* AxCrazy: Quite a few human (or [[WasOnceAMan once human]]) threats fall under this category. Literature/JeffTheKiller and [[FollowTheLeader its imitators]] are among the most famous. Jeff in particular seems to have had elements of homicidal urges from the start, however being disfigured after being set on fire seems to have exacerbated the issue, to the point where he's constantly LaughingMad, mutilates himself, and even murders his own family to begin his career as a SerialKiller.

* GoodAllAlong: The Trucker from ''He Told Me not to Look in the Back Seat'' seems that he's a sadistic serial killer who is keeping his most recent victim in the back seat, who has been blinded and mutilated. He's really a HunterOfMonsters who disposes of what hikers turn into if they [[StayOnThePath leave the trails to go exploring the caves in the woods]]. The thing in the back seat *is* the girl who went missing, but she's been warped into a creature that haunts anyone who looks directly at her.

** The monster from ''The Horror from the Vault'' collects people and animals and fuses them with itself or turns them into MeatMoss.

* BodyOfBodies: The "[[OurGhoulsAreCreepier ghoul]]" from ''The Horror From the Vault'' is able to [[spoiler:assimilate living tissue by drowning people and animals in its pond]]. It also produces "mounds" of flesh-covered organs, seamlessly fused together and completely functional despite being from several different species. One of the [[MindRape nightmares it induces]] is about a creature not unlike the Legion from [=CastleVania=] replacing the sun. The creature itself looks like a GiantEnemyCrab made out of fused bodies.

* EvilAllAlong: The ending of "The Scarecrow Murders" reveals [[spoiler:Emma was trying to set Tyler up as the third sacrifice for the Stranger, and dismissively shrugs him off as someone nobody would miss]].

* EvilSmellsBad: The creature from ''The Horror From the Vault'' smells like an infected wound. Its lair smells like stagnant blood, urine, and stomach acid.

* IntrepidReporter: Tyler from "The Scarecrow Murders" is a [[FishOutOfWater city mouse]] journalist who investigates the titular murders in a TownWithADarkSecret.

* KillItWithIce: The third ''Horror from the Vault'' story has one of the creatures make it to England, where it nearly freezes to death.

* MeatMoss:
** ''Dogscape'' is about the world being entirely covered in a canid EldritchAbomination.
** The creature in ''The Horror From the Vault'' creates a mess of the stuff in the clearing where it nests. If that's not bad enough, the animals it makes it from are [[AndIMustScream still alive and conscious,]] trying to escape...

EldritchAbomination.

* OurGhoulsAreCreepier:
** The base form of the creature from "The Horror from the Vault" is described as "a ghoul with no face". It's a larval form of [[spoiler:TheAssimilator]].
** "Box Borne Wraith" is about a mobster who is BuriedAlive, and makes friends with the famine-struck colony of Lovecraft-style ghouls who dig him... down. He offers to send them his old mob buddies if they let him go.

* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Emma delivers one to the Stranger in "The Scarecrow Murders".
-->'''Emma:''' [[ShutUpHannibal Stop talking]]. We're done. You're a coward and a worm. You were so afraid of my grandad you wouldn't step foot in Claremont until he was dead. He must have hurt you something awful back in fifty-five, huh?

* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: At the end of "The Scarecrow Murders", [[spoiler:Tyler decides to leave town after figuring out he was set up as a ritual sacrifice]].
