In series, our vanilla world exists alongside the magical one, accessible by a few gates. In this world, cities and places matches cities and places in ours (Thorn for Toruń, Triple Alliance for Three-City) and locals have [[MagiTek electricity and phones]]. Said "locals" are magical creatures such as vampires, werewolves, strigas, wraiths, ghosts, succubus, witches, magicians, shapeshifters, loads and loads of Slavic mythology beasts [[AllMythsAreTrue and more]]. Alongside ''this'' world exists Hell and Heaven, which currently are at peace with each other. Because of FantasticRacism, Judeo-Christian world and magical world didn't really do along for centuries (you know, witch burning, Inquisition, sacrificing priests and such), so few centuries ago both sides signed a Treaty to ensure peace. The series is place in modern times and partially deals with consequences of Treaty and FantasticRacism, but a lot of HilarityEnsues, too.\\

Vampire can create new vampires, but he/she has mental bond with his/her spawns and is obliged to treat them like children. They can also create human servants, renfelds, who are granted very long lifespan, but must obey every wish of their master. Most powerful vampires (well-fed and posessing many spawns, it is) can walk in daylight, which they do mostly [[ForTheLulz to show off]]. They are organized into pseudo-feudal dependancy system, with regional Duke on the top and mere loyal subordinates or local landlords at the bottom. Transforming someone into vampire without one's landlord's knowledge is considered a serious gaffe, if not crime, and disobedience is punished with death. As AuthorityEqualsAsskicking, vampire can get a higher position by the means of KlingonPromotion, although whether they do it by official duel or coup depends on the situation. Oh, and most of them can control mortal mindes to some extent.

several spin-offs (probably also as series of books) with some Dora's sidekicks as main characters.

Besides books, Jadowska wrote some short stories about both Dora (narrated by her) and other characters (written in third person). They can be found on [[http://anetajadowska.fan-dom.pl/czytelnia/ author's website]].

* Fanservice: a ''lot''. Every sex or kiss scene is quite detailed, most of the characters look young and sexy (and what would you, dear Tropers, do if you could work on your body for thousands of years?) and their descriptions are generally SceneryPorn. Female characters were either leather, translucent costumes, skin-tight costumes or AbsoluteClevege.

* HemoErotica: seems to be general vampire fetish, since they enjoy sex and blood drinking in the same way. Partially werewolves' fetish too, since ability to turn into giant beast with fangs and tusks open way of possibilities for BDSM-ers.

* MrFanservice: Miron. Big, sexy, well-built, beautiful, HotAsHell. Quite often shows up with [[ShirtlessScene naked chest]] and at home (and he shares home with Dora and Joshua) he walks without trousers, too.
* MsFanservice: Dora. Before she moved in with Miron and Joshua, she used to walk at home naked, and author describes her rather thoroughly.
** Joshua also qualifies as MrFanservice, since he looks like "that guy from garage band that every fangirl wants".

* OurDemonsAreDifferent: they were residents of Hell even before Fall, yet are subjects of Fallen Angels, the devils. They aren't anyhow bound to obey them - no more than any middle-age folk is forced to obey their king, although punishment for disobedience is way more severe[[note]]This varies, though. Even if Leon has no magical bonds that orders him to fulfill Lucifer's wishes, Baal's subjects must do what he says[[/note]]. They look human-like, but have small horns, bristles instead of hair and [[TechnicolorEyes red-colored eyes]]. There's also untranslatable difference between demons - polish ''cz'''a'''rty'' are folks described above, while ''cz'''o'''rty'' are demon-nondemon hybrids.
* OurVampiresAreDifferent: they're immortal, although not invincible, and stay in the same age they were transformed in. They have mental powers and can use them against any other sentient being.

Oh, and most of them can control mortal mindes to some extent.

to:

\n\n\n\n* [[spoiler:PlayingWithFire: due to events of ''Gods Must Be Crazy'' Miron becomes a "pyr", devil capable of creating controlling fire (although "controlling" might be a bit of an overstatement).]]
* Pornomancer: Dora, as part fertility witch, needs sex in order to survive ([[spoiler: until the end of ''Soul Thief''). With her talents, she doesn't have problem with satisfying that need.
* SmellsSexy: Dora for werewolves and vampires. And considering their manners, she really pities it and spend a lot of time to cover it.
* VampiresAreSexGods: and even hearing the word "blood" out loud turns them on.

* OurWerewolvesAreDifferent: they can shapeshift every time they want, although younger ones must do it by full moon, too. They're mostly criminals, since they have many animal and predator instincts that don't cope with social rules, and favors BDSM. Men holds higher position than women. Werewolves are organised into packs, with their territory (a city or geographical region in wilder parts of the world). They are ruled by alpha male, aided by his [[Lancer second-in-command]], beta. Notable pack members include also omega, who acts as a negotiator, and lupa, the leading female of the pack. One's rank in the pack depends on one's strength (Jadowska seems to really love AuthorityEqualsAsskicking trope), yet every werewolf (even from outside the pack) can challenge alpha for his position. Such conflicts are solved in official duels and usually end with loser's death. New alfa usually puts his men in beta, omega and lupa's place.

* OurAngelsAreDiffrent: angels in Dora Wilk's world are long-living beings with empathic powers, DetectEvil skill and mental bonds between close family members (although it seems it's rather how close are they with each other than how much DNA they have in common). They are much stronger and more resistant than normal humans and look a lot better than them. If a person considers an angel his/her guardian and believes in this very strongly, that angel becomes said person's Guardian armed with ability to sense guarded person's psychical state and position no matter in which world or place they are. ** BadassGrandpa: Lucifer. During hellish uprising in ''Winner Takes It All'' he almost single-h

single-handedly stops rebellions' assault.
->'''Leon:''' I've never seen anything like this. He was fighting like the angel of death, all bathed in blood... and he stopped them!
***Invoked with archangels, although we haven't seen Gabriel or Michael in action yet.
**BadassNormal: Dora's boss in the police. She's capable of keeping in check [[RagtagBunchOfMisfits ragtag bunch of cops]] dubbed "Animal Kingdom" by they coworkers and kicks their asses when necessary. And she ''has results''.
**GotALevelInBadass: during three books Dora transformed from regular half-blood northern witch to [[spoiler:quasi-vampire landlady, leader of a werewolf pack, uber-powerful multi-skilled witch with mental bond with angel and demon]], Miron changed from [[WanderingSon freelancer]] devil who happens to be boss' grandson into [[spoiler: fire-breathing pyr with the same mental bond]] and Joshua went from ShrinkingViolet wingless angel to [[badass GuardianAngel with wings and CoolSword (although the last one was borrowed from ArchangelMichael and was given back later)]]. Frankly, Trio gets new powers and perks OncePerBook.
**BadassUnintentional: Trio didn't really plan to get so many levels in Badass.
*BewareTheNiceOnes: Joshua, ShrinkingViolet with ass-kicking skills.
*Bishoonen: Joshua, boyish angel with long, blonde hair.
*CowboyCop: Dora has never been known for her rule-obeying. That's true for all the "Animal Kingdom" cops.
*DarkActionGirl: Dora's ex. AntiHero or AntiVillain, depends on who you ask. She belongs to some secret international assassins society.
*FantasticRacism: important plot point and one of the themes of the series. It is said that a lot of angels dislike magicals and vice-versa. Half-blood, such as angel-devil hybrids (like Leon) or angel-magical creature hybrids (like Nathaniel) are not well seen - attitudes varies from "it's a bit unnatural" to "''this thing'' must die". Magicals and Judeo-Christianics have a long history of violence and as they're long living, some of them still remember Inquisition and witch burning. Members of Hell, Heaven and magical community has separate districts, restaurants and clubs and it's unlikely to see magical in Hell's bar or angel in magicals' club. Although leaders of all three groups try to calm down the moods, conflict boils under the surface. In those circumstances, friendship between Dora, Miron and Joshua is considered something unusual, to say the least.
*GoodIsNotSoft: Lucipher. Miron. Baal. Leon. Generally most of hellians aren't bad guys, but aren't very compassionate, either.
*{{Hell}}: not a bad place if you are friends with boss' grandson. It has a lovely old town, too, with gas lamps and old-timey cabs. However, it's not so much fun in regions like Samael's domain or old Heaven vs Hell battle sites (blood never sunk into the ground). And generally being a client isn't nice, too.
*{{Heaven}}: angels' domain, it's not necessarily good place. It's full of politics, though, and [[FantasticRacism fantastic racists]].
*LandOfTheDead: Hell and Heaven, of course, but Slovanian-mythology creatures has their Land Of The Dead, too.
