They take the shape of the target's preference, which is always impossible to resist; this is normally their sexual/romantic type, but if the target has none, they can also take the shape of a deep familial or personal desire. They can only take one form at a time, so they can be fended off in groups, but if their disguise fails, they will attempt to subdue their target by force and with numbers, and are able to sprout wings to fly with (as mosquitos). They also have aquatic larvae (again, because they're mosquitos) and are extremely protective of them. Their saliva, which numbs the pain of their bite, induces extreme pleasure in the victim, leading them to be hunted to near-extinction for this coveted fluid. It's noted that actually demonic succubi also exist, and this is where the mosquito monster version get their name.
