FurBikini, though it can overlap in case the character's nonhuman biology is based on a fur/hair-covered mammal (e.g. a Catgirl).

* From Franchise/Pokemon, Jynx seems to play with this trope. Although her red covering may look like a dress, almost every wild Pokémon doesn't wear a single piece of clothing (notable exceptions are Scrafty, his or her pre-evolution and Mimikyu). This means that her red suit may be just an elaborate, multi-colored skin patch. On the other hand, the trope is played straight with Nidoqueen, which sports two massive chest plates.

Sometimes, when you need to create a human-looking alien, a female member of a race of UnscaledMerfolk, or a DraconicHumanoid, bras or simple breasts coverings may look awkward, as she isn't supposed to wear any clothes at all. Well, what should a writer do? The answer is, in this case, covering the mammaries with a natural fleshy appendage, wide enough to hide cleavage and nipples from a view from above. In a few cases, it can also cover a good part of the belly and the waist, forming a shell-like composition. Usually it will be thick enough to hide the nipples underneath, which consequently leads to NippleAndDimed. Bonus points if the creature either looks like an adolescent or appears in children media.

1 .This trope was around in this form well before them. 2. Doesn\'t really explain why the trope was used in the show, since they could have just given the actresses long wigs. You might bring up how ineffective those would be at covering up in real life, but that brings up that supposition is not an example, even in the form of the lin as it was written.

reply:
* The VideoGame/HyruleWarriors version of Princess Ruto fins on her chest that have the appearance of a dress top to cover her breasts.

reply:
Also a sister trope to BarbieDollAnatomy, where the creature doesn't appear to wear a bra, but has no visible nipples anyway.

reply:
Video Games:
* In VideoGame/StarTrekOnline, Fek'Ihri Ravagers have a blobby patch of flesh over the breasts. Very much FanDisservice.

reply:
There are a few examples listed at SeashellBra that are aversions of that trope and straight examples of this one, where mermaids are portrayed with natural scales over their chest.

reply:
And that's the reason they ought to be sister tropes. However, the trope I proposed concerns with every kind of humanoid creature.

reply:
^ What I meant is that SeashellBra can be fished (no pun intended) for examples. I found the following:

* The mermaids in Series/Charmed have a variation where their breasts are covered by strategically-placed scales. Worth noting is that the hair of the actresses playing mermaids was too short to function as GodivaHair.
* Mermaids in Series/H2OJustAddWater and Series/MakoMermaidsAnH2OAdventure have scales in exactly the same pattern as a bra, complete with straps, with a bare midriff between that and the scales of their tails. Mermen are bare chested.

reply:
All right, then.

reply:
* The female naga from VideoGame/WorldOfWarcraft have their breasts covered by scales (their models in VideoGame/WarcraftIII simply have BarbieDollAnatomy, but that's probably due to the lower graphic resolution). Some of them wear armor over their chest, though.

reply:
NippleAndDimed should be referenced somewhere in the description. (i.e. these characters are designed this way so that they can have breasts without having visible nipples)

reply:
I don't think it's necessary to comment on how it's great that this trope saves you looking at women you don't consider hot.

reply:
Fixed.

reply:
Well, it can be either a general FanService or FanDisservice (MostWritersAreMale).

reply:
In Film/XMen (film version) shapeshifter Mystique is nude when not shapeshifted; she has scaly parts over her naughty bits.

reply:
Charmed, Starcraft and Pokemon are currently not WikiWords. You should put them in curly brackets.

reply:
@Ruto This was added from Ocarina of Time 3D.

reply:
Darkstalkers has CatGirl Felicia with a strip of fur that both censors her nipples and seems to act as a bra.

reply:
Mystique is a good image choice.

reply:
Is there a trope for when a shapeshifter's clothes are part of the shapeshifter itself? Because in TheNineties WesternAnimation WesternAnimation/XMen (and probably other versions too), Mystique's dress is made of herself, which would sort of make it this trope, but would probably fit better under the above trope if it exists.

reply:
^It seems not. The closest thing I found was its polar trope: ShapeshiftingExcludesClothing.

reply:
I made a YKTTW for Technically Naked Shapeshifter, because that seems to be related to this but distinct enough to deserve its own trope.

reply:
^ Legit. It's certainly a familar trope.

reply:
Not sure if this counts but:

* Nami, the Tidecaller in VideoGame/LeagueOfLegends has this as well as AbsoluteCleavage formed with her scales.

reply:
It counts. Her breasts are covered by her own skin.

reply:
There are at least two people who thinks this trope needs a bettet name, should we vote on one?

reply:
I'm fine with the current name.

reply:
The name and laconic feel like they could use improvement to me. While it's not too hard to figure out Fleshy Bra, it sounds more like it's a literal bra made out of flesh. I'd go for something more like Built-In Bra.

Similarly, the laconic says it's for characters who can't wear bras. As far as I'm aware, characters like Mystique can, and the naga in Warcraft certainly can (some of them do).

I feel like the laconic should be more like "When a female character's breasts are covered by something styled like clothes but is biologically part of their body."

reply:
"Built-In Bra" sounds a bit better but gives an artifical ring to it rather than being part of the body. Maybe something like "Natural Bra"?

reply:
NaturalBra
NaturalBreastCover
OrganicBra
NippleCoveringShell

reply:
Yep, Organic Bra sounds good!

The laconic sounds better too, so I think this is good to launch if you guys do.

Usually it will thick enough to hide the nipples underneath, which consequently leads to NippleAndDimed. Bonus points if the creature either looks like an adolescent or appears in children media.

In a case of TropesAreNotBad, this trope may be used to avoid pretty nasty FanDisservice moments.

Sister trope of SeaShellBra and BarbieDollAnatomy. Compare it to NonMammalMammaries.

!Examples

*Both versions of Medusa from ClashOfTheTitans have black plates covering their nipples.
*Marishka, Alena and Verona (a.k.a Dracula's brides) from Van Helsing have their chests covered with ridged leathery white skin whenever they turn into vampires. Justified, as their human forms possess Striperrific clothes.
*In Film/XMen shapeshifter Mystique is nude when not shapeshifted; she has scaly parts over her naughty bits.

*Ursula, along with her sister Morgana, from Disney/TheLittleMermaid franchise can be seen as the TropeCodifier: her waist, buttocks and breasts are covered by a patch of black skin that forms a sweet-heat neckline. Interestingly, her back lacks the black covering.

*The mermaids in Charmed have a variation where their breasts are covered by strategically-placed scales. Worth noting is that the hair of the actresses playing mermaids was too short to function as Godiva Hair.
*Mermaids in H2O:JustAddWater and MakoMermaidsAnH2OAdventure have scales in exactly the same pattern as a bra, complete with straps, with a bare midriff between that and the scales of their tails. Mermen are bare chested.

* The VideoGame/HyruleWarriors version of Princess Ruto fins on her chest that have the appearance of a dress top to cover her breasts. This was added from Ocarina of Time 3D, though.
* In VideoGame/StarTrekOnline, Fek'Ihri Ravagers have a blobby patch of flesh over the breasts. Very much FanDisservice.
*The Queen of Blades from Starcraft franchise has a purple colored skin that covers her breasts. Furthermore, everything but the breasts is covered with bones-like bumps.
*From Pokemon, Jynx seems to play with this trope. Although her red covering may look like a dress, almost every wild Pokèmon doesn't wear not a single one (notable exceptions are Scrafty, his or her pre-evolution and Cosplay Pikachus)..That is, her red suit may be just an elaborate, multi-colored skin patch. On the other hand, the trope is played straight with Nidoqueen, which sports two massive chest plates.
* The female naga from VideoGame/WorldOfWarcraft have their breasts covered by scales (their models in VideoGame/WarcraftIII simply have BarbieDollAnatomy, but that's probably due to the lower graphic resolution). Some of them wear armor over their chest, though.
* Bowser/Bowletta from MarioAndLuigiSuperstarSaga possesses two large plates on her chest just like the afore-mentioned Nidoqueen.
* Despite being a human-like creature, the fury Alecto from God of War:Ascension has her breasts covered by a naturally produced, black, tar-like substance. Her cleavage is quite visible, though.
*Darkstalkers has CatGirl Felicia with a strip of fur that both censors her nipples and seems to act as a bra.
* Nami, the Tidecaller in VideoGame/LeagueOfLegends has this as well as AbsoluteCleavage formed with her scales.
