hunters have varying thoughts on Edith with some wanting to capture/eliminate her for reasons that range from either her being too dangerous to be left unchecked or to finally "rescue" Lily and make plans to rehabilitate her. The Ghostbusters got the feeling that Edith would be one of the more challenging ghosts they'd contend with if they ever met but ultimately decided against it unless something damning happens on Edith's end. Their aim is to monitor ghosts and while Edith is someone to keep checks on, they figured that trying to capture her would not end well either for them or for Lily. Luigi also has a lot of experience in capturing ghosts, but otherwise tends to be fearful about them for the most part and he thought Mama was one of the scariest ghosts he has seen. That said, he did feel sad about her backstory and respected her desire to just be left alone in her home. That, and the fact that she is opposed to King Boo means that while she isn't an ally, Luigi can at least take solace that he doesn't have to deal with Edith directly and wishes the best for her and Lily.
* While incredibly violent, there is a clear indication that Edith is a victim of some form of mental and physical illness that rendered her rather frail and damaged in more than just appearances. And it wasn't just that either; her environment and being put in a mental asylum furthered her crippling health, not helped by the fact that this was in the 19th century when mental health wasn't just poorly understood, but we're even treated as taboos and the patients treated horrendously as the symptoms were seen as curses and diseases that were to be cured through vicious means. That said, her current nature and physique as a ghost means she doesn't have much concern for the House of Pantheon/MadnessAndInsanity as they're far away from her designated home ground and there's really no place of interest for the ghost. On the other hand, those working in the House express some interest in Edith, whom they see as having symptoms of Marfan Syndrome thanks to her elongated and frail physique even back in her mortal shell, and would like to learn more about that aspect of her if they could. That said, they're aware that it's not a wise move to go to Mama's residence, as attested by her victims whom she maims and slaughters with extreme violence, though that's not going to stop some rather brave or overconfident psychologists from trying anyway.
* As a tragic being whose feral behavior and ghostly nature were because of actions and events out of her control, Edith is usually given pity and sympathy by some deities and residents in the Pantheon, though trying to bond and connect with her over that matter is next-to-impossible. There are some villainous figures, such as [[Pantheon/{{Upbringing}} Charles zi Brittania]], [[Pantheon/ReligiousPractice Bishop Mozgus]], and [[Pantheon/FamilyDynamics Darth Vader]] who have had their actions influenced by wanting to provide for their children in some capacity, even if they did end up causing them harm in some way, but knew that an alliance with Edith was pointless as she simply has no interest and their ambitions would be something she would have trouble either understanding or putting focus on. Additionally, the [[Pantheon/OptimismAndPessimism Dracula of Hotel Transylvania]] understands why Edith is so embittered and would even give her an invitation to his hotel in an effort to make her feel welcomed and accepted, but quickly realizes that would be difficult as Edith only just wants to tend to her field, cabin and Lily and seems to have trouble adjusting to anywhere else outside her territory. Returning as a ghost, she searched for her baby's body to no avail, causing her fractured sanity to dwindle further into feral madness and rage. Furthermore, Victoria coming to see Annabel and Lucas as her new parental guardians caused Edith to fly into jealousy and unease, causing her to attack the two in her attempt to take back who she saw as her daughters. After a grueling chase leading back to the cliff where she died, Edith would be reunited with the corpse of her biological child, seemingly accepting its death before Lily's call drove her back to wanting her new child and injuring their aunt and uncle when they tried to interfere. In the end, Edith was able to take Lily with her while Victoria opted to remain with Lucas and Annabel. The mother and daughter took a second plunge with both hitting the branch and dissolving into a flock of moths, with Edith finally accepting her fate while Lily seemed to reincarnate as a blue moth watching over her older sister.

On one hand, those who were unlucky enough to encounter her have noted that she was an absolutely terrifying specter who would kill her victims in an excessively brutal fashion, namely by either hugging them tight or by breaking their necks quickly or slowly depending on her anger, not to mention her abnormal limbs and her ability to contort them unnaturally as well as fly makes her even more creepy. On the other hand, she's not evil, but mainly a recluse who is only concerned with just looking after Lily, and her only real desire is to just be a decent mother, it just so happens that in addition to being a ghost, she was a mental asylum patient whose grip on reality was stunted and she's left emotional and scarred, in addition to possessing unnatural body anatomy akin to that of Marfan Syndrome, though her viciously territorial nature means that side of her is rather not often referenced by most. That said, Edith, being a mainly neutral, if still a very dangerous being, meant that she's mainly on her own in the Pantheon aside from Lily, though background details do interest a number of figures who would like to know more about her.

Though strangely enough, her isolated nature means she's closer to being in, say, the House of Pantheon/{{Nature}} than that of Pantheon/UndeadAndPhasmata, and few ghosts actually get to encounter Edith, though that may be fortunate as she doesn't take visitors kindly at all. This wouldn't stop some ghosts from at least feeling bad about her, such as Caspar, a very friendly being who would want to get along with whoever he meets. Fortunately, being intangible to physical contact means he can get away from Edith, but it doesn't stop him from being terrified at how vicious she was when he tried to approach Lily. Menma was similarly frightened by Edith, but otherwise felt bad and even shed tears when she learned of her story. She reckoned that she and Lily would make good friends, but based on her conversation with Caspar, she's too scared to even go near the woods where Edith and Lily lived. Aside from that, the desire to reunite with someone is a feeling Menma knows all too well, given her goal of wanting to reunite with her friends, the Super Peace Busters, back after her death caused a fracture between the friends, she doesn't have any animosity towards Edith and she hopes that the ghost does find peace in some way.
* Her horrifying appearance would lead others to mistake her as an evil spirit when the truth is that she's simply really territorial about her and her adopted daughter and that her appearance might have been the result of a physical health condition during her mortal life, as attested by some witnesses and those who took the time to learn about Edith. Still, it didn't stop the tortured soul from getting some comparisons to someone like King Boo, a truly malicious and vile ghost with plans for world domination. Initially, King Boo was planning on having Edith as a potential ally, but when that failed, he thought of kidnapping Lily in an attempt to forcibly coerce an alliance. The result was Edith letting out an ungodly shriek and attacking King Boo with such ferocity that the bigger ghost was taken aback and was forced to hastily retreat out of annoyance. To date, King Boo still sees this particular incident as his most embarrassing one and seeks to get back at Edith one day. On Edith's end, she does remember King Boo pretty well, but her main priority is Lily's well-being and this doesn't concern her with the evil ghost's presence that much. Dark Danny, a future incarnation of Danny Phantom is another evil ghost who lashes out at the past due to his anguish over losing his loved ones. This was surprisingly less antagonist as Dark Danny felt a little pitiful for Edith's situation and decided she wasn't worth being enemies with, though he still keeps himself off her territory as Edith's anger is one of the few things that does unnerve him to an extent.
* She's not the only ghost that is motivated by an earthly desire and the reason why she remained in the mortal realm for so long, but this did play a role in further damaging her mental state of mind, which was already fractured, to begin with. It's something she has in common with two other ghosts named Kayako Saeki and Sadako Yamamura whose reasons for being tethered to Earth even after their deaths are somewhat related; familial tragedy that ended with them emotionally crushed and dying without any personal resolution. The main difference came in motivation; Kayako and Sadako were motivated by vengeance and retribution as they were mistreated, disrespected, and then killed off whereas Edith was driven to find her child, unaware that they were latched onto the branch that hit them and would later be recovered by authorities. While the three have barely encountered each other, the comparisons between the three are frequently commented on and Kayako could at least express a small form of respect for a fellow mother who just wants to love and nurture her child, even if they would fight against each other over territorial disputes. Like Edith, Hisako is another ghost driven by love, in her case being her village and its people and while vengeful, she only targets those who directly disrespected her grave and village. Fortunately, she and Edith don't come into contact due to both of them focusing on their own matters and Hisako understanding and sympathizing with Edith's desire to just be alone with her daughter.
* Of course, being a ghost meant that some people would take interest in her tale and her status as an urban myth according to those who have ventured into the forests she claims as her territory. A good number of accounts regarding the sightings of Edith were archived by the Bedtime Stories Crew which have made a documentary about the ghost and circumstances that led her to become a feral and despondent ghoul. Of course, they are a bit hesitant to give the forests a visit, but even so, they feel that it would be for the best to just leave Edith alone. Ghost hunters have varying thoughts on Edith with some wanting to capture/eliminate her for reasons that range from either her being too dangerous to be left unchecked or to finally "rescue" Lily and make plans to rehabilitate her. The Ghostbusters got the feeling that Edith would be one of the more challenging ghosts they'd contend with if they ever met but ultimately decided against it unless something damning happens on Edith's end. Their aim is to monitor ghosts and while Edith is someone to keep checks on, they figured that trying to capture her would not end well either for them or for Lily. Luigi also has a lot of experience in capturing ghosts, but otherwise tends to be fearful about them for the most part and he thought Mama was one of the scariest ghosts he has seen. That said, he did feel sad about her backstory and respected her desire to just be left alone in her home. That, and the fact that she is opposed to King Boo means that while she isn't an ally, Luigi can at least take solace that he doesn't have to deal with Edith directly and wishes the best for her and Lily.
