** The anime's character designer, Kamimura Sachiko, has done a series of BL illustrations featuring basically expies of Daryun and Arslan. She denied any connection but it was pretty much a case of "well, just because one of them looks exactly like Daryun and wears exactly the same outfit, and the other looks exactly like my version of adult Arslan, right down to the clothes, jewelry and weapon, doesn't mean it's ''them''!"

* Rajendra has said a few times that he likes Arslan, calling him a brother at heart, he uses the term "daisuki" when referring to the "like."
** "Daisuki" is of greater romantic connotation than "suki," (which would be used when describing the like one would have to a friend or family) and Japanese couples will more often use "daisuki" when saying "I love you" to each other, as "aishiteru," the word that has the greatest romantic connotation of "like" is to only be said to the person you are going to be with for the rest of your life.

* Arslan/Daryun is heavily implied. It's like Alexander the Great & Hephaestion with roles reversed.

* Etoile was a girl in the source material, but in Hiromu Arakawa's manga adaptation and by extension the anime her gender has been swapped. Which means the bit at the beginning where Etoile and Arslan accidentally hold hands, complete with blushing? Yup, totally between two boys.
** Episode 20 reveals Etoile is a girl, taking away the HoYay from the scene above.

Etoile gender-preference in that phrase is headcanon and shouldn't be put here as if it was a fact. Her reason for acting like a boy and rejecting feminine traits is because of how her society discriminates against her birth gender. She still sees herself as a girl.

*** Unless you consider Etoile to be a transgender boy, as evidenced by his rejection of his birth name and expressed discomfort with being called a girl. In that case, the scene retains its HoYay factor.

** While I love you for mentioning Arslan, the trope is not ''implied'' as much as it's entirely unintentional. The author is famous for not liking HoYay - strange when one considers that he came up with [[LegendOfGalacticHeroes Reinhard and Kircheis]] as well.
