* And InUniverse, Vimes [[spoiler: possessed by the Summoning Dark]] rapidly becomes this to the dark dwarfs at the end. At this point Sam Vimes is lost in the dark just as 6:00 pm rolls around and is having a HeroicBSOD at not being able to read to Young Sam. They find him lurching out of the dark and roaring "WHERE IS MY COW" at the top of his lungs. This abomination as far as they're concerned starts killing their heavily armed and armoured bodyguards, all the while screaming what is to them complete nonsense. Eventually it has killed everyone but the unarmed Grags, is covered in blood, and only stops from killing them through sheer willpower. It is then tackled by a werewolf.

** With the Summoning Dark living on his wrist, raging for vengeance, it's entirely possible that Vimes ''didn't'' knock that candle over entirely by accident, either...

A few seconds of darkness later, he's dead, and the Thud pieces on the board have formed the shape of the Summoning Dark. All because Vimes lost his temper at Colon. And while he certainly didn't touch Helmclever, he didn't touch the dwarf that went after Sam, either...

The vagueness invites so many horrific contemplations... especially when we're told that Commander Vimes, notorious for his refusal to kill even the worst criminal if he can avoid it because that's murder rather than justice, went berserk and almost slaughtered them upon finally catching them. If Detritus hadn't been there to stop him, he'd have broken his code without thinking to kill them all. So just ''what did they do?!''
