Both are head-over-heels for Cathy, set very high goals and standards for themselves, and have a FreudianExcuse regarding their parents for their issues; they also can't stand one another. Yet Chris matures, learns to let Cathy go her own way (while remaining stoically faithful), acts at the very least civil regarding Julian, and achieves his dreams; Julian grows more and more immature, violently possessive (yet extremely ''unfaithful''), hates Chris with a passion, and is too much an unstable dick to achieve his dreams.
