** Despite all evidence to the contrary, Nanny Ogg can only see her tomcat Greebo as the sweet little kitten she first took in.
*** This would be the Greebo that is said to be able to fight and/or rape anything up to and including a four-horse logging wagon, and once killed a vampire.
**** Twice. One he ate (said vampire was in bat form at the time) and one he just attacked violently for disturbing his nap.
** Hodgesaargh, Lancre's royal falconer, is somewhat of an example, although he doesn't name his charges "Fluffy". Still, he's successfully reared the most lethal feathered hunters in the world (which is, after all half the point of falconry). He just hasn't managed to tame them completely (admittedly, this is the other half). And that's still better than some people could manage, given that Lancre's native birds of prey are described as having "a certain 'sod-you' frame of mind".

** Hodgesaargh, Lancre's royal falconer, is somewhat of an example, although he doesn't name his charges "Fluffy". Part of the reason, of course, is that falcons aren't fluffy.
*** Baby falcons are.
*** Hodgesaargh is also notable for being really bad at his job. His unusual name is due to his charges strike:usually always attacking him mid-sentence.
*** Not so much 'really bad' as 'too good'. He's successfully reared the most lethal feathered hunters in the world (which is, after all half the point of falconry). He just hasn't managed to tame them (admittedly this is the other half).
**** Give the man some credit: he found a baby phoenix, figured out pretty much how they work, and was the only one to realize that phoenixes -magic though they may be- still require at least two of them to get the species going. "As for there only ever being one phoenix, well, that'd obviously been written down by a man who ought to get out in the fresh air more and meet some ladies."
**** Considering that it isn't really possible to 'tame' birds - they don't have the emotions needed. You just train them to see you as a good way of getting food, shelter and water. Hodgesaargh was very good at getting them food, so they associated him with it. Its the same reason that bears kill people; they've learned that they generally strike:are have food.
***** That's a common misconception because birds don't display emotion in the same fashion mammals do. Ask anyone who keeps parrots or works with birds of prey, they definitely have moods and can be tamed. Of course, a tamed bird of prey is only moderately less likely to take a chunk out of you than wild one when other people around.

** Slightly more importantly, that same supplemental material reveals that Rancors are FluffyTheTerrible of the GentleGiant variety; they're sort of like big, loveable apes with strong parental instincts. The particular Rancor from the movie fell victim to Jabba the Hutt's prejudices; because it looked big, mean, and nasty, he ordered it starved and mistreated so that it would make a good show when he threw people into it's pen. That's right, the Rancor is the Star Wars equivalent of a pit bull.
