* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: The reason Seshethkunaaz, the ruthless King of Gold Dragons, takes the form of a twelve year old child. When he was very young, he was exiled by other dragons and left to die in the wasteland, but rescued by a family of humans. He was raised alongside their human son, formed a contract with the boy, and changed his shape so that the two of them looked like twins. His human brother was an Underlord and one day accidentally killed another child in a fight. Unlike most of the [[MightMakesRight nations of Cradle]], the law of the nation they lived in prohibited any murder, regardless of rank, and Sesh's brother was executed.
--> To this day, the King of Dragons walks the desert in the form of a human boy, hair dark and skin tanned by the sun, wrapped in a cloak against the harsh wind. He admires humans, but [[FreudianExcuse hates human civilization, that collection of unnatural rules under which the weak are favored above the strong]]. If power and survival were the only laws, he believes all would benefit. Even humans.

* AnAesop: There are a few implied morals about helping others, not abandoning your friends, and so on. But the most explicit Aesop is explained in the last book: Everyone needs help, and that's okay; just ''don't forget who helped you''.
-->'''Lindon:''' There's nothing noble about doing everything yourself. You just have to do your best to honor the help you've gotten.

He is also TheSixthRanger, since he doesn't join the team until book 8, and is the [[InstantRunes scripting]] [[TechnoWizard genius]] to Lindon's [[GadgeteerGenius Soulsmith]].

** Sophara 'had' been curb-stomping everyone else in the Uncrowned King Tournament right up until her and Yerin's fight. Part way through, [[spoiler: Yerin advances to Herald, despite still being an Overlord. This is so unheard of that Northstrider and the other Monarchs seriously consider either disqualifying her or giving her the win outright. The Abidan Kiuran has them let her fight anyway, and the ensuing two fights are so one-sided that even Yerin is surprised they're letting her do it.]]

** At the end of some books, there are "Reports" generated explaining some current events Lindon may not be aware of, giving some insight on other characters, and documenting probably results of charater's actions. They are revealed to be Reports that Suriel's Presence is creating, giving her periodic updates about how Lindon is doing. Later on, [[spoiler: Lindon finds Dross, and his ability to generate Reports is the first clue that he's an Abidan style Presence]].

** Ozriel the Reaper is shown to taunt his fellow Judges, mocking them to the point where several of them would gladly have him executed if he weren't such an important tool for the Abidan. His entire ploy for vanishing was to get them to listen to his idea about saving worlds ''before'' they become corruupted so badly he had to destroy them, and after centuries of the Judges disregarding his ideas, he's taken on a fatalistic humor about the whole thing and openly mocks the entire system.
