There's also the fact that Bloodgood, the most consistently responsible adult character, does nothing to help except call the monster elder council, and seems only slightly upset that a teenager is going to die. Either Holt's just that annoying, or this situation isn't uncommon- the humans just had a person/monster-sized cage ready to go, and everyone except the students directly involved was remarkably casual about the whole thing.
