In series, our vanilla world exists alongside the magical one, accessible by a few gates. In this world, cities and places matches cities and places in ours (Thorn for Toruń, Triple Alliance for Three-City) and locals have [[MagiTek electricity and phones]]. Said "locals" are magical creatures such as vampires, werewolves, strigas, wraiths, ghosts, succubi, witches, magicians, shapeshifters, loads and loads of Slavic mythology beasts [[AllMythsAreTrue and more]]. As "magicals", werewolves and vampires are all very territorial, Three-Side Treaty was signed - it's basically the Constitution for magical world. \\

Alongside ''this'' world exists Hell and Heaven, currently at peace with each other. Because of FantasticRacism, Judeo-Christian world and magical world didn't really used to get along (you know, witch burning, Inquisition, sacrificing priests and such), so a few centuries ago an Interdimensional Treaty was signed to keep peace. The stories are set in modern times and deal (among other things) with the consequences of both Treaties and FantasticRacism, but a lot of HilarityEnsues, too.\\

** TookALevelInBadass: in the course of three books Dora transformed from regular half-blood northern witch to [[spoiler:quasi-vampire landlady, leader of a werewolf pack, uber-powerful multi-skilled witch with mental bond with angel and demon]], Miron changed from [[TheDrifter freelancer]] devil who happens to be boss' grandson into [[spoiler: fire-breathing pyr with the same mental bond]] and Joshua went from ShrinkingViolet wingless angel to [[spoiler: badass GuardianAngel with wings ]]and CoolSword (although the last one was borrowed from ArchangelMichael and was given back later). Frankly, the Trio gets new powers and perks OncePerEpisode.

* OurAngelsAreDifferent: Angels in Dora Wilk's world are long-lived beings with [[TheEmpath empathic]] powers, who DetectEvil and form [[PsychicLink mental bonds]] between close family members (although it seems it's more about emotional closeness than how much DNA they share). They are much stronger and more resistant than normal humans, and much better-looking. If a person considers an angel his/her guardian and believes in this very strongly, the angel becomes said person's Guardian, able to sense the ward's psychical state and location no matter where they are (and which world). There are different kinds of angels (let's not dwell into that...) and only some of them have wings. * ShoutOut: books have loads of references to modern pop culture depicturing of werewolves and vampires, such as ''Twilight'' (look below), ''Interview With a Vampire'' along with its movie adaptation and various metal bands (The Trio love those). Hell is divided into nine circles (on the other hand, ever since Dante's ''Inferno'' Hells just plain have circles), various biblical characters show up and Gabriel's Annunciation is referred to more than once.

* FallenAngel: Rlers of Hell, like Samael or Lucifer are those. Most of hellians, however, were living there long before the Fall.

''Dora Wilk Series'' (formal name: ''Witch's Hexalogy'') is UrbanFantasy book series by Polish author Aneta Jadowska. The story centers on police officer turned private investigator Theodora "Dora" Wilk (Polish for "Wolf") who also happens to be a witch with terribly complicated genealogy. She's aided by [[HotAsHell devil Miron]], his [[HeterosexualLifePartners friend]] Joshua ([[OurAngelsAreDifferent angel]]) and [[TheBartender bartender]] demon Leon, as well as Katia, a {{Necromancer}} with a {{Cloud Cuckoo Lander}} vibe and Witkacy, a fellow cop [[spoiler: and a WitchDoctor]]. All books take place in northern Poland, mostly in Toruń and Three-City[[note]] three big cities on Polish coast - Gdańsk (Danzig), Gdynia and Sopot - which are often treated as one because they lie very close to each other and thus have lots of joint administration[[/note]] .

* ActionFashionista: Katia. Either kicking some undead asses, or crying over Dora's broken nails.

* ArchangelGabriel: one of secondary characters in the book and grandfather of Joshua. He seems to be focused mainly on angelic politics adn personal gain. Kind of a {{Jerkass}} in the first book, but later he gets his PetADog moment.
* ArchangelMichael: leader of Archangel Council (Heaven's ruling body), doesn't show up until the end of ''Gods Must Be Crazy''. As Gabriel and Lucipher, he's [[spoiler: connected with them by the same Triumvirate mental bond Trio forms later]]. Dora describes his appearance as [[UncannyValley "too perfect to seem human"]].
* ArchangelRaphael: Healer of the Archangel Council and opposer of any sort of peace between Hell and Heaven. {{Jerkass}} and xenophobe.
* ArchangelUriel: also member of Archangel Council, as their telepath he's charged with interrogating suspects during Court sessions.
* AsskickingEqualsAuthority: to be on the Council, you've got to be the best - which in magical world means you've got to be powerful enough.

** BadassGrandpa: Lucifer. During a hellish uprising in ''Winner Takes It All'' he almost single-handedly stops rebellions' assault.

** BadassLongcoat: A long, black one is Miron's outfit for any occasion.

** BadassUnintentional: the Trio didn't really plan to get so many levels in Badass.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Joshua, ShrinkingViolet with ass-kicking skills.

** [[spoiler: BiggerBad: whoever/whatever possessed Raphael all those centuries ago.]]
* BigGood: Judeo-Christianic God Almighty and magical world's Goddess (aka Mother Nature). They both care about the world and every single inhabitant of it and are willing to help out as much as they can. "Closer to Earth" (sarcasm intended) are Archangels Michael and Uriel - even if they can't stop some things because of ancient laws, they care about more than just themselves and promise to get to the truth and serve justice if Trio won't be able to do so.

* DressingAsTheEnemy: played with. In book 2 the Trio is invited for carnival party by Triple Alliance vampires. As they expect vampires to interrogate and probably imprison them, they come in armed, but as vampire carnival party rule is "dress as non-vampire", Trio - all non-vampire - decides to dress as vampires from famous movies.

* {{Fanservice}}: a ''lot''. Every sex or kiss scene is quite detailed, most of the characters look young and sexy (and what would you do, dear Tropers, if you could work on your body for thousands of years?) and their descriptions are generally SceneryPorn. Female characters were either leather, translucent costumes, skin-tight costumes or AbsoluteCleavage.
* FantasticRacism: important plot point and one of the themes of the series. It is said that a lot of angels dislike magicals and vice-versa. Half-blood, such as angel-devil hybrids (like Leon) or angel-magical creature hybrids (like Nathaniel) are not well seen - attitudes varies from "it's a bit unnatural" to "''this thing'' must die". Magicals and Judeo-Christianics have a long history of violence and as they're long living, some of them still remember Inquisition and witch burning. Members of Hell, Heaven and magical community has separate districts, restaurants and clubs and it's unlikely to see magical in Hell's bar or angel in magicals' club. Although leaders of all three groups try to calm down the moods, conflict remains festering under the surface. In those circumstances, friendship between Dora, Miron and Joshua is considered something unusual, to say the least.
* FallenAngel: rulers of Hell, like Samael or Lucifer are those. Most of hellians, however, were living there long before the Fall.

* {{Hell}}: not a bad place if you are friends with boss' grandson. It has a lovely old town, too, with gas lamps and old-timey cabs. However, it's not so much fun in regions like Samael's domain or old Heaven vs Hell battle sites (blood never did soak into the ground). And generally being a client isn't much of a holiday.
* {{Heaven}}: angels' domain, it's not necessarily good place. It's full of politics, though, and [[FantasticRacism fantastic racists]].
* HemoErotic: seems to be general vampire fetish, since they enjoy sex and blood drinking in the same way. Partially werewolves' fetish too, since ability to turn into giant, fanged, tusked beast opens some possibilities for BDSM-ers.

* {{Magitek}}: underplayed, but electrical stuff in alternative world runs on magic and magical abilities are genetic.

* MugglesDoItBetter: part of the reason for supernaturals to stay hidden in another world is that nowadays, with criminology and forensic medicine, discovering them would be a piece of cake for anyone with DNA-sequencing equipment. Also, Dora often prefers her Beretta to her spells (it's faster) and muggle cops have no problem with capturing supernatural criminals (although this is partially because said criminal was wise enough not to turn into wolf in front of the muggles).
* NonhumanHumanoidHybrid: a lot of magicals are those and angel-nonangel hybrids aren't unheard of, either. Most notably Leon, Nathaniel and Dora, although in her case this trope is played with, as her parents are humans, but she only [[LegoGenetics inherited the non-human, recessive genes]].

* OncePerEpisode: at the beginning of every book Dora gains one magical runic tattoo to aid her during the story. The tattoo gets "taken back" by magic at the end of every book. Also, The Trio seems to gain more allies and powers in every consecutive book.

** Baal, especially in ''Winner Takes It All''. We witness the scene Dora's vision of the future events and it begins with Baal boning a cute girl. As Dora [[GuiltyPleasures can't get her eyes off them]] we get quite a detailed description.

* MugglesDoItBetter: part of the reason for hiding in alternative world is that in modern times, with criminology and forensic medicine, discovering the supernatural world would be laughably easy for anyone with DNA-sequencing equipment. Also, Dora often prefers her Beretta over spells (it's faster) and muggle cops have no problem with capturing supernatural criminals (although this is partially because said criminal was wise enough not to turn into wolf in front of the muggles).

In series, our vanilla world exists alongside the magical one, accessible by a few gates. In this world, cities and places matches cities and places in ours (Thorn for Toruń, Triple Alliance for Three-City) and locals have [[MagiTek electricity and phones]]. Said "locals" are magical creatures such as vampires, werewolves, strigas, wraiths, ghosts, succubus, witches, magicians, shapeshifters, loads and loads of Slavic mythology beasts [[AllMythsAreTrue and more]]. As "magicals", werewolves and vampires are all very territorial, Three-Side Treaty was signed - it's basically Constitution of magical world. \\
Alongside ''this'' world exists Hell and Heaven, which currently are at peace with each other. Because of FantasticRacism, Judeo-Christian world and magical world didn't really do along for centuries (you know, witch burning, Inquisition, sacrificing priests and such), so few centuries ago both sides signed a Interdimensional Treaty to ensure peace. The series is place in modern times and partially deals with consequences of both Treaties and FantasticRacism, but a lot of HilarityEnsues, too.\\
It has to be mentioned, that our heroine is descendant of priestess of old magical "fertility cult" which means ShesGotLegs and has aura that, if not shielded, make most of the people want to bone her ([[UnwantedHarem she's usually not very happy about it, though]]), so quite oftenly CoitusEnsues.

* ''Złodziej Dusz'' (''Soul Thief'') - Dora, still a police officer, must solve a political HotPotato case - old activist of very religious RealLife organization dies, apparently murdered, and old lady's so-called friends decide to use it for political purposes. Meanwhile, the Council, Thorn's ruling body, ask Dora to use her police experience to solve mystery of SerialKiller who killed or kidnapped dozen or so paranormal beings - the titular Soul Thief.\\
* ''Bogowie Muszą Być Szaleni'' (''Gods Must Be Crazy'') - Dora, Miron and Joshua move to their new house in Thorn and begins their career as private investigators when the repercussions of ''Soul Thief'' strikes and Trio must go to Triple Alliance to answer some uncomfortable questions. Also, Norse god Loki begins to mess up and his ArchEnemy [[CreepyGood Badb]] chooses Dora as her [[TheChampion champion]] to stop him. Also, ArchangelRaphael ''really'' dislikes Joshua and sends AxeCrazy she-killer and ex-witch to get rid of him. Also, ghosts of Dora's greatgrand...grandma shows up and is ''not happy''.\\
* ''Zwycięzca Bierze Wszystko'' (''Winner Takes It All'') - conflict between Trio and Raphael reaches it's peak, as well as Hell's internal disagreements. TheGrimReaper shows up, as well as [[CainAndAbelAndSeth a missing character]], ex-lover and lots of kids. FantasticRacism ensues.

* RagtagBunchOfMisfits: The cops named "Animal Kingdom", consisting of witch with psychopathic tendencies (Dora), perpetually-depressed junkie (Witkacy), an alpha male (Hare, currently in psychiatric hospital), bearish drunk (Nowakowski) and two new guys nobody else wanted. They stay in service because they're really good at what they're doing, but stay on the same team because nobody else would take them.

* ShoutOut: books has a lot of references to modern pop culture picture of werewolves and vampires, as well as ''Twilight'' (look below), ''Interview With a Vampire'' and its movie adaptation and various metal music (Trio loves it). Hell is divided into nine circles, as in Dante's work (but frankly, after Dante's ''Inferno'' every Hell has circles), different biblical characters show up and Gabriel's Annunciation is referred to more than once.

* TheEmpath: seems to be standard feature of angels. [[spoiler: Trio gains it after they form a mental bond, although it works only between them]]

* ActionHero: Miron, since he's two-meters high devil [[spoiler: with fire powers]].

* ArchangelRaphael: Healer of the Archangel Council and opposer of any peace between Hell and Heaven. {{Jerkass}} and xenophobe.
* ArchangelUriel: also member of Archangel Council, he's their telepath, interrogating suspects during Court sessions.

** BadassLongcoat: Miron's outfit for every occasion is his long, black coat.

* EvilIsPetty: Raphael really know how to hold a grudge, and Jezebel isn't much better, either.

* FantasticRacism: important plot point and one of the themes of the series. It is said that a lot of angels dislike magicals and vice-versa. Half-blood, such as angel-devil hybrids (like Leon) or angel-magical creature hybrids (like Nathaniel) are not well seen - attitudes varies from "it's a bit unnatural" to "''this thing'' must die". Magicals and Judeo-Christianics have a long history of violence and as they're long living, some of them still remember Inquisition and witch burning. Members of Hell, Heaven and magical community has separate districts, restaurants and clubs and it's unlikely to see magical in Hell's bar or angel in magicals' club. Although leaders of all three groups try to calm down the moods, conflict boils under the surface. In those circumstances, friendship between Dora, Miron and Joshua is considered something unusual, to say the least.

* {{Hell}}: not a bad place if you are friends with boss' grandson. It has a lovely old town, too, with gas lamps and old-timey cabs. However, it's not so much fun in regions like Samael's domain or old Heaven vs Hell battle sites (blood never sunk into the ground). And generally being a client isn't nice, too.

* HemoErotic: seems to be general vampire fetish, since they enjoy sex and blood drinking in the same way. Partially werewolves' fetish too, since ability to turn into giant beast with fangs and tusks open way of possibilities for BDSM-ers.

* MrFanservice: Miron. Big, sexy, well-built, beautiful, HotAsHell. Quite often shows up with [[ShirtlessScene naked chest]] and at home (which he shares with Dora and Joshua) he's often trousersless, too.
** Joshua also qualifies as MrFanservice, since he looks like "that guy from garage band that every fangirl wants".

* OncePerEpisode: at the beginning of every book Dora gains one magical runic tattoo that aids her during the story. Tattoo is "taken back" by magic at the end of every book. Also, it seems like every book Trio gains more allies and powers.
* OurAngelsAreDifferent: angels in Dora Wilk's world are long-living beings with empathic powers, DetectEvil skill and mental bonds between close family members (although it seems it's rather how close are they with each other than how much DNA they have in common). They are much stronger and more resistant than normal humans and look a lot better than them. If a person considers an angel his/her guardian and believes in this very strongly, that angel becomes said person's Guardian armed with ability to sense guarded person's psychical state and position no matter in which world or place they are. There are different kinds of angels (let's not dwell into that...) and only some of them have wingd. More powerful ones are equipped with extra powers or skills, as well as ability to enter Glory State, in which they are super-powerful, super-resistant, [[PowerGlows shine]] with [[HolyHandGrenade holy light]] and banish all unholy with their mere existence. As it's God who grants them powers, they aren't regular and even vanilla angel can have Glory State or wings, [[spoiler:as Joshua's example shows]].

* OurMonstersAreDifferent: most of the paramormal creatures - magicals - comes from Slavic mythology, so we're treated with [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strzyga strigas]], szyszymoras[[note]]read it: shi-shi-mor-ah[[/note]], [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rusalka rusalkas]] and other creatures that didn't look like humans at all in original legends. Here, however, they can all pass for humans easily, even if some must hide little details like pointy ears or extra gills. They can interbreed and chidren inherit part of of the genes from both sides.
* OurVampiresAreDifferent: they're immortal, although not invincible, and stay in the same age they were transformed in. They have mental powers and can use them against any other sentient being. Vampire can create new vampires, but he/she has mental bond with his/her spawns and is obliged to treat them like children. They can also create human servants, renfelds, who are granted very long lifespan, but must obey every wish of their master. Most powerful vampires (well-fed and posessing many spawns, it is) can walk in daylight, which they do mostly [[ForTheLulz to show off]]. They are organized into pseudo-feudal dependancy system, with regional Master on the top and mere loyal subordinates or local landlords at the bottom. Transforming someone into vampire without one's landlord's knowledge is considered a serious gaffe, if not crime, and disobedience is punished with death. As AuthorityEqualsAsskicking, vampire can get a higher position by the means of KlingonPromotion, although whether they do it by official duel or coup depends on the situation. Oh, and most of them can control mortal minds to some extent.
* OurWerewolvesAreDifferent: they can shapeshift every time they want, although younger ones must do it by full moon, too. They're mostly criminals, since they have many animal and predator instincts that don't cope with social rules, and favors BDSM. Men holds higher position than women. Werewolves are organised into packs, with their territory (a city or geographical region in wilder parts of the world). They are ruled by alpha male, aided by his [[Lancer second-in-command]], beta. Notable pack members include also omega, who acts as a negotiator, and lupa, the leading female of the pack. One's rank in the pack depends on one's strength (Jadowska seems to really love AuthorityEqualsAsskicking trope), yet every werewolf (even from outside the pack) can challenge alpha for his position. Such conflicts are solved in official duels and usually end with loser's death. New alpha usually puts his men in beta, omega and lupa's place.

* PetTheDog: Gabriel gets his moment in ''Gods Must Be Crazy''. Up until then he's been shown as self-centered old man who's all about politics and willing to sacrifice his own grandson and closest relative for the sake of his own political gain. Then, when Joshua [[spoiler:is sick and overpowered with fever]] Gabriel arrives in Trio's home, clearly worried and scared about angel's state. Up from then, we see more of him, and he isn't that bad after all.

* {{Pornomancer}}: Dora, as part fertility witch, needs sex in order to survive ([[spoiler: until the end of ''Soul Thief'']]). With her talents, she doesn't have problem with satisfying that need.

* RagtagBunchOfMisfits: So-called "Animal Kingdom" cops, consisting of witch with psychopathic tendencies (Dora), ever-depressed junkie (Witkacy), alpha male (Hare, currently in psychiatric hospital), bearish drunk (Nowakowski) and two new guys who nobody else wanted. * AccidentalPun: meta example with pyr. In-universe, pyr is powerful fire demon, but HilarityEnsues: as Polish gramatic rules go, she-pyr is "pyra"... which is also regional Polish name for potato.
* ActionGirl: Dora, of course, half blood Northern Witch (battle skills) and ex-policewoman with kickboxing training.

* ActionFashionista: Katia. While not kicking some undead asses, she cries over Dora's broken nails.

* ArchangelMichael: leader of Archangel Council (Heaven's ruling body), doesn't show up until the end of ''Gods Must Be Crazy''. As Gabriel and Lucipher, he's [[spoiler: connected with them by the same Triumvirate mental bond Trio forms later]]. Dora describe his appearance as [[UncannyValley "too perfect to seem human"]].

* {{Badass}}: In. Spares. All of the Trio fits this trope, as well as Council, vampires and werewolves.
** BadassGrandpa: Lucifer. During hellish uprising in ''Winner Takes It All'' he almost single-handedly stops rebellions' assault.

Frankly, Trio gets new powers and perks OncePerEpisode.

* BigGood: Judeo-Christianic God Almighty and magical world's Goddes (aka Mother Nature). They both care about the world and its every single inhabitant and are willing to help as much as they can. More "close to Earth" (sarcasm intended) are Archangels Michael and Uriel - even if they can't stop some things because of ancient laws, they care about more than just themselves and promise to get to the truth and serve justice if Trio won't be able to do so.

* CowboyCop: Dora has never been known for her rule-obeying. That's true for all the [[RagtagBunchOfMisfits "Animal Kingdom"]] cops.
* CoversAlwaysLie: Averted in second edition of the series - covers shows Dora in different badass positions, although model seems to change every book. However, the first edition of ''Soul Thief'' committed that sin: cover shown all the Trio and even if they got Miron and Joshua *almost* right, Dora had different hair color and complexion. But the worst was description in the back that suggested ''Soul Thief'' is yet another paranormal romance (and had multiple [[IncrediblyLamePun lame puns]]). It probably scared off a lot of readers.
* DarkActionGirl: Nikita. AntiHero or AntiVillain, depends on who you ask. She belongs to some secret international assassins society.

* DressingAsTheEnemy: played with. In book 2 Trio is invited for carnival party by Triple Alliance vampires. As they expect vampires to interrogate and probably imprison them, they come in armed, but as vampire carnival party rule is "dress as non-vampire", Trio - all non-vampire - decides to dress as vampires from famous movies.

* InsistentTerminology: Dora is a ''witch'' [[note]]Actually untranslatable play of words, as Polish ''wiedźma'' and ''czarownica'' are synonymous in English (Dora is the former)[/note]

** Baal, especially in ''Winner Takes It All''. We witness the scene when Dora has a vision of the future events and it begins with scene of Baal boning some cute girl. As Dora [[GuiltyPleasures can't get her eyes off them]] we get quite a detailed description.
* MsFanservice: Dora. Before she moved in with Miron and Joshua, she used to walk at home naked, and author describes her rather thoroughly.

* NotHimself: Once played with, once played straight. Archangels were a bit surprised when [[spoiler:Raphael]] started to hate half-bloods and magicals, but as it begun during Inquisition times, [[GenreBlind they thought it's natural]] since he was alway antisocial person and didn't really love non-angels. Turns out [[spoiler:he was possessed all along]]. Played straight when Dora finds out that [[spoiler: Raphael, hater of all non-angelic, has illegitimate and half-blood son]]. It's serious OOC for him.
