Their first four albums (''Loverboy'', ''Get Lucky'', ''Keep It Up'' and ''Lovin' Every Minute of It'') were multi-platinum hits in America and featured songwriting and production contributions from such luminaries as Bruce Fairbairn, Creator/RobertJohnMuttLange, Music/BryanAdams and [[Music/{{Journey}} Jonathan Cain]]. However, in spite of their early successes, their fifth album stalled and the band broke up over personal tensions between Mike Reno and Paul Dean.

* MagnumOpusDissonance: ''Just Getting Started'' was a passion work by Mike Reno, with songs and themes he'd been clamoring to write for years, and it finally came out... and sold poorly. Reno was very disheartened by it, so much so that songs from the album haven't been played live in over a decade since its release.
* OldShame: Mike Reno has openly called their older music videos "horrible".

* WhatCouldHaveBeen: "Lovin Every Minute of It" was originally written by Matt Lange for DefLeppard , but had been in hold as the band was on hiatus at the time. He gave it to Loverboy as they were looking around for one more track for their album.

Nevertheless, Loverboy promptly got back together after performing a benefit concert with Bryan Adams and BonJovi, and despite the loss of Scott Smith (who was declared dead after becoming lost at sea) they've been touring and recording ever since.

* NonindicativeTitle: No, "Hot Girls in Love" is not some kind of anthem about how GirlOnGirlIsHot. Rather, it's about hot girls being in love with the singer.

* PopStarComposer: The song "Heaven in Your Eyes" was written for ''TopGun'', but Doug Johnson declined to appear in the music video because he felt that the movie glorified war.
