His questionable tactics include wielding a heavy machine gun during a hostage situation and not settling for stealth when Helghast can be killed. It gets bad in [[{{Killzone}} Killzone 2]] when Templar decides in some strange fashion that he is worthy of not only heading up Alpha, but also getting the charge to capture Visari. [[spoiler:Guess how it ends.]] In the manual for the first game, it's stated he was a Rhino Squad member, who were known for being unnessecerily violent.

readded General Ripper to the "this trope is the grunt version of" part. A crazy soldier who believes that one person (or type of person) is responsible for all the bad things that are happening to them is pretty much the definition of the Type 1, Patriotic Fervor variety, and can easily overlap with the others. Similarly, Colonel Kilgore only covers the first, and sometimes the second types. I think both need to be mentioned.


The grunt version of ColonelKilgore. Often people below the rank of Sergeant are all around [[JerkAss assholes]] who plunder, rape, and massacre civilians, or brutally torture and murder the hero's comrades, making killing them less guilt-causing.

Unlike Kimblee, many of them now regret it. In the first anime, [[SerialKiller Barry]] starts giving a HannibalLecture basically stating Barry the reason for this entire trope is Chopper]] argues that [[HumansAreBastards people naturally really do want to kill each other other]], but can't bring themselves to won't do so until they're given it without permission from their society.]]the government; hence why people join the army in the first place. Kimblee makes a similar speech in the manga and Brotherhood anime, in which he questions the motivations of Roy and his friends, suggesting that if they were only willing to kill a few people, but not thousands, they shouldn't have joined the army in the first place.

He's only slightly nicer to the men under his command; one time not mourning one's death, because he was Greek Orthodox and therefore a heretic, even if he was a nice guy.

On the other side, there are the [[StateSec Freedom Party Guards]] who to say the least, aren't very nice. What do you expect from SS expies?
