* Myths of this sort emerged in multiple monogamous societies where one gender (usually, men) traveled while the other saw to the homestead (say, fishers, traders, or trade-farmers who lived distant to market). Tales of attractive female vampires that prey on unwary travelers were (are!) perpetuated to keep the errant men from cheating on their wives, as well to prevent younger men from falling in the risks of thinking with their nether regions.
* Incubus (male) and succubus (female) are demons who feed on the life-force of human beings of the opposite sex. Some sources say that they are one and the same, taking the form of both genders. Those names literally translate as "one who lies on top or in (masculine form)", "one who lies below (masculine form)", "one who lies on top or in (feminine form)", and "one who lies below (feminine form)", respectively. [[WildMassGuessing Maybe it's a reference to their preferred sex position]]?

** In the ''Literature/BrimstoneAngels'' series, the change of Succubus/Incubus from Demons from the Abyss to Devils from the Hells between 3rd and 4th edition ''DungeonsAndDragons'' is explained as them having literally defected from one side of the Blood War to the other; initially they were actually Devils who decided to join the Demons, but have now returned to the Devils side, and are now something of hell's infiltration specialists and spies (that retain an explosive temper as a result of their demon heritage), who use their CharmPerson abilities to get information out of targets and worm their ways into prominent circles, and don't actually need to use their abilities for sex. Their status as former demons however keeps them low on the Hells' hierarchy, and they're often perceived as little more than whores by other devils. They're also ranked below the erinyes, who are explained to have been Succubi themselves who got promoted and became fierce warriors and generals within Hells' armies, and now use their authority to bully the Succubi.
*** Much of the Succubi lore is told through the perspective of Rohini, one of the lesser viewpoint characters and minor antagonists, and is a former Demon-aligned Sucubus working under Lorcan's Erinyes mother. Unlike other Succubi, she actually prefers to assume a less obviously attractive form, becoming something closer to a HollywoodHomely or HotLibrarian type, as an eye-catching beauty is more likely to be noticed and remembered and can have the reverse effect of making people less interested ''because'' they realise that she's out of their league, while someone who's "less obviously" attractive is more likely to be below notice, make people more confident around her and assume less of her, and make targets feel good about themselves for "noticing" her. Despite her more cerebral approach to infiltration, she does note that she still has a vicious and violent temper as a holdover from her ChaoticEvil demon time, and killed one of her targets who had recognised her as a succubus after he admitted to having killed her sister, called them both whores, and insulted said sister after her death.

* ''WesternAnimation/AngelWars'': A demon named [[MeaningfulName Cubus]] had the ability to make herself look like an attractive, wealthy, and powerful human woman visible to humans, and used all these traits to tempt a scientist into using a sabotaged cosmetic product on himself. Interestingly enough, she herself ''wasn't'' an EmotionEater, or at least she wasn't the one consuming negative human emotions in the episode she was in; she was drawing on the scientist's negative emotions and using them to empower another demon who she was working with by way of an elaborate machine.

* Creator/NeilGaiman uses this theme a few times:
** Lamia the Velvet from ''Literature/{{Neverwhere}}'' is a classic succubus. She seems sweet, until she kisses the main character and he begins to turn into an icicle.
** Something like a succubus also appears in one of his short stories. A woman has sex with a male prostitute, who appears to have minor psychic abilities, and steals his powers and his memories.

* According to the infamous {{witch hunt}}ing manual, the ''Literature/MalleusMaleficarum'', demons could not reproduce by themselves normally, so a succubus would seduce a human male to take his seed, and then pass it on to an incubus that would use it to impregnate a human woman, resulting in a half-demon known as a cambion. Anyone with a modern high school education (and specifically knowledge of how genetics work which wasn't available back in the day of author Heinrich Kramer) would know why this would not work and why the kid produced would be completely human instead, though believers in this would most likely posit that something supernatural took place in order to alter the semen to be demonic in nature.

* ''VideoGame/WorldOfWarcraft'': Warlocks of 20th level or higher can learn how to summon a succubus as a minion, using the hearts of pure men to entice her from her home plane. They also clearly enjoy being [[SpankTheCutie spanked]]. (The man'ari eredar spy Talgath, in particular, comes off as downright prudish.) According to Website/TheOtherWiki, Warcraft succubi may genuinely fall in love with their summoner, so if they try to get the warlock in bed, it may be motivated by actual affection and not just the desire to steal your soul. Shadowlands added the ablity to summon an Incubus instead who function identically, and as part of an effort to be more inclusive of players who prefere to have a scantly clad male demon at their side, a lower quality version of the model was made and back-ported into both versions of WoW Classic

* ''Manga/DeliciousInDungeon'': Succubi in this universe are actually giant mosquitos with {{glamour}}, and suck out a victim's vital essence with a syringe-like proboscis, leaving them as shrivelled husks. They take the shape of the target's preference, which is always impossible to resist; this is normally their sexual/romantic type, but if the target has none, they can also take the shape of a deep familial or personal desire. They can only take one form at a time, so they can be fended off in groups, but if their disguise fails, they will attempt to subdue their target by force and with numbers, and are able to sprout wings to fly with (as mosquitos). They also have aquatic larvae (again, because they're mosquitos) and are extremely protective of them. Their saliva, which numbs the pain of their bite, induces extreme pleasure in the victim, leading them to be hunted to near-extinction for this coveted fluid. It's noted that actually demonic succubi also exist, and this is where the mosquito monster version get their name.
