* DidntSeeThatComing:
** Vodka Killer tries to use a green mist to dull the senses of the Fairy Tail wizards. But since Gajeel is a Dragon Slayer, he manages to track him instantly and takes him out.
** The slavery ringleader didn't expect Cobra to actually use his poison power on the kids to stop him. Though it's later revealed it was non-lethal and merely incapacitated the kids.
* DrivenByEnvy: This is Mash's motivation for trying to turn against Gajeel as he envies his strength while he always felt weak. Gajeel does acknowledge this but still call him a friend otherwise which has Mash have a change of heart.
* FeelNoPain: The Rhodnite drug cause the user to feel no pain and get back up to keep fighting. However of course it has a limit and wears out the body over time.
* FallGuy: Vodka Killer had planned to use Mash as a fall guy for his drug so as to avoid detection and to fly under the radar of the Magic Council. Indeed it nearly does work when Gajeel initially thinks Mash is the culprit, but Gray is observant enough to notice that the drugs were distributed too rapidly and Mash being broken out of prison at the same time doesn't match the time lines, correctly coming to the conclusion someone higher up is involved.
* GreaterScopeVillain: Vodka Killer in the first arc who was responsible for the production and shipping of the Rhodnite drug.
* HumanShield: The boss of the slave ring does this by using the brainwashed kids to prevent Gajeel and Cobra from attacking him. Cobra gets around it by spraying them with some low-level poison. Seemed like a callous move till he reveals he heard the kids hearts and that they were willingly to [[HeroicSacrifice sacrfice themselves in order to stop the ring leader]].

* WouldHurtAChild: The slavery ringleader in the second arc. Even gleefully stating he had no qualms about sacrificing the kids he has at the current and planning to go kidnap more later.
