* The sheer air of hopelessness in this episode is equal parts [[TearJerker depressing]] and creepy. Team RWBY has been more or less unbeatable throughout the series up to this point, but Torchwick and Neo completely and utterly wipe the floor with them near-effortlessly in a matter of minutes. Then there's the chainsaw-wielding maniac with a deep raspy voice who, after getting nearly beaten by Weiss, suddenly grabs her face, slams her on the ground, and throws her in the air. Worse thing is, it cuts to the next scene right when he's seemingly about to cut her in half with his chainsaw.
** *Sigh* Please don't take a scene out of context, we were explicitly told and shown in season one that Aura works "like a forcefield", it's clear that Weiss was NOT going to be cut in half. Also, Torchwick got decimated by Blake in this episode, not the other way around.
*** Still doesn't make it any less horrible. Also Auras can and do run out over prelong battle. Plus the only way Torchwick got decimated was because Blake suprised him with a power boost.

* Speaking of, that whole scene was an edge-of-your-seat moment. Up until now, the girls had emerged triumphant out of everything they've come across, so as Neo stands over an unconscious and defeated Yang, blade poised to come down and finish her, it seriously looked like a main character was ''really going to die''. Especially considering it's [[CoolBigSis Yang]], who as any GenreSavvy viewer will tell you, has certain [[BigGuyFatalitySyndrome occupational]] [[MentorOccupationalHazard hazards]]. Fortunately, [[BigDamnHeroes thanks to a certain someone]], we were wrong this time, and she gets to live to fight another day.

** And still worse: they get stronger and smarter the longer they live, and can keep this up for hundreds of years. The Goliaths around Vale are already more than a match for a single hunter, and could be a major threat if provoked. And there are dozens of them. But they aren't attacking yet. They're waiting.
** Dozens? Try hundreds, or thousands, or hundreds of thousands. Remnant is a big planet, and we've only seen a handful of locations. The Grimm patrolling the borders are almost certainly a smaller part of a much greater number of Grimm.

** And still worse: they get stronger and smarter the longer they live, and can keep this up for hundreds of years. The Goliaths around Vale are already more than a match for a single hunter, and could be a major threat if provoked. And there are dozens of them. But they aren't attacking yet. They're waiting. Its also scary that a Creature with such Power are smart enough to stay away from Civilization and wait years, decades, and centuries for a Chink in their defenses to strike, That's not threatening, it's Terrifying.

** And still worse: they get stronger and smarter the longer they live, and can keep this up for hundreds of years. The Goliaths around Vale are already more than a match for a single hunter, and could be a major threat if provoked. And there are dozens of them. But they aren't attacking yet. They're waiting.

* Yang's story to Blake about her ill-fated childhood quest is a hefty dose of AdultFear. Two little children, out in the dark and cold, utterly defenceless against the waiting pack of Beowolves. A good thing Qrow showed up when he did, else Taiyang would have lost his daughters as well as his wife.

* For a tiny, cute-looking ElegantGothicLolita, Neo is pretty darn creepy. She completely and effortlessly [[CurbStompBattle Curbstomps]] Yang, all without losing the smile on her face or even [[TheVoiceless making a sound]]. [[spoiler:She gets a borderline SlasherSmile when preparing to deliver a fatal stab.]] Cute? Sure. The way her eyes flip colors every so often when she blinks? ''That'' is pure UncannyValley!
