* Even though it's a paranoid delusion in a hypothetical illusion, the fact that Twilight Sparkle imagined Garble grabbing Starlight Glimmer and diving into lava and believes it to be a possibility... means that Twilight Sparkle believes that Garble ''is willing to murder ponies''. That's a pretty strong vote of no confidence from the Princess of Friendship.

* The hate between Granny Smith and Grand Pear when both clans were in Ponyville can be described as petty and frivolous as can be expected with family rivalries. But when Grand Pear disowned her daughter, Pear Butter, that gave Granny Smith a ''passionate and justified'' reason to hate Grand Pear and Pears in general which is the worst kind of hatred a living being can be capable of. The reason why reconciliation is so important is because passionate and justified hatred is a truly dangerous emotion as evidenced by Granny Smith getting angry at the mention of Grand Pear or the sight of Pear products.

* While the episode in general is more or less tame and anything but scary, Twilight's visions about all the bad things that could happen to Starlight can be pretty terrifying. For example, her fears involving Starlight interacting with dragons and Sunburst; in the former case she imagines [[{{Jerkass}} Garble]] grabbing Starlight and jumping with her into lava, cutting back to Twilight's reaction just as they are about to touch it, and in the latter case she imagines Starlight and Sunburst accidentally conjuring a black hole that sucks up Starlight (and the rest of the world). Sunburst crying out to Starlight as she screams for help while being sucked into the black hole doesn't help at all.
** The changeling vision has it pretty bad, too. One rogue changeling could impersonate Starlight and turn them all against her, essentially ruining all that hard work she achieved and having her run away from a group of angry love-sucking succubi. And according to the vision, some changelings aren't opposed to using brute force on their fellow hivemates.

* The way the quarray eel silently snuck up on Maud, to the point where she didn't even notice she'd been engulfed in its sizeable maw. It doesn't help that the eel has huge, sharp teeth -- no attempt has been made to make it look cuddly or friendly.
* Maud, who [[UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom told Starlight about a stone that could contain cutie mark magic]], informs Starlight that with the right stone, she could rule all of Equestria. Now, Starlight thought that Maud was [[{{Troll}} trolling her]], but with Maud's deadpan delivery of everything, we can't really be sure. The thought that there is a stone powerful enough to do that in the hands of a powerful enough unicorn or even an alicorn...>shiver<
** Technically, we've already seen ''several'' stones that would qualify. The Elements of Harmony, the Alicorn Amulet, the Tree of Harmony itself, the Crystal Heart...
** Maud's emotionless tone of voice can be unsettling in its own right, but combine it with the dark subject matter and it heads right into a CreepyMonotone that sends chills down your spine.
--->'''Maud:''' With the right stone, you could rule all of Equestria if you wanted to.\\
'''Starlight:''' You're messing with me.\\

[[folder:Parental Glideance]]
* Scootaloo's head is very nearly run over by the equivalent of a lawn mower.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:A Royal Problem]]
* [[BewareTheNiceOnes Celestia's]] [[TranquilFury reaction]] when Starlight explains that she can't undo the cutie mark switching spell. That is ''not'' a tone of voice you want the godlike ruler of all Equestria using on you...And it's neither a good sign if she along with her sister is [[DeathGlare giving you a look that would set the landscape on fire]].
* It's bad enough if Celestia is taking to you with an ice-cold tone, but much worse is when she outright ''raises her voice in anger''. Namely during her argument with Luna. Even scarier is that this is a foreshadowing of things worse yet to come.
-->'''Luna''': DON'T PRESUME TO KNOW WHAT IT IS LIKE TO GOVERN THE DREAM REALM!\\
'''Celestia''': AND YET YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT IT'S LIKE TO BE ''ME''?! OH PUH-''LEASE''!
* Starlight's nightmare: she's so terrified that she's messed everything up and driven the sisters apart again that she dreams of being attacked by Nightmare Moon. And when Celestia tries to help Starlight [[FromBadToWorse the dream world spawns]] [[EnemyWithout Daybreaker]], a corrupted evil version of ''her''.
** The fandom has been imagining what a corrupted Celestia would be like, and she's just as terrifying as Nightmare Moon, if not more so; an alicorn gone DrunkWithPower who is strong enough to do anything she wants because she knows nopony can stop her and is willing to destroy whoever gets in her way.
--->'''Daybreaker:''' ''[to Nightmare Moon]'' I never should've banished you to the moon! ''I should've destroyed you''!
** When Daybreaker sits in Celestia's throne, the stone pillars in the throne room turn to huge columns of flame. At best, it looks a bit like the place is burning down; at worst, it gives the impression that the throne room is being transformed into FireAndBrimstoneHell to better suit its ruler.
** Daybreaker doesn't show up until Celestia has already entered Starlight's dream. Luna later confirms that "Daybreaker" is her actual name. It's very likely that that wasn't Starlight's dream we were seeing; it was ''Celestia's''.
* Before all that, Starlight's dream includes several disturbing images, including Celestia's smiley face pancakes talking at her in a CreepyMonotone, Starlight turning into the ballerina on the music box that Twilight had previously been disguised as and a giant version of Twilight herself looming over her, her eyes having turned into Celestia and Luna's cutie marks.
* Celestia brings Luna out of her nightmare and into Starlight's because Celestia doesn't know how to stop Nightmare Moon and Daybreaker's fighting. Even though it was a nightmare, Daybreaker was clearly much more powerful than Nightmare Moon, who for the most part was on the defensive against Daybreaker's attacks. Yes, Luna giving into her SuperpoweredEvilSide '''would not be enough''' to stop Celestia if she also gave into her own.
* Luna's nightmare, while less violent, is also nerve-wracking: she's surrounded by [[CreepyChild creepy pony children]] chanting at her that she doesn't know how to smile while [[TheToothHurts her teeth fall out]]. A common real-life interpretation of teeth falling out in a dream is a sign of extreme anxiety -- Luna, as a FriendToAllChildren, feels ''that'' guilty over costing those kids a field trip.
* One of the dreams Celestia sees in the dream realm is [[Series/DoctorWho Dr. Whooves having to deal with the pony equivalent to a Weeping Angel]]. That dream could very well have been a memory of the past so there's also the added terror that Weeping Angels could exist for real in Equestria. [[SarcasmMode Have fun sleeping.]]
* From Starlight's perspective, the two godheads of her world are exchanging increasingly heated words. The last time this happened, one of them unleashed a SuperPoweredEvilSide, which she has been reminded of by her own mentor. She was sent to solve a problem between the rulers of the kingdom, with no actual authority over them, and the situation is unraveling fast. In a panicked moment of desperation, Starlight resorts to the best plan she can think of (which was mostly a gut reaction to the fight). When the dust settles, the two god-tier alicorns are staring at her with open anger. It was In-Universe Nightmare Fuel for poor Starlight.
* ''Celestia's Magic is useless in the Realm of Dreams.'' This statement confirms that there was little to nothing that Celestia could do after banishing Nightmare Moon and for 1000 years, ponies were left to fend for themselves in their sleep against nightmares that were either self-inflicted or inflicted by foreign entities like Nightmare Moon.
* Then there's what Luna said about Starlight's nightmare having grave effects on her psyche if it wasn't resolved. Poor Starlight even cries out she's never going to follow her gut instincts again. That would mean she would've been traumatized like the time she lost Sunburst to his cutie mark. Only instead of becoming a ControlFreak, she would've gone on the opposite end of the spectrum and become [[{{Irony}} some pony so afraid to listen to her gut instincts, she forgoes her own will power altogether]].
** And who knows? Twilight was also a nervous wreck to begin with, simply by helicoptering Starlight. Perhaps she would've been traumatized to see her best friend ''and'' pupil come home from the mission emotionally scarred. And she'd be [[AdultFear worried sick]] that maybe (either by not coming or by interfering at a bad moment or [[BreadEggsBreadedEggs a mix of the two]]) she was [[ItsAllMyFault at fault]]. So that would've also had a damage on ''her'' psyche as well.
*** Twilight would've been right to think it was her fault. She was the one who made Starlight nervous about the mission in the first place and her constant interference only put more pressure on Starlight and since Starlight already suffers from bad anxiety when under pressure it was just asking for trouble.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Discordant Harmony]]
* This seemingly-lighthearted SliceOfLife episode eventually shifts to Discord ''[[CessationOfExistence almost fading out of existence due to his suppression of his chaotic tendencies]]''. By the time he begins to catch on, his ''fingers'' phase through each other, so he can't even snap them to be chaotic. If not for Fluttershy's quick thinking, that could have easily been the end of him.
* A smaller example, but Discord's Fluttershy costume. There's just something...''[[UncannyValley off]]'' about it.
* Discord telling the teapot clerk that he needs [[VoiceOfTheLegion ''the best teaset''.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:The Perfect Pear]]
* The very realistic fallout of a family feud takes its toll on Bright Mac and Pear Butter. Pear Butter has to make [[MortonsFork a very difficult choice]] between being with her birth family or being with the man she loves. When Pear Butter decides to marry Bright Mac instead of going to Vanhoover, she gets ''disowned from the family'' by her father. The AdultFear that one's family would not only disapprove of your partner, but actively kick you out for your choice, is a sobering thought.
* Granted you can't change the past, the fact Grand Pear was actively trying to keep Pear Butter away from Bright Mac (by moving to Van Hoover) acts as one. When the Apple siblings learn this, they are absolutely horrified at the revelation. Because by nearly preventing Pear Butter and Bright Mac from marrying, Grand Pear almost prevented his future grand-children from ''ever being born''!
** Not only that, he almost prevented the ''Element of Honesty'' herself from ever being born!
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Fame and Misfortune]]
* The writers pull no punches with the perils of being a celebrity and having your thoughts made public for all to see. Rarity loses business because of the way other ponies interpreted her character, Fluttershy is constantly being pressured to explain and justify herself, Pinkie Pie is subject to {{Flanderization}} from ponies she's known for years, Rainbow Dash is constantly being followed and pestered to tell the same story over and over again, Applejack's home is invaded by ponies who think just because they read and identified with her entries they're her friends and therefore part of her family now, and ''nopony can get any work done''. We saw how bad it was in Magical Mystery Cure when the Mane Six weren't able to do their jobs properly, how bad is it going to get before all this dies down and the fans finally leave them alone?
* Rarity in particular comes unnervingly close to the nightmare from "For Whom the Sweetie Belle Tolls"; while her line below has become MemeticMutation, it's the worst Rarity's ever snapped in the show.
--> '''Twilight:''' Rarity, what are you doing!?
--> '''Rarity:''' '''''WHY, I'M CREATING A GOWN, DARLING!'''''
* It's played for laughs and we never get to see what happens, but Starlight mentions having a [[DeadlyEuphemism "little chat"]] with the two ponies who insulted Rarity. [[spoiler:Said ponies return at the end of the episode, no worse for wear, though.]]
* Fluttershy is [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness uncharacteristically on edge for most of the episode]], and she's actually gotten to the point where she's [[BewareTheNiceOnes about ready to snap]]. Given what she can do on her own with The Stare, and combine that with the fact that she has a reality warping mad god as a close personal friend, and suddenly this is starting to look more than a little dangerous.

* There's something raw about Pharynx throwing black paint onto the other changelings. It's almost [[DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything reminiscent]] of protesters who throw buckets of animal blood onto fur-coat wearers. His way of 'protesting' changeling transformation has a taste of reality that's surprisingly grim.

[[folder: Daring Done]]
* In the tale of Somnanbula, the Sphinx is somewhat intimidating. Cruel, tyrannical, with nigh-powerful magic, it's like a cross between Discord and Nightmare Moon. They travel in huge swarms, are capable of webbing up a full sized pony to prevent their escape, and they ''bite''. A lot. The only thing one can do is run from them. Even [[BadassNormal Applejack]], [[SilkHidingSteel Rarity]], and [[LeeroyJenkins Rainbow Dash]] don't try anything to fight them off after their initial attempts prove inadequate, instead taking cover in a cave. Oh, and unlike real-life spiders who may occasionally bite large mammals to defend themselves, these nasties actually ''feed on ponies'' if they get the opportunity and run out of easier food.
-->'''Rainbow Dash:''' What do they want now!?\\
'''Applejack:''' Well, like it or not, we're food too.\\
'''Sweetie Belle:''' And I have the bites to prove it!
* Anyone who suffers from claustrophobia will sympathize greatly with Scootaloo's terror about going into the cave, and hyperventilating when the entrance is blocked.
* Poor Rainbow Dash's [[BodyHorror puffy, swollen face]] from retrieving the campfire from the flyders-infested camp.

[[folder: To Change a Changeling]]
* There's
slightly unpleasant things. Don't add something raw about Pharynx throwing black paint onto the other changelings. It's almost [[DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything reminiscent]] of protesters who throw buckets of animal blood onto fur-coat wearers. His way of 'protesting' changeling transformation has a taste of reality that's surprisingly grim.
* Starlight's plan [[spoiler: came ''this'' close to endangering the Changelings.]] It's no wonder why she was brutally called out for
here unless it by Thorax at the end.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Daring Done]]
* In the tale of Somnanbula, the Sphinx is somewhat intimidating. Cruel, tyrannical, with nigh-powerful magic, it's like a cross between Discord and Nightmare Moon. It came close to ruling Equestria, and only
left because Somnanbula had the courage to [[spoiler: answer its riddle and complete its challenge.]]

***Twilight would've been right to think it was her fault. She was the one who made Starlight nervous about the mission in the first place and her constant interference only put more pressure on Starlight and since Starlight already suffers from bad anxiety when under pressure it was just asking for trouble.

** And who knows? Twilight was also a nervous wreck to begin with, simply by helicoptering Starlight. Perhaps she would've been traumatized to see her best friend ''and'' pupil come home from the mission emotionally scarred. And she'd be [[AdultFear worried sick]] that maybe (either by not coming or by interfering or [[BreadEggsBreadedEggs a mix of the two]]) she was [[ItsAllMyFault at fault]]. So that would've also had a damage on ''her'' psyche as well.
