** Inej and Kaz have both created dangerous alter ego identities--Dirtyhands and the Wraith. They are both largely motivated by revenge against specific people (Tante Heleen and Pekka Rollins), and they both have an aversion to human contact due to exceptionally traumatic experiences. To top it off, they both have unsaid feelings for the other.
** Kaz and Wylan are both natively Kerch, disabled, brilliant prodigies. Both were almost killed in the canals around Ketterdam, and were "reborn" as different people. The difference is that while Jordie wasn't street smart and strong enough to take care of Kaz, Kaz could watch out for Wylan.

Most notable are Inej and Nina, handpicked by Kaz to be part of the Dreg's inner circle based on skill alone. Okay, maybe I am horribly biased (and I recognize that this is a long post for editing a word, but I want to make sure there is enough evidence for this), but since Kaz seems to genuinely care about his crew, and still has lines that he won’t cross (like abusing and then trying to kill your dyslexic son), I am hesitant to call him a sociopath. Sociopaths have no attachment to others, unless it’s to get what they want. Kaz says to Inej that he would get her even if she couldn’t be his spy. A sociopathic person would leave her in the gutters after she broke her legs, making her useless to them. Jan Van Eck, however, I would label as one. He has no interest in looking after his son once it becomes clear that Wylan isn’t able to read, making him useless in his eyes. Kaz, on the other hand, doesn’t seem to give a shit about Wylan’s illiteracy. Kaz learns to show some of his feelings towards Inej. Jan Van Eck, on the other hand, does not become a slightly better person, like Kaz, he is still convinced at how right he is.
