* The sheer randomness of the game--as one Let's Player put it, it feels more like a nightmare than more mature games like ''Franchise/SilentHill'', which are designed to emulate nightmares, because at least those have structure.

* What about the TV series...? Not a lot of people have seen it, but ''Nightmare Ned'' is up there as one of the most disturbing cartoons produced by Disney. Everything about the show drips with a freakish atmosphere; the vivid colors, twisted scenery, strange music and even the characters, from their designs to their voices to how they treat Ned just screams "wrong". [[FromBadToWorse And that's not even getting into Ned's nightmares]]. Everything freaky about this world is exaggerated to Hell in Ned's nightmares, with the production team seemingly going out of their way to be as bizarre as they could. Frequently, characters in Ned's nightmares go from calm and friendly to screaming and demonic at the drop of a hat, so you have no idea who to trust. Ned's dream self is often powerless against monsters and freaks who want to kill him, mutilate him or transform him against his will, [[TheBadGuyWins and they tend to succeed worryingly often]]. Yes, [[CatapultNightmare Ned's nightmares frequently end with him dying or being mutilated]]. Sweet dreams.

* The Hospital stage. The stage starts with Ned strapped down on a table getting his organs removed and getting nasty-looking new organs put into him by a beaver that's clearly been experimented on.
** Come the next scene and Ned is rolling down a hallway still strapped down trying to avoid the mad surgeons who try and harvest his remaining organs.
** In another scene, Ned ends up in a disgusting mouth full of germs, worms, rotted teeth and a blob monster who wants to eat him.

Judging by the name '''''Nightmare''' Ned'', both the video game and the ShortRunner definitely need NightmareFuel into them.

* There’s a lot of this particularly in the Graveyard stage, one instance where you end up in a dark mausoleum where you must help a (presumably dead) little girl retrieve her nightlight from a bat, all while a piñata is painfully moaning in the background.
