** The addendum to the grandfather's will mentioned in the previous book under that page's ArtisticLicenseLaw is brought up by Bart; he tells Corrine that as a lawyer, he could have contested it and gotten it dismissed easily.

* {{Foil}}: Julian to Chris. Both are head-over-heels for Cathy, set very high goals and standards for themselves, and have a FreudianExcuse regarding their parents for their issues; they also can't stand one another. Yet Chris matures, learns to let Cathy go her own way (while remaining stoically faithful), acts at the very least civil regarding Julian, and achieves his dreams; Julian grows more and more immature, violently possessive (yet extremely ''unfaithful''), hates Chris with a passion, and is too much an unstable dick to achieve his dreams.

** Chris' disapproval of Cathy's relationships with both Paul and Julian are no doubt mostly born of LoveTriangle romantic jealousy. But he's absolutely right about Julian's many flaws, and the impropriety of Cathy and Paul's relationship given their age difference and that Paul was their guardian for several years.

But he's absolutely right about Julian's many flaws, and the impropriety of Cathy and Paul's relationship given their age difference and that Paul was their guardian for several years. Similarly with Bart, he's aware that it's (at first) merely a manipulative, callous ploy to get back at their mother.

* KarmicDeath:
** Julian caps his years of awful abuse by breaking Cathy's toes, purposefully trying to rob her of the career she'd dedicated her life to out of senseless spite. Shortly thereafter he is terribly injured in a car wreck, ruining ''his'' career (while she recovers), and kills himself in despair.
** Yolanda is a bitch to Cathy for years, jealous of her talent, and gleefully replaces her as Julian's partner and lover. When it's made clear she was only made a desperate last-minute stand-in upon Cathy's return, she wrecks Cathy's home and every one of her most prized, treasured possessions. During the same wreck that injures Julian she ends up launched through the windshield.

* PsychopathicManchild: Good Lord, ''Julian''. Physically, emotionally, sexually abusive; prone to violent tantrums and outbursts; demands Cathy's complete and utter devotion and attention to the exclusion of anybody else, while insisting on doing anything (and sleeping with anyone) he pleases; petty, whiny, and bitchy. Cathy's relationship with him is less wife and husband, more mother and out-of-control toddler.

* VillainousBreakdown: After her MotiveRant, Corrine [[spoiler: burns down Foxworth Hall.]]

**
After her MotiveRant, Corrine [[spoiler: burns down Foxworth Hall.]]]]
** Julian goes off the deep end when Cathy escapes him to attend Chris' graduation. He compounds his alcoholism with substance abuse, engages in behavior and actions that sabotage his own career merely to spite her, and ends up a physically-broken and suicidal mess in a hospital bed.
