* In Andy Hoare's WhiteScars novel ''Hunt for Voldorius'', how they try to secure Malya's compliance.

** But you can't forget about Guts himself. After being broken and turned into a near-soulless husk of pure rage, he starts sending the pain right back. Knowing that what would definitely kill normal humans only hurts the Apostles, he pulls no punches. Particularly, the Baron, whom he riddles with crossbow bolts after rendering him crippled and helpless, and the Count, whom he stabs dozens of times in the face until his knife breaks off.

In the Shadow Depository storyline, the owner of the bank seemed to be pretty good at this, making her even ''creepier'' than the [[StarTrek Borg Queen]]. The NightmareFuelUnleaded one took place in "A Clockwork Nebari" featured OurHero ''getting his eyeballs pulled out''. They even showed that one in the ''trailer''. Jesus ''fuck''.

* Captain Videl in ''[[PansLabyrinth Pan's Labyrinth]]'' seems a bit too fond of torturing rebels his soldiers capture, to the point at which he describes the "bond" developed between himself and the victim after various instruments (pliers, hammers, knives, etc) are used. He then orders the doctor to heal a captured rebel who was nearly tortured to death. [[spoiler:Thankfully the doctor is kind enough to euthanize the poor guy.]]

* In the ''DaleBrown'' novels, [[spoiler: David Luger]] was tortured by his Soviet captors as part of his [[{{Brainwashed}} brainwashing]].

** [=MGS3=]. '''And how!''' [[spoiler:After being discovered talking to Sokolov, Volgin beats the shit out of Snake. First, for hurting Ivan (Snake was in a mask resembling the character in order to break in; he stuffed the real Ivan, Volgin's lover, into a locker.), he knocks him out. Snake wakes up in a torture chamber; the scene is 'playable', but you're not able to do ''anything'' save taking punches, and the screen is entirely black (except for subtitles, if you have them on). You hear Volgin beating Sokolov to death, and casually remarking "I guess he's dead" afterward; one in a very, very long line of KickTheDog moments from Volgin. He then goes back to beating you, including dousing you in water and shocking you (using the high voltage inexplicably going through his body). After awhile, he demands that one character [[EyeScream cut out your eyes]]. In order to do this, they reveal that your character had been kept in a black hood. Another character that had been in the room notices someone has a familiar odor, and calls them out on it. After groping them, he plays a version of RussianRoulette that involves juggling revolvers (which he had used earlier to intimidate someone to the point of them pissing themselves). Your character knocks him when the gun with the bullet comes up, causing your character to be [[EyeScream Blinded in one eye by the muzzle flash]] (later on, if you switch to first person view, it's actually obscured and darkened for the rest of the game, and he gets his EyepatchOfPower). As they're leaving, the character that he demanded to cut out your eyes ''shoots you in the leg'' (with good reason, but still)]] This is all played out over around 10-15 minutes of pure brutality.

** And then, at the end of the second series starring Fitz, [[ the Fool is physically and psychologically broken by a particularly horrific and extended series of torture, which included being flayed alive. Poor Fool. ]]
