* A bit of paranoia fuel for you: whenever the heroes get caught by one of the animatronics, it disappears, the tension is relieved and everybody believes they are safe... only for the animatronic to then lunge out of nowhere and attack.

** YMMV, but this troper got the impression that the suit wasn't modified at all. The suit was described as having held a knife and having been messily torn open from behind when she briefly glimpsed it. In addition, Afton murders officer Dunn with a knife, and the book suggests that he has done so before. Couple that with the strong implication that Afton was the victim of faulty spring locks once before, and it may be implied that Afton murdered Charlie's father, only for the spring locks to trip while he was doing so, likely as Charlie's father struggled against him, which would have forced him to fight his way out of the suit and flee the scene. This is never explicitly stated though.
*** The “Suicide Bot” is explained much better in the later two installments. It is stated that Henry built the endoskeleton for the explicit purpose of ending his own life.
